Platform Details
Starting at the tip of the 12.4-inch outer barrel, we can find a meaty sound amp-style muzzle device inspired by the Noveske KFH linear compensator, mounted to the 14mm CCW male threads. This muzzle device looks fantastic at the tip of this menacing, modernised AK, but if a tracer or suppressor is required, you can switch it out thanks to the common 14mm CCW threading.
As with many AKs, removing the muzzle device requires that you hold the detent pin in the front sight inward while unscrewing the pre-installed muzzle device. The sound amp mounts to a 24mm CW thread adapter, which in turn mounts to the steel barrel's 14mm CCW threads, giving you the option to run Russian-style 24mm CW suppressors or conventional 14mm CCW examples.
In classic AK-105 style, the combination front sight/gas block follows immediately after the muzzle device, made from steel to provide heft and the appropriate balance for a realistic feel. The front sight is a perfect match for the real AK-105, even down to its authentic gloss black finish.
Next up, we reach the handguard, which is inspired by the real steel SureShot MK3 M-LOK rail, with a slightly slimmer profile. It is constructed from CNC aluminium, boasting high durability and a premium finish. M-LOK slots are present at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions, along with additional offset slots which are slightly recessed. On the top, we're also treated to a 20mm Picatinny rail, allowing for modern attachments like flashlights or lasers.
On the left side, the handguard features a port which allows a steel sling point affixed to the outer barrel to poke through, ready for conventional sling hardware like HK hooks. If you prefer a QD sling, you can add an M-ETAL QD Sling Point for M-LOK to the handguard and use QD sling swivels to mount a sling.
The upper handguard leads back to the receiver, offering a short length of 20mm Picatinny rail positioned just behind the rear tangent iron sight. This rail section is in the perfect spot to mount a red dot sight while keeping it as close to the bore as possible to minimise bore-offset.
Following the gas tube, we come to the trunnion block, the majority of which is concealed beneath the extended upper rail of the Sureshot-style handguard. The trunnion block is made from milled steel, with the iconic AK tangent rear sight mounted to the top. To adjust the sight, press the button on the right side of the adjustment drum and slide it back and forth.
Moving rearwards, we come to the receiver, made from stamped steel with realistic Izhmash Arsenal markings throughout. On the left side, we can see "AK105" in prominent stampings, with the real steel calibre "5,45x39" stamped just below. A unique serial number is engraved on the trunnion block just above, with the arrow inside a triangle style Izhmash marking alongside. In terms of markings, this is probably the best Russian-style AK on the market.
The receiver also features realistic rivets and pins in all the right places, as well as the Russian AK-style side rail mount on the left side. The side rail allows for AK-type Russian optics to be mounted, but if you prefer a Western sight, you can make use of the extended upper rail of the Sureshot-style handguard.
The charging handle is of a classic AK format and is machined as part of the steel bolt carrier. The bolt carrier and charging handle are authentically coloured black, matching the real AK-74 bolt carrier perfectly. Rack it back to load the first BB and get a taste of that full-travel-bolt goodness, the closest thing you'll get in Airsoft to the real steel AK experience.
The adjustable HOP-up unit is inside the ejection port, easily accessed with the charging handle held back. It makes use of the rotary adjuster design, a fantastic choice in terms of consistency. Compatibility-wise, this unit takes standard GBB/VSR type HOP-up buckings and inner barrels, giving you plenty of upgrade options.
The fire selector switch is on the right side, an extended design inspired by the real steel "X47" enhanced selector switch, dubbed the "QRS" extended selector by VFC. This selector design allows modes to be selected using the trigger finger, a big improvement over the standard AK selector. Compared to the X47, the ledge of the QRS switch extends rearward slightly further, giving those with smaller hands extra purchase.
The magazine release/trigger guard assembly is on the bottom of the receiver and is constructed from steel, just like a real AK. The mag release can be accessed from either side, making weak-side reloads easy and allowing for effective left-handed use. This assembly is authentically riveted onto the bottom of the receiver, a fantastic detail from a realism standpoint.
On the bottom of the receiver, we can find the pistol grip, inspired by the real steel Tapco Intrafuse pistol grip, which itself is styled after the M249 SAW grip. This grip design is commonly seen on tactical AKs, and is a significant improvement over the standard AK grip, which clearly wasn't designed with ergonomics in mind.
At the rear of the receiver, we have a 6-position M4/AR-15 buffer tube affixed to the folding stock-type receiver via a CNC aluminium adapter. The buffer tube itself is made from aluminium with a steel castle nut. While the receiver is a "side-folder", the buffer tube mount is fixed and cannot be folded.
Mounted to the buffer tube, the AV105 is equipped with a top-notch replica of the B5 Systems BRAVO stock, complete with official licensing. This stock design is a slimline version of the iconic B5 SOPMOD stock favoured by US Special Forces, also known as the "Crane" stock in Airsoft.
QD Sling sockets are present on either side, ready for QD sling swivels. The butt plate is made from grippy rubber, enhancing traction for ease of use in wet weather operations. The adjustment lever is on the bottom, complete with dot texture to prevent slippage. All in all, this is the best replica of the BRAVO stock we've ever seen, and pairs perfectly with the modern aesthetic of the AV105 Tactical overall.
Internals
Inside, the VFC AV Series GBBRs are bristling with robust steel components, from the bolt carrier to the full trigger group, giving you bomb-proof internals which don't need upgrading. Incredible attention to detail has been paid in how the internal parts look, meaning if you know your way around a real steel AK, you'll be very impressed with the VFC build.
The HOP-up unit is a unique design, known as the EZ-HOP system by VFC. This is effectively an easy-access rotary HOP-up unit, providing a large adjustment dial inside the chamber which is easy to turn, even with gloved fingers. The HOP-up internals are standard GBB/VSR style, meaning aftermarket buckings and nubs are a go!
The highlight of the VFC AV series is its incredible gas efficiency, with one gas fill capable of cycling the action up to 200 times in warmer weather, something no other GBBR can match. Recoil is as hard as the shoulder-shattering WE AK GBBR, and the cyclic rate is far faster, closer to the GHK AK GBBR with its short-travel bolt. Long story short, we're very impressed with this beast!

Further Information
Special Instructions
This is a Gas Blowback Rifle. GBBRs require maintenance and careful handling, and we do not recommend them for new skirmishers. Things to watch out for if this is your first GBBR:
- The HOP-up adjuster for the VFC AV Series GBBR is inside the chamber, accessible with the charging handle held back.
- When the magazine runs dry, you will experience what is known as the "dead man's click". This is by design, intended to replace what happens when a real AK runs dry. To recommence shooting, refill your mag with BBs and you're ready to rock!
- GBBRs need to be cocked before the first shot, just like a GBB pistol. It is important that you do not double-load a GBBR, as this can break the nozzle. We recommend clearing the chamber of BBs with a cleaning rod in the event that you finish firing mid-magazine.
- GBBRs generally use higher-pressure gas than GBB pistols due to the extra weight of the bolt. We recommend Green Gas (NUPROL 2.0, VORSK V6, ASG Ultraair) for general use and Red Gas (NUPROL 3.0, VORSK V8) for cold weather use.
- The faster you shoot a GBBR, the less accurate it will be. This is due to pressure variance as the gas reservoir cools down. Full auto is basically for fun, and these rifles run far better when used in semi-auto mode.
- Like a GBB pistol, GBBR magazines require maintenance. We recommend leaving a small amount of gas inside the magazine when stored and not storing the magazines in a cold or damp environment. Magazine seals and valves will need lubrication and to be kept clear of dust and debris.
The VFC AV series magazine has the ability to be used in normal or "dry fire" modes. The "dry fire" mode will not activate the "stop firing on empty/dead man's click" function and will allow the GBBR to continue to cycle until the gas reservoir is depleted.
To activate "Dry Fire Mode":
- Hold the follower down
- With the follower held down, push the switch on the left side of the mock feed lips forward
To activate "Stop firing on empty/Dead man's click":
- Push the switch on the left side of the mock feed lips rearward.

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These tables can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable joule limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used at Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
