If you are a fan of the SCAR platform but you prefer to play CQB the Cyber Gun SCAR-SC has your name on it! The SCAR-SC is the Subcompact variant of the original FN SCAR MK16 rifle which was designed to replace the M4A1 in special forces service. The SCAR-SC boasts a shorter front end than the original SCAR, and a super compact sliding PDW stock, making it a fantastic tool for clearing tight corners when things get up close and personal.

The SCAR-SC has a CNC machined Aluminium upper receiver and a polymer lower receiver with ambidextrous controls, just like the real thing. Inside we are treated to an Ares EFCS gearbox and a slim type motor, resulting in a snappy trigger response and granting the ability to program burst modes with the Ares EFCS programmer. If you want a SCAR that can keep up with M4 PDWs in CQB, this is the only one!

Full description

Description

The SCAR-SC is the latest member of the FN Herstal SCAR family; joining the MK16 SCAR-L, MK17 SCAR-H and the MK20 SCAR-SSR, amongst others. SCAR stands for Special Forces Capable Assault Rifle, named for the fact that the original MK16 SCAR was designed based on US Special forces requirements.

The SCAR-SC is intended for use in close quarters and as a PDW and is considerably smaller and easier to wield than the original which was a bit of a chonky boi. The -SC sees the SCAR shrunk down into a CQB optimised package, and while this AEG still has some heft due to its full metal construction, it is now short enough to cut corners and contend with ultra compact M4s, SMG-5s and AR-9s which are dominating CQB sites currently. If you like a hefty, realistic rifle that is short enough to handle in the cramped confines of a tight CQB site, the SCAR-SC will do the trick!

Starting at the tip of the 7.5inch alloy outer barrel we can find a lovely steel three-prong flash hider, matching the real steel muzzle device on the real SCAR-SC perfectly. This muzzle device looks fantastic on the SCAR-SC, but if you have other plans you can mount any 14mm CCW male thread compatible tracer, suppressor or muzzle device for an alternative look. The real SCAR-SC is available in .300 Blackout, the famously gucci suppressed calibre. If you ask us that's a great excuse to whack a suppressor on this bad boy!

Following on from the flash hider we come to the upper receiver and the detailed mock gas adjuster. The gas adjuster is located at the front of the receiver, just above the barrel, and matches the real SCAR-SC perfectly. The receiver is monolithic, being machined from an aluminium billet using CNC technology, just like a real SCAR receiver. The receiver profile is the same as the standard scar but is cut short at the front, keeping the SCAR's good looks in this new, compact format.

The receiver itself is kitted out with rails in all the spots you will need them, with two polymer 20mm Picatinny side rails, one on either side, a longer alloy bottom rail, and the top rail, which runs all the way back to the rear of the rifle. Despite its short overall length, the SCAR-SC has plenty of rail real estate, with a full 35cm of uninterrupted 20mm Picatinny rail along the top; perfect for longer optical sight setups, or full special forces style red dot magnifier combos, with room left over for PEQ box should it suit the mission.

Just above the side rails, we come to our first sling point which is present on either side and ideal for “hook” type slings. When paired with any of the rear sling points, these can be used to set up a two-point sling on either side of the rifle which is one of the things that make the SCAR platform perfect for left-handed shooters.

Aft of the sling point on the left side you will find the charging handle, which looks like it has been bent downwards when compared to earlier SCARs. This is all part of the design of the SCAR-SC, and the charging handle was made this way to allow for faster access and keep it out of the way of optical sights mounted on the top rail. It may look like something went wrong at the factory, but the steel construction of the charging handle guarantees that this charging handle won’t get bent or broken during normal use. Pulling the charging handle rearwards will lock the mock bolt back, providing access to the rotary HOP-up unit, which will present itself in the ejection port on the right side of the rifle.

The HOP-up unit of the SCAR-SC is a proprietary design, but fortunately, it is compatible with aftermarket AEG inner barrels and HOP-up rubbers for those who like to upgrade. Being a rotary unit is good news, and means the SCAR-SC will hold its HOP-up setting well and allows for finer increments of adjustment to get the best possible trajectory when compared to older “gear” style HOP-ups.

The SCAR-SC lower receiver is designed to be familiar to M4/AR15 users, but was not hamstrung by the need to match AR controls perfectly, and as such FN has made some slight improvements which make SCARs of any stripe a joy to handle. The magazine release is now ambidextrous, and has a far bigger button with dot texturing which is easy to access in any weather conditions, and protected from accidental mag drops by moulded in protrusions in the lower receiver itself.

The fire selector is positioned just above the pistol grip, just like an M4/AR15, but it is now present on either side and is a redesigned selector with a wide paddle section and a super short 45-degree throw between fire modes. Having such a short throw between modes means the SCAR is a very fast rifle to manipulate and requires far less movement to switch from safe to semi, or semi to full auto. Being ambidextrous means even lefties can handle the SCAR intuitively and instinctively, and the more prominent selector design makes for easy actuation even when wearing gloves.

The SCAR-SC pistol grip is patterned after the real steel M16A1 grip, which is the same grip provided on the real FN Herstal SCAR-SC. Many people prefer an A1 grip to the A2/M4A1 grip as it lacks the finger ridge, making it more comfortable for a wider variety of hand types. This A1 grip is an Ares Slim Grip, meaning it is far closer to the dimensions of the real thing and as a result, it feels fantastic in the hand. Use of a slim grip isn't normally possible with an AEG due to the size of Airsoft motors, but the SCAR-SC uses an Ares slim motor, meaning they can give you a bit more realism when it comes to handling.

Both prominently displayed and discretely hidden around the SCAR-SC we have real steel accurate FN Herstal trademarks which match the real thing perfectly. The left side of the receiver features a laser etched FNH roundel logo, and at the rear left we can see the manufacturer and calibre markings, reading "FN HERSTAL BELGUIM" with "FN SCAR-SC MULTI-CALIBER" just below. Your unique serial number is found following these markings, which is great for theft prevention and is a nice personal touch.

As we arrive at the rear of the SCAR-SC we come to the stock setup, which is unique, to say the least! Machined as a part of the stock base we have a pair of sling points on the right side, and a single sling point on the left. The right side sling points both have steel inserts to increase strength, and the lower of the two points is ideal for those who prefer a single-point bungee sling. The stock is a PDW style sliding stock, similar to the MP5 sliding stock and has a super grippy rubberised butt plate with an FNH logo roundel moulded in. The stock bars are constructed from alloy and the cheekpiece is the same high density polymer as the lower receiver.

The stock can be extended by pushing the gunmetal grey lever from the right to the left, which is easily done with the thumb from a firing grip thanks to the lever's surface checkering. The stock offers 3 positions of adjustment, allowing you to adjust the stock to suit your environment, using it fully extended when there is space, and collapsing it down for exchanging fire at kissing distance. The stock's butt plate is very small compared to most but is super grippy thanks to its deep gripping texture. This stock does take some getting used to but after a bit of familiarisation, it is a fantastic stock, especially considering its compact size.

The battery compartment of the SCAR-SC is inside the receiver and accessible with the stock bars and butt plate removed. To remove the stock bars and butt plate simply hold the adjustment lever down and slide the butt plate assembly off to the rear. Once you have the stock removed from the gun, you will see a small port inside the adjustment lever itself. Poking a small tool through this port will push on a spring-loaded detent, and with this done you can slide the stock base down where it will stay in place about half way off the receiver.

The battery compartment is inside the receiver, just above the gearbox, ideally sized for AK style stick batteries. We recommend a 7.4V 1000mAh LiPo stick battery, but if you use a battery of this length please be careful when pulling the charging handle as if you pull it too violently it can make contact with the battery and cause damage.

Inside the exceptional externals of the SCAR-SC, we are treated to the Ares EFCS programmable gearbox, which provides a lightning-fast trigger response in semi-auto thanks to its optical sensors and electronic contacts. Use of the Ares EFCS means you can also program the SCAR-SC for burst modes of various durations with the Ares EFCS programmer (available separately). The gearbox is well tuned and runs smoothly, though if you are the type to upgrade everything make sure you look for Ares EFCS gearbox compatible parts as some of the internals are not 1:1 compatible with version 2 parts.

So, whether you are a fan of the latest and greatest real firearms, or you like the SCAR and you want a lil' one to add to your armoury, the Cyber Gun FN SCAR-SC would make a fine primary weapon, either for CQB or for a fast-paced run and gun play style. Included with the SCAR-SC is a perfectly sized hard rifle case, and a flawlessly faithful FNH style mid-cap to complete the package. The SCAR-SC is highly realistic and super short but has a robust and hefty feel which matches the real SCAR well, unlike many other short platforms. For realism and close-quarters effectiveness in equal measure, you couldn't ask for anything better!

Special Instructions

The SCAR-SC has a specifically designed charging handle which is swept down and extended for easier access. It may look like the charging handle has been bent, but this is the way the SCAR-SC was designed.

The battery compartment of the SCAR-SC appears to have plenty of room, but we advise choosing the slimmest possible stick battery and being careful when actuating the charging handle as the battery is intended to sit inside the mock bolt carrier and the cells may get damaged if the charging handle is pulled with a battery inside.
