If you like a bit of CQB skirmishing you will know, size does matter. In this case, smaller is better! Introducing the M4A1 CQB RIS 5" by DBoys, straying from the usual DBoys script of realism above all to provide a more practical skirmish piece, whether it is a backup to a much bigger gun or as a primary for CQB.

Full description

Description

DBoys are well-known for providing excellent realism in AEGs at an enviable price point, but with this new M4A1 you get a slice of realism coated with skirmish practicality as well! The M4A1 RIS CQB is intended to bridge the gap between a GBB pistol and a full-sized AEG, providing a pocket-sized M4/AR15 platform that could be effectively used as a backup rifle for a sniper or support gunner, or as a primary for turning and burning at your local CQB site.

The M4A1 CQB RIS 5" is constructed primarily from polymer, with an alloy 20mm Picatinny quad railed handguard, suppressor and outer barrel. The metal bits being all up front balances this build really well with its metal internals, keeping the balance point between the magazine well and pistol grip, affording this AEG exceptional handling. At the tip of the alloy outer barrel we can find a threaded suppressor, which comes pre-installed to the barrels 14mm CCW male threads. This suppressor has CCW threads at one end, and CW threads at the other, so if you remove it make sure you reinstall it carefully, if it won't go on try it the other way around! If you ask us, this thing is begging for a tracer unit (especially if you're doing some CQB), and the 14mm CCW threaded barrel will allow the most common types to be added with no fuss.

The suppressor sits slightly recessed into the alloy 20mm Picatinny quad rail, providing an ultra-sleek "integrally suppressed" look, akin to the ever-popular AAC Honeybadger or MP5 SD. The quad rail provides attachment surfaces at the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions, providing plenty of room for foregrips, tactical flashlights, and PEQ laser units should the mission require it. The handguard meets the receiver in a monolithic fashion, with no interruptions between each rail surface, allowing optical sights of practically any size to be mounted, including holographic sight and magnifier combinations. This rail surfaces comes with flip up iron sights pre-installed, which can be deployed by pressing the textured button on top of both the front and rear sights. The front sight includes protective wings to prevent the delicate sight blade from damage in the event of a drop, and the rear sight features a choice of two apertures that are adjustable for windage without the use of tools.

The receiver of the M4A1 RIS CQB is exactly what we would expect for an M4/AR15 AEG, and sports all the familiar and comfortable controls found on any M4 rifle. The fire selector can be found on the left side, and sits beneath the shooter's thumb for fast access, with a 90-degree throw between fire modes. The charging handle is present at the top rear of the upper receiver and provides access to the rotary HOP-up chamber when held to the rear. The HOP-up chamber can be found inside the ejection port on the right side, and allows adjustable backspin to be applied to your BB for extended range, consistency and resistance to wind. The dial within the ejection port can be rotated and set to provide a flat trajectory with your chosen BB weight and can be adjusted on the fly if needed. The rotary HOP design is widely regarded as one of the better unit designs on the market, and holds its setting very well, even under the vibration of firing. To the rear of the ejection port we can find a mock brass defector and mock forward assist button. These parts do nothing on an AEG M4, but they do certainly look the part, and without them, it just wouldn't be an M4! Over on the left side, we have another dummy control, the bolt release catch. A thoughtful inclusion for realism, the bolt catch is a separate piece made from metal and can be pressed for extra operator points after a flawless reload.

Moving down to the lower receiver, we can find the magazine catch, which protrudes on the right side beneath the ejection port and can easily be reached by the shooter's finger. This magazine catch is one of the best features of the M4/AR15 design, and allows a fast release and easy access whilst remaining protected from accidental bumps by the mag release "fence", moulded into the receiver itself. The pistol grip on this AEG is an "A2" finger ridged type, with checkering on the side and rear faces, providing ample grip whilst still remaining comfortable when handling without gloves.

At the rear end of the AEG we can find a standard M4/AR15 6 position buffer tube, constructed from polymer to keep the build manoeuvrable and well balanced. This buffer tube is compatible with any M4/AR15 AEG stock but comes with a Crane battery stock with QD sling sockets pre-installed. On a 6 position tube, you have 6 options as far as the stock length is concerned, allowing any body type to use this AEG comfortably. The stock also features conventional sling slots and can be set up with a two-point rifle sling if a 20mm sling point is installed on the handguard. The battery compartment for the M4A1 RIS CQB 5" can be found within the stock, and can be accessed by squeezing the two tabs at the toe of the stock together, after which the rubber butt plate can be removed. For this type of stock, we recommend a 7.4V 1300 mAh LiPo battery.

So, whether you are in the market for a lightweight backup for your heavyweight primary, or you just want something ideally suited to the "shoot and scoot" environment of the modern Airsoft CQB arena, the DBoys M4A1 RIS CQB 5" will serve you well!

Special Instructions

These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.

FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.

Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.

Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.

Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
