Airsoft Do's and Don'ts - Summer Safety Guide
Beat the Heat on the field - Airsoft Summer Safety - Do’s and Don’ts
Do - Summer Airsoft essentials
Stay hydrated - Drinking water regularly will improve your energy levels and help you replace water lost through sweating. This essential in any weather, but particularly important in summer.
You can bring water onto the field, either in a normal water bottle stashed in a pouch or with dedicated Hydration Bladder Systems, which allow you to drink on the go.
Take regular breaks - Sunstroke can develop quickly and catch you off guard. If you get it, you won’t forget it!
Coupled with staying well hydrated, taking regular breaks in the shade will help prevent sunstroke and keep you fighting fit.
Wear sun tan lotion/sun screen - If you’re prone to burning, slather yourself up with sun tan lotion (sunscreen for the yanks) if you’re wearing clothing with less coverage.
Choose tinted eye protection - Excessive light and glare can make it difficult to avoid obstacles on the field.
For a clear view of your target and environment, choose eye protection with an appropriate tint for your environment.
Choose appropriate clothing - You’ll heat up a lot faster in hot weather, so you’ll need to adapt your loadout to suit.
We recommend replacing field shirts and jackets with a t-shirt or a UBACS if you prefer to have your arms covered.
UBACS (Under Body Armour Combat Shirt) were designed for desert combat with body armour, so if you still want to look your best, rock a UBACS to stay fresh.
Trim down your loadout - In certain temperatures, wearing a full-blown plate carrier vest is simply impractical, not to mention uncomfortable.
Many of us switch out the carrier for a micro chest rig, belt setup or another form of low-profile rig for summer games.
Keep a can of Summer Gas handy - If you run gas guns, they might exceed site FPS limits in warmer weather. We always keep a can of lower-pressure gas than our usual handy as we're committed to our GBBRs!
Don't - What NOT to do at Summer Airsoft events
DON'T leave cans of Airsoft gas or other pressurised containers on the dashboard of your car - This will likely result in a big bang and potentially damage to your motor.
DON'T wear your EVA foam juggernaught suit - You'll definitely overheat! A minimalist setup is the key to staying safe and enjoying the game.
DON'T drink an energy drink all day - While caffeine is an anti-inflammatory, it will also dehydrate you. Make sure you keep topped up with water to keep your energy high and stay safe on the field.
DON'T bake in the sun all day - While you'll adjust to the high temperature, this generally isn't healthy, especially if you're putting maximum effort in. Take 5 in the shade between respawns to stay fresh and avoid heat exhaustion and sunstroke.
DON'T leave your personal effects in direct sunlight - This can cause issues for everything from deodorant cans to phones and gas blowback magazines. Keep your kit out of the sun to avoid any mishaps.
DON'T continue if you feel tired, dazed or weak - This could be a sign of sunstroke. Dip out of the game before things escalate; it isn't worth the risk.
Check on your friends if they seem particularly tired or confused - Keep an eye on your battle buddies. If they're slurring their speech or acting weirder than usual, ask them when they last had some water or took a break.
