Bolster Tuned StG-44 Sturmgewehr AEG

As with previous Bolster Tuned builds (formerly known as Patrol Base X Gate ASTER edition), this isn't your usual upgraded AEG. The Bolster Armouries tech team fully disassemble each of these AEGs down to every screw, bolt and bushing to perfectly tune the internals, polish the piston tracks and bearing holes, shim the gears to absolute perfection and replace parts to address the weak points in the original platform. The Bolster techs treat these AEGs like they are building them for themselves, and if it doesn't pass their rigorous checks, which include a 60m accuracy test, it goes back to the bench for more work.

The Gate ASTER™ SE V2 MOSFET was added to provide advanced functionality for this retro beast, boasting programmable fire controls through the Gate Control Station app, Gate Blu-Link or Gate USB Link, adjustable pre-cocking for a ferocious trigger response in semi-auto, cycle timing control, adaptive active braking, adjustable trigger sensitivity, and voltage control, all of which combine to give this authentic WWII replica a wealth of functionality that is hard to beat.

The motor installed is the Warhead Base 36K CNC Black Brushless Motor, offering a super speedy motor which uses high-strength, SH-rated Neodymium magnets. Being a brushless motor, the Warhead CNC Black simply doesn't heat up as the only friction generated inside is with the air, keeping this cool and allowing you to let off some seriously long bursts guilt-free. The Warhead moves the Bolster Tuned StG-44 up to the next level of Airsoft performance and puts it hot on the heels of the full-fat Bolster Armouries ONYX, ARKOSE, ATLAS, VULKAN and OBIRE builds.

To ensure reliable feeding at its new astonishing rate of fire, the Bolster team installed the FPS Softair Carbon Fibre Reinforced Tappet Plate paired with the FPS Softair Reinforced Polymer Nozzle with inner O-ring. Ideal for a precise build which requires perfect nozzle alignment, the FPS tappet plate is constructed from carbon fibre-reinforced nylon polymer which has the perfect amount of rigidity and flex without being vulnerable to sudden fractures under heavy load as a conventional polycarbonate tappet might.

The tappet plate is an essential part when it comes to ensuring the AEG's internals are timed correctly and that feeding is smooth and constant. The FPS Tappet has an absolutely flawless shape and the perfect amount of strength while avoiding being so hard it becomes brittle. Its carbon fibre reinforced polymer gives it the edge in durability over every other tappet on the market, and naturally, it engages perfectly with the FPS Reinforced Nozzle.

Being a lower-priced base platform than the usual Bolster Tuned build, the team opted to base the gearbox build around the CYMA Platinum Complete V2 Gearbox, keeping performance and reliability in line with previous builds. The Platinum Gearbox is host to the usual upgraded internals, including CNC aluminium piston and cylinder heads, a reinforced polymer piston with a full steel tooth rack and a steel quick change spring guide.

The CYMA piston head was found to be suboptimal in the StG build. As such, the team installed the Gate EON Power Hybrid CNC Aluminium Piston Head, bringing a more premium part to the table to ensure FPS deviation between shots is minimised, resulting in considerable accuracy improvements and a tighter grouping at maximum range.

With the Warhead 36K Brushless Motor installed, the Bolster tech team opted to reduce the gear ratio from the CYMA 13:1 set included with the Platinum gearbox back to a standard 18:1 set to maintain reliability in the long term. The Solink 18:1 CNC Steel Gearset was chosen for this task due to its impressive strength and flawless meshing with both the CYMA piston and the pinion gear of the Warhead motor.

The Solink gears are tuned to an 18:1 ratio, which means that for every 18 revolutions of the motor, the gearbox will complete one full cycle. Despite replacing the high-speed gearset with a stronger standard speed set, the StG-44 still lets rip with an impressive 28 rounds per second! The set includes a spur gear, sector gear, and bevel gear which are all precisely machined and shimmed to perfection by the Bolster team for flawless meshing and smooth, reliable performance.

Also present are Bolster Armouries Sector Gear Screws, joining the two pieces of the sector gear together, replacing tiny parts many manufacturers skimp out on. These high-performance reinforced gears run on Bolster Armouries EZO Bearings to guarantee the perfect combination of strength and low friction. The EZO bearings allow the Solink gears to spin freely at the tremendous rate provided by the Warhead Brushless Motor with minimal chances of failure, all while reducing stress on the gearbox shell and gear axles.

Being equipped with the now borderline obsolete gear HOP-up out of the box, the StG-44 absolutely needed a modern rotary HOP-up unit to reach the Bolster benchmark for accuracy and range. After testing several units from different brands, the team settled on the Novritch Polymer Rotary HOP-up Unit, which was a flawless fit in the StG receiver and provides the consistent performance the Bolster team demands from its custom AEGs.

The stock 6.08mm bore inner barrel was also swapped out for the KRYTAC 6.05mm Tightbore Inner barrel, offering a super-smooth polished inner surface, a tighter bore for air-seal improvements and a wider HOP-up window, ideally suited to the Friction Pro High Performance HOP-up Bucking from 4UANTUM.

After making its way through the Bolster testing gauntlet, the 4UANTUM Friction Pro High-Performance Hop Up Bucking was chosen for the StG-44, improving long-range performance considerably, both in terms of accuracy and maximum range. While it is new to the market, the 4UANTUM bucking has proven very effective in previous Bolster Tuned builds, ensuring the shooter gets the consistent 60m accuracy a Bolster Tuned platform deserves.

Honorable mentions go to the ARCTURUS AK Spring Guide Retention Screw and Bolster Armouries Stainless Steel Sector Gear Screws. The Spring Guide Retention Screw keeps the quick change spring guide firmly horizontal so no energy is lost with upward and downward movement and the Sector Gear Screws keep the two parts of the sector gear locked in place to minimise failure points. These minor parts keep the Tuned StG-44 performing at peak efficiency in the long term.

The battery compartment of the StG-44 is inside the stock and to access it you will need to remove the stock entirely. To do this, push the pin in the stock base through from the right and pull it out from the left side, after which the stock and its base should come straight off.

Inside the receiver, you will see the Deans battery connector and inside the stock you will see a cylindrical hollow designed to fit AK-type slim stick batteries. To install your battery you will need to connect it up and position it inside the hollow in the stock, then mount the stock and replace the rear pin. We recommend an 11.1V 1400mAh LiPo for the StG-44 for ease of installation and to get the most out of its pre-upgraded internals.
