- CNC T6 Aluminium upper & polymer lower
- MechLabs XX-MOD Engine & ROTO HOP-up
- Pre-built mechanical HPA rifle - Semi/full auto
We experienced intermittent feeding at high rates of fire (26+ RPS) when the included magazine is filled fully. We recommend underloading the mag to around 150 BBs for more reliable feeding at high speed. Alternatively, you can reduce the rate of fire using the "Air Bender" system or load up on PTS EPM1-RX Magazines, which feed flawlessly.
If your sights are set on an HPA pre-build, the Helden Airsoft HR556 10" S-HPA Assault Rifle is a fantastic option! A pure mechanical HPA rifle with uniquely styled externals, the HR556 doesn't require a battery and is capable of both semi-auto and full-auto fire, with an adjustable rate of fire via the innovative XX-MOD engine and its "Air Bender" system.
On the outside, the HR556 is a cutting-edge design with all the features expected of a modern platform, including an M-LOK handguard, monolithic 20mm Picatinny railed receiver and a 1913 stock interface. This means customisation options are practically limitless, from mission essentials like lasers, flashlights and optics to alternative stocks, foregrips and more.
The internals of this beast are a perfect pairing of the XX-MOD Mechanical engine and the ROTO Bucking-less HOP-up unit, innovative, high-performance parts designed to connect flawlessly, resulting in high efficiency and maximum reliability. If you're moving over to HPA seeking a user-friendly pre-build with top-notch external quality, the Helden Airsoft HR556 10" S-HPA Assault Rifle is one to watch!

The Mechlabs XX-MOD Mechanical HPA Engine
Also known as the "Double X-MOD" or simply "X-MOD", this advanced HPA engine features a 3-axis XYZ alignment system that ensures flawless feeding, ultimate reliability and pure efficiency in your pre-built Helden Airsoft HR556.
Made from CNC-machined 6 Series aluminium, the XX-MOD perfectly combines low weight and high strength, featuring a modular block design for easy reconfiguration and maintenance.
Each block connects using a precision lock-fit interface, keeping everything aligned regardless of how often the configuration is changed.
The ultra-light trigger features magnetic return, eliminating its spring, a known weak point and a fiddly part to work with. Adjustable travel and sensitivity allow it to be set to suit a range of preferences.
Its curved design with CNC-machined serrations provides ample traction and a custom look. If you prefer a flat trigger, you can swap it out for a MechLabs Flat Trigger for XX-MOD engines.
The most advanced features of the XX-MOD are its optimised burst management and "Air Bender" rate-of-fire adjustment system.
This enhances efficiency compared to other engines in full-auto mode, resulting in better shot-to-shot consistency and pinpoint accuracy downrange, even with long bursts.
The Mechlabs ROTO Bucking-less HOP-up unit
An innovative new take on the HOP-up system, the ROTO uses a precision micro-injected nub built into the HOP-up arm, but eliminates the HOP-up bucking from the equation entirely.
This means no more replacing HOP-up buckings once they wear out, less hassle with installation and a far stronger, more precise HOP-up effect, especially when used with high-energy setups running heavy BBs.
Paired with the MechLabs XX-MOD engine in the HR556, the ROTO takes advantage of the ZERO Cap system, a threaded interface which connects the engine to the HOP-up unit seamlessly, preventing alignment issues and maximising efficiency.
Like AEG rifles we're all familiar with, the CNC aluminium adjustment dial is accessible through the mock ejection port when the mock bolt is locked to the rear.
The direction of adjustment is helpfully indicated on the body of the unit itself, and adjustments are smooth and firm, pointing to superb setting retention under high speed full-auto fire.
Once you've finished adjusting, hit the enlarged bolt release catch on the left side to send the bolt home with a "clank" and seal the HOP-up unit from dirt and debris ingress.
We recommend going for 0.36g+ BBs for the best performance with this incredibly potent unit.
The Helden Airsoft HR556 Rifle
Taking design cues from the real steel Sig MCX, PSA JAKL and other ultra-modern rifle designs, the HR556 features ambidextrous controls, modern M-LOK and Picatinny attachment rails and a 1913 stock interface; everything a rifle platform needs to compete with the best on the field currently.
Starting at the front, we can find a unique flash hider design inspired by real steel Dead Air KeyMo devices, adding a stylish touch to the front end. While the flash hider looks great, it can easily be swapped out for any device designed for 14mm CCW male barrel threads. We suggest a suppressor with a foam filling for a near-silent muzzle report.
Next up, we reach the handguard, CNC-machined from T6 aluminium with M-LOK slots at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, ready for your choice of M-LOK accessories. On either side at the rear, we're also equipped with QD sling sockets, allowing QD sling swivels to be fitted for a quick-release sling setup.
The upper part of the handguard is machined as a single piece with the receiver itself, known as a "monolithic upper". This means you can make use of the full length of the upper 20mm Picatinny rail for optical sights and aiming lasers, with no worries about losing your zero when force is applied to the handguard. Like the handguard, the upper is CNC machined from T6 aluminium; as strong as it is beautiful!
At the front of the upper/handguard, we are treated to a dummy gas adjuster and dummy gas block, adding a hint of plausibility to this original Airsoft design. At the front of the monolithic upper, we have weight reduction ports on either side, which also add significantly to the aggressive modern look.
The charging handle is pre-installed on the right side but can be swapped to either side, ideal for left or right-handed users. Pulling this back will lock the mock bolt open, revealing the rotary adjuster of the Mechlabs ROTO Bucking-less HOP-up unit. The ROTO is a uniquely advanced design which uses no HOP-up bucking, intended for use with heavy BBs and high-energy setups. Learn more about the ROTO below!
Once you've completed your adjustment, hit the enlarged bolt release catch on the centre left side of the receiver to send the bolt home. This mock bolt is a full-travel type, meaning it goes all the way back, and hitting the bolt release results in a very satisfying metal-on-metal "clank".
The fire controls of the HR556 are similarly laid out to the M4/AR-15 platform, something most skirmishers will be used to at this point. The magazine release is ambidextrous, with enlarged buttons on either side of the magazine well, making for easy reloads, whether you're left or right-handed.
The fire selector is a similar story; a set of unique ambidextrous selector switches with enlarged surfaces for ease of use in all weather conditions, with or without gloves. The available modes are safe, semi-automatic and fully automatic, with a 90-degree throw between each, just like an M4.
Moving down, we come to the pistol grip, a modern design with a filled-out backstrap to support the web of the hand and stippled texture panels on each side for superb gripping qualities. The front and rear of the grip also feature linear serrations, enhancing traction whether you wear gloves in-game or not.
At the rear of the receiver, we're treated to QD sling sockets on each side, ready for QD sling swivels. The sockets themselves are made from steel, inset into the high-density polymer lower receiver and plenty strong enough to support the HR556 when decked out with accessories.
At the rear, the HR556 features what is known as a "1913" stock interface, the same stock mounting rail present on the MCX, MPX and many other recently designed real steel rifles. This means you can customise it with a wide variety of aftermarket stock options, from sleek minimalist stocks to folding AR buffer tubes, Visor/Respirator stocks and plenty more.
The included stock is made from strong reinforced polymer with a steel and alloy folding mechanism, keeping weight distribution realistic and overall weight to a minimum. To fold the stock to the side, press the textured button on the right, and it can be folded over to the left. Like the receiver, the stock also includes two steel QD sling sockets, one on each side.
The grippy rubber butt plate features a "rolled toe", an attribute present on many modern stocks designed for use with modern plate carriers. The deep serrations on the butt plate ensure the stock stays firmly and comfortably planted on your shoulder, with or without armour.

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
