Description
Evolution Airsoft is now fully established in the game of producing modern, advanced AEGs to cater to the modern Airsofter, and has become well known for providing enviable function in an attractive and uniquely designed exterior. Enter the Evolution Airsoft GBB pistol range, sporting unique Evolution Airsoft designs inspired by proven internal systems with an excellent hard-wearing finish, known as the Duralite™ finish applied to their metal components.
Starting at the front end, we can see 11mm CW female threads inside the alloy outer barrel tip, meaning with the addition of a thread adapter a tracer unit or suppressor can be added for the CQB, or the more sneaky type of player. Both the outer barrel and the slide of the E017 are CNC machined from aluminium alloy and finished with Evolution Airsoft's own Duralite™ coating, guaranteeing a long-lasting look with a decent level of scratch resistance, preventing the typical wear which occurs on pistols with alloy slides over time.
The front of the slide features angled serrations which cover both sides and the top, giving you a solid point of contact for cocking the pistol and manipulating the slide. These serrations contribute massively to the aggressive look of the E017, and give it a discrete yet custom style. All the corners of the E017's slide have been reprofiled with an angled bevel, adding to the look and allowing the pistol to be more easily holstered. The rear of the slide features standard EU style linear serrations, meaning if you choose to manipulate your pistol in a more traditional style you will have plenty of grip to do so!
At the top of the slide, we can find the high-vis green dot iron sights which are quick to align and easy to find thanks to the high visibility sight dots. These sights are non-adjustable, lying right in line with what we would expect from a combat optimised design. With adjustable sights comes the possibility of knocking or scraping your pistol against something and ruining the sight alignment and zero, the E017 leaves nothing to chance in this area, and can take the odd bump and still shoot straight as an arrow. On the right side of the slide, we can find the mock ejection port, through which we can see the chamber area of the outer barrel. To the rear of the ejection port, we are treated to a realistic mock extractor which appears to be a separate piece, rather than moulded into the slide as in some GBB pistols. This is a lovely touch for realism and makes handling the E017 that bit more immersive.
Moving on to the frame, we can find a 20mm Picatinny frame rail which allows tactical flashlights and lasers to be mounted should it suit the mission. On the lower surface of this rail we can find a silver aluminium plate, which can be pushed rearwards to lock the trigger for storage and transportation. On a real EU handgun, this part is the serial number plate as many countries require the serial number to be engraved in metal. On the E017, this part is not serialised and is instead marked with the function of the safety, with an engraved "F->" at the front, and "<-S" at the rear, indicating the direction of each of the safeties functions.
Moving rearwards we come to the trigger guard, which is an enlarged design perfect for gloved use, and has a curved front face to allow for modern shooting holds and stances, such as the "European grip". The pistol grip is patterned after the generation 3 EU pistol, and has comfortable finger grooves punctuated by squared texture on the front, with squared texture on the rear and crackle texture on either side to provide a comfortable and dependable grip. Either side of the grip includes a comfortable thumb indentation, marking out the correct place to position your thumb for a perfect grip, and adding to the comfortable feel of the E017.
At the bottom of the grip, we can find the magazine well extension, which provides a useful flare to help guide the magazine into the mag well during a reload. This not only helps you reload more quickly, but also helps you to reload without looking at the pistol, and slap the magazine home properly even with hands shaking from adrenaline and exhaustion. Magazine well flares are generally found on competition-oriented pistols but have been making their way into more and more combat pistols in a more discrete and low profile form, as the advantage this part gives is too good to miss out on.
The controls of the E017 follow the standard EU-series format, with the magazine release found on the left side of the grip, and the slide release just above between the frame and slide. Both of these parts include linear texture to ensure you have no trouble using these controls in wet weather. The trigger of the E017 is a standard EU-series dual stage trigger, with a central section which needs to be pressed in order for the pistol to be fired. This is a superb safety system, and practically makes a manual safety unnecessary, as the trigger cannot be inadvertently pulled if snagged on equipment or accidentally touched. This safety system makes the E017 one of the fastest pistols to draw from a holster and shoot, as the lack of a manual safety simplifies the draw process, giving you one less thing to do under pressure!
The gear adjustable HOP-up unit of the E017 can be found inside the slide and is accessible when the slide is removed for a field stip. This can be done by first removing the magazine, racking the slide then pulling down on the two textured tabs above the trigger guard on either side of the frame. With these tabs pulled down, the slide of the E017 will come off towards the front of the pistol. The HOP-up adjuster can be found on the bottom of the outer barrel and allows the user to adjust the backspin applied to their BBs for the best performance with different ammunition weights.
Speaking of performance, the E017 is no slouch in this department. When fired, the E017 has a very loud muzzle report, and a spritely slide action giving it exceptional rapid-fire performance and making it an asset in CQB. This impressive performance is underlined by the extra attention paid by Evolution Airsoft to the pistol's trigger, which is crisp and comfortable to shoot with, with an audible and tactile reset which, with practice, can allow a shooter to fire faster follow up shots without releasing the trigger all the way.
So, for those who want the impressive functionality of the EU series of pistols, but cannot stand the blocky and downright bland looks, this one is made with you in mind! The styled up slide, magazine well extension and high-vis sights give the E017 the look of a standard EU pistol that has been through a custom shop and has been enhanced to the exacting specs of its owner. This custom look comes with the wealth of aftermarket components available to the EU series of pistols, meaning if you ever get tired of the look you have all the options when it comes to customising the E017.

These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
