If you are having a tough time deciding between all the modern handgun designs out there, and you aren't sure whether to go for a PPQ, M&P or Glock, now you no longer need to decide! The CANiK TP9 is a very recent handgun designed in Turkey and manufactured in the USA which takes the things people love about other platforms and combines them to make one of the most ergonomically pleasing pistols we have ever handled. To sweeten the deal, the Cyber Gun TP9 Elite Combat comes with a 14mm CCW male threaded outer barrel, a magazine well flare and a 20mm Picatinny frame rail, meaning the TP9 is ready for any battlefield role you have in mind!

Description

Introducing the Cyber Gun CANiK TP9 GBB pistol, a licensed replica of one of the most modern and cutting edge handgun designs to enter the US civilian tactical market in recent years. This version of the TP9 is the "Elite Combat" model, with the title "Elite" denoting its ambidextrous slide release, and "Combat" denoting the combat optimised configuration of this pistol with its threaded barrel and magazine well flare.

The TP9 has an interesting aesthetic and almost looks like CANiK combined several of the most effective and popular modern handgun designs into the ultimate modern pistol, and upon handling the TP9, the emphasis CANiK has placed on the comfort and operational effectiveness is clear. This replica TP9 is also fantastically built, with a metal slide and outer barrel and a highly detailed high-density polymer frame, just like the real deal, and also hides some interesting and innovative features which will impress anyone who loves a realistic experience.

Starting at the tip of the outer barrel we can find a steel thread protector, styled after the real Salient Arms thread protector provided on the real TP9 Elite Combat. Beneath this thread protector, we are treated to 14mm CCW male threads directly machined into the outer barrel, avoiding the balancing act of trying to tighten a suppressor without unscrewing a thread adapter. The outer barrel itself is styled after the real SAI barrel and features weight-reducing fluting cuts around its circumference and "SAI" engraved into the top flute, another "SAI" on the right side of the ejection port and "9mm" at the top with the Salient Arms "s in a cube" logo just above. Adding this sort of detail to the outer barrel alone marks this pistol out as one for the realism fans, and there are plenty more engraved trademarks elsewhere on the TP9!

The slide of the TP9 has a modern style which borrows superb ergonomic and practical features from all the best handguns out there. The front of the slide features a narrowed front end for easier insertion into a holster and deep angled serrations for additional grip when cocking the pistol. At the top of the slide, we can see a red high visibility light-enhancing insert which combines well with the flat anti-glare rear sight found at the rear of the slide for an effective modern sight setup, with no risk of mixing up sight dots as can occur with three-dot sights. At the rear of the slide, we can find more serrations which are angled to match those at the front and offer an additional option when it comes to manipulating the slide of the pistol. At the top of the slide, we can see a cutout in the slide which is covered with a plate, held onto the slide with two Allen bolts. This cutout can allow a red dot sight to be mounted with the addition of an optics mounting plate which is available separately.

At the rear of the slide we have one final feature to discuss; the cocked condition indicator. This device will let you know when the TP9 is cocked and ready to fire with a protruding red dot, which will stick out when the pistol is cocked, and retract when the pistol is not cocked. This is a great feature to have for a hammerless design and can save you the embarrassment of drawing your pistol thinking it's cocked, only to have a dead trigger and a walk back to respawn. This design of cocking indicator has the added benefit of being readable in the dark, as you can feel the indicator protruding, or not and discern the condition of your TP9 when you can't see your hand in front of your face!

Along each side of the slide, we can see more licensed trademarks, with those on the left side reading "CANiK" in Canik's own stylised font, with "9x19" engraved just below. The trademarks on the right side read "TP9 Combat Elite" with your unique serial number engraved just below the ejection port. All of the trademarks on the TP9 are flawlessly and deeply engraved, and the use of a unique serial number can be very useful for anti-theft purposes or identifying your pistol in a lost property box if you lose it mid skirmish.

Moving down to the frame we are greeted with some of the most well laid out and ergonomic controls on any Airsoft GBB pistol. The slide release catch is enlarged, and ambidextrous, allowing both left and right-handed users to manipulate the pistol swiftly. The extended surface of the slide release means that even if you are under pressure and aren't as dextrous as usual, you will still hit the catch and send the slide home, unlike certain other pistols with tiny slide release catches *cough* GLOCK *cough*.  The magazine release can be found on the left side of the pistol, and is an enlarged design for fast and easy access, especially when wearing gloves. The magazine release can also be removed and reinstalled on the right side of the pistol for left-handed use, a feature which is rarely seen on a GBB or real steel pistol for that matter!

The trigger of the TP9 is a dual-stage design, similar to an EU series pistol, meaning the pistol can be operated safely without the need for a manual safety catch which will slow you down in-game. This method of safety uses a separate centre section of the trigger to inhibit the travel of the trigger if the centre section is not pressed intentionally. This prevents a snag on your kit from causing a negligent discharge and gives you one less thing to do as you draw the TP9 and bring the sights into alignment.

The disassembly lever for the TP9 follows a similar format to a Glock, with an enlarged surface to make using the lever much easier. To remove the slide from the TP9, first remove the magazine, then rack the slide, after which the catches can be held downwards and the slide can be pulled back slightly, then pushed off towards the front. The gear HOP-up adjuster for the TP9's adjustable HOP-up can be found on the underside of the outer barrel. This device allows you to vary the amount of backspin applied to your BBs and tune the TP9 for various different ammo weights, looking for the flattest trajectory possible.

The grip of the TP9 is extremely comfortable and includes crackle texturing on either side together with squared texturing on the front and back straps to ensure you can draw the TP9 quickly without having to be concerned about accidentally launching your nice new sidearm across the skirmish site. On each side of the grip, we are treated to an embossed "CANiK" logo which matches the font used for the Canik logos on the slide. The trigger guard of the TP9 is a slim design which allows a high grip for effective recoil control, and also sports linear texture on the front to allow for modern shooting holds such as the "European" grip.

Ahead of the trigger guard, we can see the 20mm Picatinny frame rail which is moulded into the frame itself, offering the opportunity to add a pistol flashlight or aiming laser for CQB use or if you fancy the challenge of using a GBB pistol as a primary weapon. At the bottom of the grip we can find another contribution from Salient Arms, a subtle but effective magazine well flare. This device helps funnel the magazine into the magazine well and allows you to reload faster and without looking at the pistol with enough practice. On the underside of the magazine well flare we can see a small "S in a box" Salient Arms logo, adding an additional touch of realism.

On the inside, the TP9 has some surprising innovations, and we are genuinely shocked that this is not just an EU series pistol under the beautiful new shell. Removing the slide for a field strip will cause those of us who know the insides of a GBB like the back of our hands to double-take. The TP9 has no hammer in the lower frame, and we instead can see what looks like a sear. A glance at the slide will explain this, behind the blowback unit we have an actual striker! For many of us this is meaningless, but for those who love a realistic experience, this level of attention to detail is practically unheard of. The result of this striker system is a very realistic trigger feel, which cannot be discerned without shooting a loaded magazine. The trigger wall is distinct, and the reset is clear and audible, allowing for fast follow up shots from the TP9 with the added benefit of a more realistic trigger feel.

So, if you are looking for a sidearm with a unique, yet somehow familiar style, the TP9 would be perfect for the job. Its combination of proven features from many successful platforms combined into a single pistol allows the TP9 to have learned from the compromises and complaints from earlier designs, and provide the best of all their ergonomic qualities all rolled into one fantastically performing GBB pistol.
