Description
If you're looking for a milsim-friendly primary which won't break the bank or make your arms burn, the Evolution E-416 CQB Carbontech™ AEG; ETS II ETU is the way to go. Inspired by the most prolific special forces rifle out there, the E-416 is equipped with a CNC aluminium 20mm Picatinny quad-railed handguard, ready to be dressed up with accessories. The receiver is made from Evolution's strong Carbontech polymer, making the build more scratch resistant than metal receivers and far lighter as a bonus!
Inside, the E-416 is ready to rock, with internals based around the prolific version 2 gearbox with full Tokyo Marui internal parts compatibility. Inside, we are equipped with 18:1 steel gears, a polymer piston with a steel tooth rack, a sector gear delayer, a quick change spring guide and the Evolution ETS II programmable MOSFET to top it off. Also inside is a 6.01mm tightbore inner barrel, offering superb accuracy with high-quality ammo and a boost in FPS from the same strength spring.
The ETS II is Evolution's own ETU/MOSFET, designed and manufactured in Italy, and offering a massive range of programmable fire mode options along with quality-of-life features other ETUs lack. Fire mode options include 3 or 5-round burst, binary trigger, sniper delay, AUG mode and ramping full-auto; giving you the standard ETU options with extra specialised features, resulting in a highly versatile platform suitable for a range of battlefield roles!
Starting at the tip of the outer barrel, we find an M4/AR-15 birdcage flash hider mounted to 14mm CCW male threading. The outer barrel is constructed from alloy to provide a strong backbone and keep the tightbore inner barrel nice and straight for perfect accuracy. If you want to mount a tracer unit, suppressor or alternative muzzle device, all you need to do is unscrew the flash hider and mount your preferred device, thanks to the common 14mm CCW threading at the tip of the barrel.
The front iron sight is a fixed front post with "wings" on either side of it to keep it protected from accidental bumps. The sight is constructed from alloy and is not adjustable, as it is welded onto the wings. At the front of the handguard, we also have alloy sling points on either side of this platform, ready for a two-point sling setup. If you find the sling loops are too small for your sling hardware, we recommend adding the EmersonGear Universal Sling Adapter, a loop of paracord or a keyring for extra flexibility.
Surrounding the barrel, we have a polymer 20mm Picatinny quad-railed handguard with 20mm rails at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions, ready for any 20mm accessories you choose to add to complete your mission. All this rail space is excellent for people trying out new load-outs, the freedom of being able to mount common 20mm Picatinny attachments on any side of your handguard allows you to find the perfect setup.
The receiver should be a familiar sight to anyone who has handled an M4/AR-15 platform before, constructed from polymer and matching the common receiver style perfectly. This includes the reinforced front pinhole, mil-spec flat trigger guard, magazine release fence and low profile charging handle latch. The magazine release is on the right side of the magazine well, with a push-through design just like a standard M4/AR-15 AEG with a textured surface for optimal traction.
The fire selector switch is just above the pistol grip on the right side, offering 3 modes of fire with a 90-degree throw between each. The default fire modes are safe, semi-auto and full auto but with the pre-installed ETS II ETU, you have the option of using binary trigger instead of semi and 3-round burst instead of full auto. This makes the E-416 CQB very versatile and ready for any situation you may find yourself in.
The charging handle can be found at the top rear of the receiver and as mentioned, features the milspec low-profile charging handle latch to reduce snagging potential. Pulling the charging handle back will pop the dust cover open and retract the mock bolt, revealing the rotary HOP-up unit on the right side. The HOP-up allows you to adjust the amount of backspin applied to your projectiles and tune the E-416 CQB for different ammo weights, looking for the flattest possible trajectory. When you've completed your adjustments, you can slap the "ping pong paddle" style bolt release catch on the left side of the receiver to drop the mock bolt with a satisfying metal-on-metal "clank".
Up top, we have a 20mm Picatinny receiver rail with a preinstalled rear iron sight. The rear sight is adjustable for elevation by rotating the dial with the sight hole in it. If you prefer to run an optical sight, you can loosen the screws with an Allen key on the left side of the iron sights and remove them to access the full length of your receiver rail.
At the rear of the receiver, we come to the steel CQD-style sling plate, which offers ambidextrous functionality with single-point slings; perfect for left or right-handed shooters. The steel construction practically guarantees no matter what you choose to mount to the plethora of 20mm rails on the E-416 CQB, the sling plate will be strong enough to support the weight.
To the rear of the sling plate, we come to the M4/AR-15 buffer tube, which is constructed from the same strong high-density polymer used for the receiver. The buffer tube offers 6 positions of stock adjustment and boasts a low-snag design to keep mobility high. The adjustment lever is located on the bottom and is well concealed inside the design, allowing the stock to be lengthened and shortened to suit the environment and play style. We don't recommend using the visible loop sling points on the stock as they are made from polymer, we would recommend using the slit in the middle of the stock instead.
The battery compartment is inside the buffer tube as with many M4/AR-15 platforms and can comfortably fit a 7.4V 1450mAh 30C LiPo Stick Battery inside. To access the battery compartment, you can either remove the stock entirely by pulling the adjustment lever out and sliding off to the rear, or remove the butt plate by rotating it counterclockwise and pulling it off. Inside, you will find a Deans battery connector to which you mount your chosen battery. The Deans connector has the advantage of being smaller and offering lower electrical resistance when compared to the mini-Tamiya, and we are always happy to see more Deans connectors appearing on out-of-the-box AEGs.
Inside, the E-416 CQB is rocking respectable internals based around the Version 2 gearbox, offering plenty of aftermarket upgrade options for the tuning addicts. The gearbox shell is alloy and reinforced, the 18:1 steel gearset runs on 8mm oil-less steel bushings, a sector gear delayer ensures feeding is reliable at high speeds, and the polymer piston with full steel tooth rack provides low weight and strength in equal measure. The inner barrel also has a super-tight 6.01mm bore, giving the Reaper an accuracy edge with high-quality ammo and boosting FPS by enhancing air efficiency even more than common 6.03mm tightbore barrels!
The Evolution ETS II programmable ETU/MOSFET adds advanced functionality to the mix, offering programmable fire modes including 3 or 5-round burst, binary trigger, ramping full auto, sniper delay and AUG mode. Programming is carried out purely through the trigger and fire selector, meaning no extra parts are needed to take full advantage of the ETS II's advanced features. While alternative fire modes are great fun and very practical, the ETS II also offers several quality-of-life features, from auto motor diagnostics to low voltage cutoff and cycle completion, ensuring your gearbox is running efficiently with minimal parts wear.
If you need a military style primary which fits practically any special forces-themed loadout, the E-416 is a solid choice. A mission-ready build with advanced internals and superb build quality, the Evolution E-416 CQB Carbontech™ AEG; ETS II ETU is ready to get stuck in!
