If you're after a modern M4/AR-15 platform with speedy looks and the lightweight build to match, the EMG SAI GRY M4/AR-15 AEG should be in your sights! A detailed replica of the real steel Salient Arms GRY series, this beast is made almost entirely from strong fibre-reinforced polymer, making it ultra-lightweight with a high quality feel and more scratch resistance than full metal equivalents.

Being licensed by Salient Arms International via EMG/6mm Pro Shop, the GRY also boasts flawless trademarks across the design, with stylish SAI logos throughout deeply engraved for long-lasting good looks. The "JailBrake" style muzzle device can be removed in seconds to change up the looks or to add a tracer unit, and its ambidextrous fire selector switch and charging handle make for easy manipulation from either shoulder. If you're planning a lightweight build but need cutting-edge looks and licensed trademarks, the EMG SAI GRY M4/AR-15 AEG is the way to go!

Description

If you like speedy looks in a lightweight package, the EMG SAI GRY M4/AR-15 AEG should be on your shopping list! A rock-solid high-density polymer build which is as light as a beachball, the GRY is based on the real steel Salient Arms GRY AR-15 rifle line, available in multiple length variants and colour options to suit any aesthetic preference. With licensed trademarks across the design, fibre-reinforced polymer components which feel absolutely bomb proof and plenty of upgrade potential thanks to its version 2 gearbox-based design, this could be the ultimate easy-mode AEG!

Starting at the front, we can find the ultra-intimidating "JailBrake" muzzle device, a unique Salient Arms design intended to reduce felt recoil in real steel form. The JailBrake is a big part of the Salient Arms look, but just like the real thing, it can be removed in a matter of seconds to reveal a polymer three-prong "SF" style flash hider affixed to 14mm CCW male threading via a grub screw.

The catch to remove the JailBrake muzzle device is on the bottom, recessed into the 6 o'clock Picatinny rail. To remove the JailBrake, simply pull the catch rearwards and rotate the device by approximately 45 degrees, after which it can be lifted free. This means tracer units and suppressors are a go for the SAI GRY, as long as you're willing to remove the snazzy JailBrake device!

Moving rearwards, we come to the handguard, a 20mm Picatinny/M-LOK hybrid design with short lengths of 20mm Picatinny rail at the front with M-LOK slots running back to the receiver. The M-LOK slots allow M-LOK accessories to be mounted directly to save weight, but if you prefer good old Picatinny, you can add rail adapters for M-LOK and use more common 20mm accessories. At the front and rear of the handguard on each side, we are treated to QD sling sockets, which can be paired with the QD sockets on the stock to mount a two-point sling. We recommend the HASTA Adaptive Mission Sling, but if you already have QD sling swivels, you can mount any sling you require.

Following the handguard, we reach the receiver, a familiar design to most with notable ergonomic enhancements. The first thing we notice is the gorgeous Salient Arms trademarks, deeply recessed into the receiver for a discreet, professional and realistic look. Both sides of the magazine well feature the iconic SAI "S in a cube" logo, with "Salient" marked on the left side of the upper, and the standard calibre and location of manufacture marks on the left side of the lower receiver. Build-wise, the receiver feels fantastic quality, far better than most polymers with not a hint of flex, wobble or rattle to be found.

The fire selector switch is an enhanced ambidextrous design, located on either side, just above the pistol grip. Far easier to work with gloves on than a standard AR selector, the SAI selector switch moves smoothly between modes with a lovely audible and tactile click when in position, great for those who challenge themselves with "sights on, safety off" manipulation.

The charging handle, located at the top rear of the receiver, is an ambidextrous design styled after the "Raptor" charging handle, able to be pulled from either side with a single finger, in line with modern AR shooting techniques. Pulling the charging handle back will open the dust cover on the right side and retract the mock bolt carrier, revealing the rotary HOP-up adjuster. The HOP-up allows you to adjust the amount of backspin applied to your BBs and tune for different ammo weights, seeking the flattest possible trajectory. The rotary HOP-up design is known as the latest and greatest for M4 AEGs, and it is always nice to see up-to-date internal parts, even in reasonably priced platforms like this.

With the charging handle pulled, the glamorous gold-coloured bolt carrier will reveal itself, boasting Salient markings and colouration to perfectly match the real steel SAI "TiN" Integrated Gas Key Bolt Carrier Group. This is a detail often missed on similar replicas, showing EMG prioritises authenticity, even if it costs them a little extra in R&D. When you've finished HOP-up adjustment or enjoying the bolt carrier's dazzling looks, you can hit the "ping pong paddle" bolt catch on the left side of the receiver to send the mock bolt home with a satisfying "clank".

At the bottom of the receiver, we can find the pistol grip, which is a modern ergonomic design with a filled-out backstrap and texture on either side. The front and rear features linear grooves for added traction, and the grip angle is more vertical than traditional pistol grips, making it more comfortable for modern shooting stances with the stock fully collapsed. At the rear of the receiver, we are treated to an ambidextrous steel sling plate, ideally suited to single-point "hook" slings. The sling plate is a fantastic single-point sling mounting option if you are accustomed to "shoulder-to-shoulder transitions" when skirmishing, preventing the sling from being tangled and avoiding the need to adjust length.

At the rear, we have the prolific M4/AR-15 buffer tube, constructed from alloy and offering 6 adjustment positions for the pre-installed battery stock. The adjustment lever of the stock is on the bottom; a low-profile design intended to reduce equipment snags, a considerable improvement over the ageing crane battery stock design. A QD sling socket is present on either side, along with conventional "footman loops" for standard strap slings. The butt plate is rubberised and serrated for optimal wet-weather traction and hinges open for easy battery access via the button in the centre.

With the button in the centre of the butt plate pulled down, the butt plate will hinge open around the toe of the stock, revealing a mini-Tamiya battery connector inside the buffer tube. This means you have the choice of either stick or nunchuck/crane configuration batteries. We recommend either a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo in nunchuck config or a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo in stick config for an easy fit and solid performance.

Inside, the SAI GRY is equipped with the basic yet proven internals from CYMA's Sport series. The Version 2 gearbox has an alloy shell, 18:1 steel gears, a polycarbonate piston and a quick-change spring system for easy power tuning. The inner barrel is also a 6.03mm tightbore, providing superb accuracy potential with high-quality BBs. This may not be as snazzy inside as EMG's full metal stuff, but its superb quality externals make it a great base to build upon!

If you want elite looks but you don't have elite bucks, the EMG SAI GRY M4/AR-15 AEG is what you need! A lightweight yet stunning external build bristling with Salient Arms trademarks, we want to see a DSG gearbox setup in one of these for the ultimate easy-mode skirmishing experience!
