Iconic MAC-10 & MAC-11 Replica Submachine Guns
The MAC-10/MAC-11 is the iconic 80's gangster SMG of choice. Its boxy design, often paired with a suppressor as long as the gun itself, made for a truly unique look. This style of platform has been seen everywhere, from being used by the US near the end of the Vietnam War to iconic action scenes in movies such as "The Matrix" and "Blade".
It is equally as loved in Airsoft, being adopted as a "Panic Button" style of secondary platform. It serves well as a backup plan for a sniper who gets caught out on the battlefield, or a fast-paced skirmisher cutting around the CQB site.
What is a MAC-10?
The MAC (Military Armament Corporation) Model 10, known commonly as the MAC-10, was developed by Gordon Ingram in 1964. It is an open bolt submachine gun with an insane fire rate of over 1000 rounds per minute!
The MAC-10 was offered to the US Military during the final years of the Vietnam War; however, it was later rejected due to its small size and high rate of fire.
It is often paired with the Sionics Two Stage Sound Suppressor, measuring the same length as the SMG itself. This made for an iconic look that has been seen everywhere in pop culture since the 70s!
What is a MAC-11?
The MAC-11, known officially as the Military Armament Corporation Model 11, was also developed by Gordon Ingram during the 1970s. Known as the MAC-10's little brother, it fired approximately 1200 rounds per minute, which meant controlled bursts of full auto were nearly impossible.
Whilst it could be fired in semi-auto just like the MAC-10, its accuracy was poor. It was described as being "fit only for combat in a phone booth" by International Association of Police Chiefs weapons researcher David Steele.
It was never properly adopted by any country, but some small batches were issued to police and special forces, most notably, South Korea's special forces and Brazil's GRUMEC.
Are Airsoft Mac-10s and MAC-11s good?
Yes. MAC-10s and MAC-11s are extremely fun and good for Airsoft with their fast fire rate, good gas efficiency and their compact designs. They make for good secondary platforms or for racing around a CQB site, thanks to their lightweight and single-handed operation.
What is the best Airsoft MAC-10/MAC-11?
The best Airsoft MAC-10/MAC-11 depends on your playstyle. If you're looking for a compact backup platform, then the MAC-11 is the go-to for you. If you're looking for a more standalone skirmish replica, then the slightly larger MAC-10 is perfect for you.
Are Airsoft MAC-10s/MAC-11s good for beginners?
Although not the conventional recommendation as a starter platform, Airsoft MAC-10s and MAC-11s are good replicas for beginners due to their lightweight, easy-to-understand controls, and affordable price.
They also make as good secondary or backup platforms if you get tired arms after a long skirmish.
What should I consider when buying an Airsoft MAC-10 or MAC-11?
When buying an Airsoft MAC-10 or MAC-11, consider whether you want a GBB or an AEG. GBB platforms have immersive recoil and a more realistic function, but often require more maintenance. AEG platforms are less realistic but are easier to use and require less overall maintenance.
Other important things to consider are magazine compatibility as well as upgrade/replacement part accessibility.
