Looking for a lightweight yet functional M4 with a compact form for a run and gun play style? Fast movers on the skirmish field will love the CM.605 for its perfect balance of polymer and alloy parts, providing a robust and solid M4 platform with remarkably low weight and superb handling. The CM.605 is an M4 AEG in CQBR configuration, matching military M4s with shortened barrels for close-quarters work.

Full description

Description

The CM.605 is an M4 in close quarters battle configuration, equipped with a RAS II style quad rail system with a built-in rail riser. The CM.605 has a 10.5-inch outer barrel, making it a great all rounder Airsoft AEG for anyone with a run and gun play style who skirmishes at a mix of woodland and indoor CQB skirmish sites.

On the outside, the CM.605 is constructed with a polymer upper and lower receiver and an alloy outer barrel and buffer tube to provide strength where needed. This combination of low weight, scratch resistance and strength make the CM.605 a fine choice for the skirmisher who wants a rock solid beater of an AEG, or those looking for a forgiving entry-level AEG which doesn't compromise on performance.

At the tip of the 10.5-inch outer barrel, we can find a birdcage flash hider which gives the CM.605 realistic looks up front, matching well with the majority of M4 rifles issued to militaries and PMCs around the world. Beneath the flash hider we can find 14mm CCW male threads, meaning you can attach a tracer unit or suppressor if you want to lean into the sneaky look, or give your rifle the intimidation factor of a tracer unit for CQB or low light work.

Following the flash hider we come to the M4A1 style triangular front sight post, which houses the front sight and mock bayonet lug. The bayonet lug is compatible with Airsoft M16 bayonets but the short barrel length means one cannot be installed on the CM.605 as it comes from the factory. This is a shame for the more bloodthirsty Airsofters out there but is realistic for a short-barreled M4 wherein you are much better off shooting the enemy up close than going in for a melee kill. The front sight is adjustable for elevation using an M4/AR15 front sight adjustment tool, and for less precise work up close it can be used as an index point for rapid aiming when there is no time to align the sights.

The handguard of the CM.605 is a close reproduction of the KAC RAS II quad rail system, and provides 20mm Picatinny rails at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions and a rail riser on top which bridges the gap between the receiver and handguard. This rail riser is great for those who wear a full face mask when skirmishing, as it gives you a small amount of extra height on your optic to give you a more natural shooting position. The riser also functions to provide additional rigidity in the design and absolutely eliminates handguard rotational movement which may otherwise happen over time with the delta ring attachment method.

The plethora of available rail space on the front end of the CM.605 means you can add practically any accessories you need to complete your mission, including PEQ laser units, red dot and telescopic sights, vertical and angled foregrips and even an M203 grenade launcher! The modularity of the M4 platform is easily its best feature, and it is no surprise that it gained the nickname "Barbie for men" around the time the first RAS rail system became common. This modularity also extends to exchanging external parts, and with an M4/AR15 armourers wrench, you can change the entire front set of the CM.605 and make it look like practically any M4/AR15 variant out there.

Moving rearward we reach the receiver, which is a familiar M4/AR15 layout and is constructed from high density polymer with a matt black finish. The fire selector is located on the left side of the AEG, and sits directly above the pistol grip to provide fast and easy access. The fire selector has a 90-degree throw between modes, making it quick to operate but not too easy to accidentally knock it and end up in the wrong fire mode. Each fire mode is indicated with recessed markings reading SAFE-SEMI-AUTO.

At the centre of the left side of the receiver, we can find a dummy bolt release catch which doesn't have a function in an Airsoft AEG but is included to keep the externals looking realistic, and is a separate part to avoid the tell-tale signs that this is an Airsoft gun and not the real deal. Over on the right side of the receiver, we can see what is known as the forward assist button, located on the upper receiver behind the mock shell deflector. This button also has no function but serves to force the real M4/AR15 bolt carrier into battery if it fails to close due to dirt ingress. The button can be pressed and is a separate part, evidencing CYMA's attention to detail and emphasis on realism.

The magazine release is found on the magazine well on the right side of the AEG, and is ideally positioned to be pressed with the trigger finger from a firing grip for right-handed users. Left-handed users can use their support hand thumb to press the release, and this can be done quite fast with a little practice. The surface of the mag release is textured to provide the necessary gripping qualities, and is protected from accidental presses by the "magwell fence", a raised protrusion in the receiver which stops the mag release from catching on your gear as you move.

The adjustable HOP-up unit is located inside the mock ejection port of the CM.605, over on the right side of the upper receiver. This device allows you to adjust the amount of backspin applied to your BBs and tune the CM.605 for your ammo weight of choice, looking for the flattest possible trajectory. The gear style HOP-up adjuster can be accessed by holding the charging handle back, after which the dust cover will spring open and the mock bolt plate will retract. Rotating the gear at the front of the ejection port will adjust the HOP-up tension, and once your adjustment is complete you can release the charging handle and the mock bolt plate will move forward and protect the HOP-up adjuster from damage and dirt ingress.

The grip of the CM.605 is an "A2" style finger ridged grip with checkering on either side for extra grip, ensuring the rifle doesn't slip out of your hands during an energetic sprint in wet conditions. This grip is a comfortable size for most hand types and is effective with or without gloves. The trigger guard is a standard M4/AR15 flat type, but can be swapped for aftermarket M4/AR15 AEG trigger guards if you prefer a different look.

At the rear of the receiver, we can find an ambidextrous CQD sling plate, which is the same type issued with the MK.18 MOD.0 rifles the US Navy SEALs were rocking in the mid-2010s. This sling plate allows any hook style sling to be attached on either side of the weapon, allowing for both left and right-handed use. This sling plate can be used alone with a single-point sling, or together with the sling loop mounted on the front sight/gas block if you prefer a two or three-point sling.

Following the receiver, we reach the AR buffer tube, which is a common part for the vast majority of M4/AR15 AEGs on the market. This buffer tube is constructed from alloy and provides 6 positions of adjustment, enough to suit any body type or loadout. The buffer tube system allows you to swap your stock out for any aftermarket M4/AR15 stock simply and quickly, so if you get tired of the looks of the CM.605 in the future it is a simple job to change it up.

The stock provided on the CM.605 is a crane enhanced carbine style stock, which is a close copy of the stocks issued with the M4A1 as part of the SOPMOD block 1 upgrade. This stock has since become commonplace on Airsoft M4s due to its enhanced angled cheek piece providing space for a battery, but is generally a more comfortable alternative to the legacy Colt "LE" stock.

The stock can be adjusted by holding the adjustment lever down and pulling the stock out to the desired length. The adjustment lever is located on the bottom of the stock and has texture on its surface for effective wet weather use, and the butt plate is rubberised to allow for effective use with bulky tactical gear such as a plate carrier or body armour vest.

The battery compartment of the CM.605 is located within the crane enhanced carbine stock or inside the buffer tube itself, depending on your choice of battery configuration. The battery compartment can be accessed by lifting the stock adjustment lever, pulling it out as far as it will go, and then sliding the stock off the buffer tube to the rear. This will allow you to fit a buffer tube style stick battery, and there is room inside for up to a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo battery.

Alternatively, you can remove the butt plate by squeezing the two tabs at the toe of the stock together, after which you can lift the butt plate off, remove the battery plug, and make use of the stocks built-in battery compartment to house a nunchuck/crane style battery. For the CM.605, we recommend a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo stick battery or a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo crane/nunchuck battery but you can also make use of a 9.6V 1600mAh NiMH for extra capacity, though this will only fit in the stock battery compartment and will not fit in the buffer tube.

Whether you are looking for a rock solid base gun for an M4/AR15 project gun build, you need a lightweight and reliable backup AEG for when your arms get tired, or you are looking for your first taste of Airsoft action the CM.605 would be a fine choice and does everything an M4 AEG should do for a price which is too good to be true!
