- Full metal construction
- Unique weight-reduced receiver
- HAL™ Programmable ETU inside
Searching for an M4 that stands out? The Specna Arms SA-E39 EDGE™ M4/AR-15 AEG; HAL ETU™ is a full metal build with a unique ported receiver design inspired by weight-reduced 3-gun competition rifles, which prioritise handling and speed. A revamped version of the previous SA-E39, the HAL ETU version boasts modernised ergonomic furniture, M-LOK side rails pre-installed and the HAL programmable MOSFET, adding programmable fire modes, precocking and trigger sensitivity adjustment into the proven EDGE™ internal formula.
Inside the ORION™ V2 gearbox, we are treated to a CNC aluminium nozzle, a CNC aluminium ball bearing piston head, a CNC aluminium cylinder head, a polymer piston with a full steel tooth rack and an ESA quick-change spring guide with ball bearings in its base to reduce rotational force applied to the gearbox shell. The gearset is a steel 18:1 standard ratio example running on 8mm ball bearing bushings, providing a smoother gearbox report and reducing friction to boost the rate of fire.
Also inside is Specna's usual 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel and rotary HOP-up combo, providing excellent accuracy potential and the ability to tune trajectory for different ammo weights more precisely than with the older "gear" HOP-up unit. If you're a speedy skirmisher seeking a primary with race gun-style looks, the Specna Arms SA-E39 EDGE™ M4/AR-15 AEG; HAL ETU™ should be on your shopping list!

Description
If you prefer speedy modern race guns to bulky, hefty military replicas, the Specna Arms SA-E39 EDGE™ M4/AR-15 AEG; HAL ETU™ has your name on it! A full metal build with a dynamic M-LOK handguard and a unique weight-reduced ported receiver, this 3-gun style build definitely stands out amongst the almost endless number of MK18 and URG-I builds, bringing upgradable AR-15 AEG internals to an interesting and rare shape.
A revamped version of the original SA-E39, the HAL ETU model adds programmable fire modes into the mix, along with precocking and trigger sensitivity adjustment. All the best bits of the original EDGE internals remain, including the ORION V2 gearbox with CNC aluminium compression parts, a polymer piston with a full steel tooth rack, 18:1 ratio steel gears running on 8mm ball bearing bushings and a quick-change ESA spring guide, making power tuning a breeze. As is the standard for Specna, the inner barrel is a 6.03mm tightbore, enhancing accuracy potential and providing an FPS boost thanks to air efficiency improvements. If you prefer speed over heft but still want a full metal build in your hands, you can't go wrong with the Specna Arms SA-E39 EDGE™ M4/AR-15 AEG; HAL ETU™
Starting at the front, we find a pre-installed bird cage-style flash hider mounted to the 14mm CCW threading at the tip of the 10.5-inch outer barrel. If you're the type to customise, you'll be happy to learn that the 14mm CCW threading is the most commonly used on Airsoft guns, giving you access to a wide variety of aftermarket muzzle devices, including flash hiders, muzzle brakes, tracer units and suppressors.
The handguard of the SA-E39 is an M-LOK/20mm Picatinny hybrid design with an ergonomic recess in the centre, offering a full-length 20mm Picatinny rail at the 12 o'clock position which seamlessly mates with the receiver rail. M-LOK slots are present at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, with the front slots being extended out to the side by a few mm, allowing clearance for an M-LOK-mounted tactical flashlight.
Pre-installed on the 3 and 9 o'clock M-LOK slots, we are treated to a pair of 20mm Picatinny rails for M-LOK, made from polymer. These rails allow you to mount 20mm Picatinny accessories onto the M-LOK slots, but if you prefer a sleeker look, you can remove them entirely. On the bottom, the handguard is rocking the Specna Arms SAAS Angled Foregrip, a comfortable, angled grip design with another QD sling point built in. This grip can also be removed to reveal more M-LOK slots, ready to be kitted out.
Mounted to the upper Picatinny rail, we can find pre-installed flip-up aperture iron sights, made from high-density polymer and offering toolless windage adjustment via the drum on the right side of the rear sight. The front sight is also adjustable for elevation using an M4/AR-15 front sight adjustment tool. The sights are rail-mounted and can be removed, but thanks to their low-profile form, they can be left installed and flipped down for emergency use without obstructing the top rail and preventing a scope or red dot sight from being mounted.
As we come to the receiver of the SA-E39, we can take note of its familiar M4/AR-15 style layout, making it an easy transition in terms of training if you're already accustomed to running an AR platform in-game. The most noticeable change from a milspec AR is the weight-reducing ports, machined along the left side of the upper receiver and right side of the magazine well, adding sporty styling to the mix while saving weight to enhance handling. The magazine release fence on the right side is serrated, and the forward assist bulge is scalloped, shaving off a few more precious grams so you can outpace your foes!
The charging handle is an extended example, positioned at the top rear of the receiver, which can be pulled back to reveal the rotary HOP-up unit, the latest design for the M4/AR-15 AEG and is known for allowing finer increments of adjustment for more precise HOP-up application, and holding its setting for longer under the vibrations of full-auto fire.
The fire selector is of the standard M4/AR-15 layout, with a 3-position selector switch located above the pistol grip on the left side, offering safe, semi-auto and full auto. The selector has a 90-degree throw between each fire mode, allowing the control to be used swiftly while minimising the chances of accidentally knocking the selector out of place. Being equipped with either the ASTER II™ or HAL¹ MOSFET, these fire modes can be programmed with a wide variety of alternatives, from burst mode to binary trigger and more!
The Specna Arms SA-E39 features a skeletonised flat trigger, blending well with its competition-shooting inspired build and allowing for snappy double taps in semi-auto. The pistol grip features crackle texturing on either side and linear serrations on the front and back, providing excellent gripping qualities for both gloved and ungloved users. As with most M4/AR-15 AEGs, this grip is compatible with aftermarket M4/AR-15 AEG grips, ideal for customisation addicts!
The magazine release is located on the magazine well on the right side and is well within reach of the trigger finger for right-handed users. This mag catch is right-hand optimised but can be used by lefties as well with a bit of practice. The right side of the upper receiver has the usual M4/AR-15 features, including a mock forward assist button, mock brass deflector and the dust cover which conceals the mock bolt and HOP-up adjuster.
At the rear of the receiver, we are treated to an ambidextrous sling plate which offers two sling points on the left side and one on the right. The sling plate is ideal for single-point slings, but can also be paired with a front sling mount if you prefer a two-point sling setup. Being constructed from steel allows the sling plate to take the weight of the SA-E39 easily, and provides confidence that the plate will never fail and dump your gorgeous rifle into the dirt.
Following the sling plate, we come to the 6-position M4/AR-15 buffer tube, which is constructed from aluminium for a great balance of strength, realism and low weight. The Crane stock of the SA-E39 is mounted over the buffer tube and features a sloped cheekpiece for greater comfort, a thick rubber butt plate with aggressive gripping texture and a QD sling socket on either side, both of which are fully functional. The stock has 6 positions of adjustment, making it suitable for any body type or loadout and includes a quick-detach butt plate for easy access to the battery compartment.
The battery compartment is inside the crane stock, accessible by squeezing the two tabs at the toe of the stock together, after which you can lift the butt plate off, remove the battery plug and make use of the stock's built-in battery compartment to house a nunchuck/crane-style battery. The pre-installed connector is a Deans/T-plug, but a Deans to mini-Tamiya adapter is included in the box. For the SA-E39, we recommend a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo crane/nunchuck battery for an easy fit and great performance.
Inside, the SA-E39 keeps the best of the previous EDGE series, adding in the HAL programmable ETU for more customisation options than ever before. The ORION V2 gearbox boasts a CNC aluminium piston head, CNC aluminium cylinder head, CNC aluminium nozzle and a polymer piston with a full rack of steel teeth. The gearset is a standard ratio 18:1 set made from steel, running on 8mm ball bearing bushings for a smooth gearbox sound and enhanced mechanical efficiency. The spring guide is also an ESA quick-change example, allowing for easy power tuning without disassembling the gearbox itself.
The HAL ETU adds a whole lot of functionality into the mix, with programmable fire controls, 6 levels of pre-cocking adjustment and 5 levels of trigger sensitivity adjustment. Available fire modes include 3 or 5-round burst, binary trigger, AUG mode aka two-stage trigger, semi-auto only and sniper delay, giving you loads of options for how you use your SA-E39. The inner barrel is also a 6.03mm tightbore example, improving accuracy potential and ensuring the E39 does the job at long range.
If you prefer a sporty AR to military style builds, the Specna Arms SA-E39 EDGE™ M4/AR-15 AEG; HAL ETU™ is a solid choice with more than its fair share of performance benefits! With a unique receiver design rarely seen on pre-built platforms, proven EDGE™ internals and the HAL ETU to top it off, this is the SA-E39 in its ultimate form!

These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
