Description
If you're seeking an ultra-modern DMR base platform but need the beastly looks of a 7.62x51-style replica, the East Crane EC-903 SR-25 PC DMR AEG; Advanced Edition is a great option. Boasting full metal construction and top-notch externals, the EC-903 is inspired by the real steel SR-25 PC (Precision Carbine), the most modern version of the SR-25/MK11 MOD 0 once used by the US Navy SEALS and Army Special Forces.
Equipped with a free-floated M-LOK handguard, a fantastic replica of the KAC QDC flash hider, an ambidextrous KAC-style receiver and QD sling points in several locations, the EC-903 is at the cutting edge of external design and just as well-equipped on the inside. Its version 2 long gearbox has an alloy shell, 18:1 steel gears running on 8mm ball bearing bushings, a quick change spring guide, a long piston with a steel tooth rack and a pre-installed MOSFET to enhance electrical efficiency and provide cycle completion. Mechanically pre-locked to semi-auto with a beastly .308-style exterior, the EC-903 SR-25 PC DMR AEG; Advanced Edition is ready for DMR duty with a simple spring swap!
Starting at the front, we can find a KAC QDC style 3-prong flash hider made from steel mounted to the 14mm CCW male threads at the tip of the alloy outer barrel. The QDC is a great fit for this SR-25 PC-style build, but can be replaced with a suppressor or tracer unit easily thanks to the common 14mm CCW male threading. A suppressor would really suit this DMR-style build, but beware, it is already rather long as it is!
Next up, we come to the handguard, which is a great replica of the real steel URX4, featuring M-LOK negative space attachment slots at the 3, 6, & 9 o'clock positions with additional slots at the offset angles, ready for M-LOK accessories. Running along the top, we have a 20mm Picatinny rail which runs all the way back to the receiver, mating seamlessly with the receiver rail. This gives you plenty of space to mount your choice of optical sight, whether it's a simple red dot sight or a full-sized LPVO or rifle scope. QD sling sockets are also present on either side of the handguard, allowing the QD sling swivels to be fitted for a slick modern sling setup, which is easy to remove and remount.
Moving rearwards, we come to the receiver, which is a modernised design with angled surfaces and a reprofiled brass deflector. The usual forward-assist bulge found aft of the brass deflector has been deleted entirely, keeping the look in line with real steel KAC precision rifle builds. On top of the receiver rail, we can find our rear flip-up iron sight, a close match for real steel KAC irons. Adjustments for windage and elevation are applied via the dial on the right side and the rotary ring around the sight aperture, respectively.
The controls are conventionally laid out for an M4/AR-15 replica, with the fire selector positioned just above the pistol grip on the left side, well within reach of the shooter's thumb when the rifle is held in a firing grip. Being based on the real steel SR-25 PC, the fire selector offers 2 modes in a SAFE-SEMI layout with a 90-degree throw between each selector position. Semi-auto locking is achieved using a selector block built into the receiver, making the EC-903 ideal for strict skirmish sites which require mechanical semi-auto locking for DMRs.
The mag release is ambidextrous, just like the real SR-25 PC, offering the standard AR mag release button on the right side of the magazine well, and an additional button on the left side. This makes weakside reloads easy for those who like to switch shoulders to take advantage of cover and allows left-handed shooters to enjoy the enviable ergonomics the AR platform is known for.
Just below, we can find the trigger guard, which is a KAC-style enlarged example, a feature present on many modern Knights-inspired builds. This gives you easy access to the trigger when wearing full-finger gloves and provides a finger ledge on each side, providing a place to index your trigger finger between shots.
At the top rear of the receiver, we can find the charging handle which is constructed from alloy. Pulling the charging handle will open the dust cover and retract the mock bolt, revealing the rotary HOP-up inside. Turning the dial allows you to tune the SR-25 PC for different ammo weights, looking for the flattest possible trajectory. When you've finished adjusting, hit the "ping pong paddle" bolt catch on the left side of the receiver or the ambi bolt catch on the right to release the mock bolt with a satisfying "clank".
The pistol grip of the EC-903 is an M16A2/M4A1 style pistol grip, also known as the "A2" finger ridged grip. The A2 has diamond checkering on either side and linear texture on the back strap to provide excellent gripping qualities, whether you wear gloves or not. The finger ridge is designed to help you keep hold of the rifle and prevent the grip from slipping out of your hands when held in a single hand. As with most M4/AR-15 AEGs, this grip is compatible with aftermarket M4/AR-15 AEG grips, ideal for customisation addicts!
At the rear of the receiver, we are treated to an ambidextrous QD sling plate, ready for a QD swivel to be mounted for an ultra-modern, quick-release sling setup. The sling plate is a fantastic single-point sling mounting option but can also be used with the front QD sling sockets on the handguard or the two on the stock, providing plenty of configuration options for two-point sling users.
At the rear, we have the prolific M4/AR-15 buffer tube, constructed from alloy and offering 6 adjustment positions for the pre-installed Crane battery stock. The adjustment lever of the stock is on the bottom; simply hold it down to slide the stock into your chosen position. A QD sling socket is present on either side, along with conventional "footman loops" for standard strap slings. The butt plate is rubberised and serrated for optimal wet-weather traction which also makes it ideal for use with body armour and modern loadouts.
The battery compartment is inside the crane stock, accessible by squeezing the two tabs at the toe of the stock together, after which you can lift the butt plate off, remove the battery plug and make use of the stock's built-in battery compartment to house a nunchuck/crane-style battery. Inside the buffer tube, you'll find a Deans/t-plug battery connector, a lower resistance alternative to the mini-Tamiya found on lower-cost AEGs. For the EC-903, we recommend a 7.4V 1450mAh LiPo crane/nunchuck battery for an easy fit and great performance.
Inside, the EC-903 is very well equipped, boasting pre-upgraded parts exactly where you need them for a DMR build. The gearbox is the version 2 long equipped with an alloy shell, 18:1 steel gears running on 8mm ball-bearing bushings, a long piston with a full steel tooth rack, quick change spring system and in-line MOSFET to enhance trigger response and provide cycle completion. The inner barrel is a 6.04mm tightbore, offering improved accuracy and air efficiency for superb accuracy potential downrange.
If you're working on a modern DMR build and need the 30-hate look, the EC-903 SR-25 PC DMR AEG; Advanced Edition from East Crane is a fantastic base gun. A top-quality full metal build with internals begging to be brought up to DMR FPS, the EC-903 is a mean machine ready for long-range engagements!
