On the outside, the JW2 is a 1:1 match for the real steel, boasting the correct smooth profiled 14.5-inch barrel, BCM KMR Alpha style 13" KeyMod handguard, VLTOR style MUR-1 upper receiver, Aero style M4E1 lower receiver complete with TTI markings and a highly detailed replica of the TTI GM Interceptor Compensator at the tip, furnishing the JW2 with its distinctly aggressive aesthetic.

Being pre-upgraded with the CYMA Platinum MOSFET, a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, a high speed motor and a reinforced version 2 gearbox absolutely brimming with enhanced gearbox internals, the EMG JW2 is as slick on the inside as it is externally and will certainly bring the heat when it comes to exchanging plastic with your skirmish foes. To pair with a John Wick pistol or otherwise, the JW2 M4/AR-15 would make a fantastic primary for a skirmisher who needs ranged performance in a platform that points quickly and handles perfectly.

Starting at the front, we have a flawlessly machined TTI GM Interceptor Compensator replica complete with a recessed Taran Tactical "TTI" logo engraved on its upper surface. The multi-port design of this compensator gives the JW2 a menacing look and leans into its competition shooting origins, though it can be replaced with a tracer unit or suppressor thanks to the 14mm CCW male threading at the outer barrel's tip. Just remember to remove the grub screw before attempting to unscrew the compensator, otherwise, you will damage the barrel threads.

The outer barrel itself is constructed from alloy and is the correct smooth profiled design to suit a high end civilian AR build. Mounted to the barrel and hidden beneath the handguard we are treated to a dummy gas tube and gas block, completing the realistic looks of the JW2 and giving the stitch counters what they demand. The gas block and gas tube serve no function in an Airsoft AEG but as anyone familiar with the M4/AR-15 platform will know, they are an essential working part of the real rifle and thus, essential for any replica with an emphasis on realism.

The handguard replicates the real steel BCM KMR Alpha handguard, matching the real steel JW2 build perfectly and offering KeyMod negative space attachment slots at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions with additional slots at the offset angles for even more accessory mounting options. Offset KeyMod slots mean you can mount a flashlight so that it sits tighter to the handguard, reducing snag potential and saving you a few quid by avoiding the need for an offset light mount. The top of the handguard also features a 20mm Picatinny rail which meets the receiver rail seamlessly and is even keyed into the upper for a rock solid feel and absolutely no chance of the handguard developing wobble or loosening over time.

Moving on to the receiver, we can see a familiar silhouette; the eternal M4/AR-15 receiver. This receiver provides the familiar feel any AR user will appreciate but both the upper and lower receivers are patterned after real steel enhanced receivers. The upper receiver is based on the VLTOR MUR-1, a modernised AR receiver with weight reduction and strength improvements built in, along with the angled surfaces that mark it out as an enhanced upper. The lower receiver is patterned after the real steel Aero M4E1 lower, boasting a reprofiled magazine catch fence, a flared magazine well and a built-in enlarged trigger guard for strength improvements and easy trigger access when wearing gloves.

As we might well expect for a licenced TTI design, both the upper and lower receiver are adorned with TTI trademarks. The TTI logo is displayed prominently on the right side of the magazine well and on both sides of the upper, and an additional engraved TTI logo along with the model number and real steel calibre are displayed on the left side of the mag well.

The markings on the magazine well read "MOD: TR-1" with "CAL: MULTI" engraved just below. Just above the fire selector switch on the left side, we have yet more realistic trademarks reading "TARAN TACTICAL INNOVATIONS" with "SIMI VALLEY, CA" below. The only external hint that the JW2 is an Airsoft replica is the unique serial number found below the calibre marking, reading "CYMA" with your unique serial following after in laser engraved white.

As far as layout is concerned, the controls of the JW2 are right where we would expect them. The fire selector is positioned on the left side of the lower receiver, just above the pistol grip, and has a 90-degree throw between each mode with SAFE - FIRE - AUTO markings to indicate your current mode.

The magazine release is over on the right side, being the standard M4/AR-15 push button design sitting well within reach of the shooter's trigger finger when the rifle is held in a firing grip. The dummy bolt catch is located on the centre left of the receiver, taking the form of the standard AR "ping pong paddle" catch, and is functional in that it allows you to drop the mock bolt carrier with a satisfying "clank" following HOP-up adjustment.

The charging handle is located at the top rear of the receiver and is an ambidextrous design, functional when pulled from either the left or right side of the rifle. Pulling the charging handle will open the dust cover on the right side of the upper receiver and retract the mock bolt carrier, revealing the alloy rotary adjustable HOP-up unit.

The HOP-up allows you to tune the JW2 for different ammo weights and extend your range, seeking the flattest possible trajectory. As mentioned, when your HOP-up adjustment is applied you can release the mock bolt using the bolt catch. The mock bolt itself is finished in TTI's iconic metallic bronze, adding a nice bit of visual interest to the design and making the JW2 the perfect pairing for a JW2, JW3 or JW4 pistol.

The furniture of the JW2 represents all of the best in 21st-century rifle ergonomics. The BCM-style pistol grip boasts textured sides and linear texture on the front, a more vertical angle than standard AR grips and a filled-out back strap to effectively support the hand and encourage a consistent shooting position. The refined grip angle means you will experience less wrist strain when shooting with the stock collapsed all the way and comfort with modern "square" shooting stances is considerably improved when compared to the old "A2" M4 pistol grip. The BCM grip also features on the on-screen JW2 rifle, fitting in nicely with the rest of the JW2's authentic details.

The stock is a modernised low-profile design with an ambidextrous QD sling socket built-in, allowing you to fit a QD sling swivel and mount a modern, quick detachable sling setup. The rubber butt plate allows the stock to lock firmly to any body armour or tactical vest you are using so you can shoulder the JW2 with confidence, and also improves wet weather traction so you never slip off target when skirmishing in the lovely British weather.

To provide a comfortable cheek weld, the cheek piece is sloped similarly to the M4 Crane stock and this also has the added benefit of providing extra battery space so you can run the JW2 all day on a single battery. The low profile adjustment lever is located on the bottom of the stock, at the front, and needs to be held down to slide the stock into your desired position of adjustment. The pre-installed M4/AR-15 buffer tube allows for 6 different positions of adjustment, meaning you can set the stock for the perfect length of pull to suit your body type, stance and loadout.

Accessing the battery compartment of the JW2 is remarkably easy; all you need to do is pull the catch on the centre of the butt plate down and the butt plate will hinge open. Inside you will find a Deans battery connector to which you mount your chosen battery. We recommend an 11.1V 1450mAh LiPo battery for an easy fit and great performance, though you may be able to fit a larger battery inside if you are careful when installing it.

Tuning and Internal Upgrades by Bolster Armouries 

As with previous Bolster Tuned builds (formerly known as Patrol Base X Gate ASTER edition), this isn't your usual upgraded AEG. The Bolster Armouries tech team fully disassemble each of these AEGs down to every screw, bolt and bushing to perfectly tune the internals, polish the piston tracks and bearing holes, shim the gears to absolute perfection and replace parts to address the weak points in the original platform. The Bolster techs treat these AEGs like they are building them for themselves, and if it doesn't pass their rigorous checks, which include a 60m accuracy test, it goes back to the bench for more work.

The Gate ASTER MOSFET is the star of the show, replacing the basic CYMA MOSFET in the original with an alternative with enough computing power that it could put men on the moon. The ASTER boasts programmable fire controls through the Gate Control Station app, Gate Blu-Link or Gate USB Link, adjustable pre-cocking for a ferocious trigger response in semi-auto, cycle timing control, adaptive active braking, adjustable trigger sensitivity, and voltage control, all of which combine to give this gorgeously built licenced replica a wealth of functionality that is hard to beat.

Installing the ASTER requires modification of the gearbox shell and selector plate for compatibility with the ASTER's optical sensors. Copper is no longer used on the selector plate, and is instead replaced with an ASTER sticker to allow the optical sensors to detect its position, and adjust the fire mode accordingly. This has the benefit of being more reliable than a traditional selector plate, as the use of optical sensors takes corrosion which usually develops on electrical contacts out of the equation completely.

In the latest line of Bolster Tuned custom AEGs, the ASTER is paired with its perfect partner; the Gate Quantum Flat Blade Trigger. The Quantum is constructed from CNC machined aluminium and is finished with a metallic yellow anodised coating, adding a bit of subtle flair to the JW2 in line with its 3-Gun origins.

The combination of the Quantum and ASTER gives you access to an impressive 250 different trigger sensitivity options, from a hair trigger all the way up to a more realistic full trigger pull. Designed to eliminate the need for mechanical trigger linkage, instead relying on the ASTER's optical sensors, the Quantum is probably the best trigger on the market for an AEG and is a vast improvement over the standard JW2 trigger.

Known for innovation and pushing the limits of Airsoft performance, Warhead Industries provides the motor for the Bolster Tuned JW2; utilizing the most up-to-date technology to provide a previously unheard of torque to weight ratio, and impressive heat dispersion.

The motor installed is the Warhead Base 27K Brushless Motor, offering a super speedy motor which uses high strength, SH-rated Neodymium magnets. Being a brushless motor, the Warhead Base simply doesn't heat up as the only friction generated inside is with the air, keeping this cool and allowing you to let off some seriously long bursts guilt-free. The Warhead moves the JW2 up to the next level of Airsoft performance and puts it hot on the heels of the full-fat Bolster Armouries ONYX, ARKOSE, ATLAS and OBIRE builds.

With an astonishing rate of fire as the goal, both the tappet plate and nozzle needed replacing to give the Bolster Tuned JW2 incredible performance which will last a lifetime. The FPS Softair's Carbon Fibre Reinforced tappet plate paired with its O-ring equipped air nozzle ensures feeding is consistent and nozzle alignment is flawless, allowing you to dump mag after mag with the assurance you aren't pushing the AEG beyond its design parameters.

As with previous Bolster Tuned builds, the CYMA 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel has been thoroughly cleaned and polished to perfection. Not being the types to trust Chinese quality control, the Bolster techs inspect every barrel for imperfections and once each platform is built, it is put through a 60m meter accuracy test, and if it can't meet the mark it goes back to the bench for more work. Even tight-bore barrels can have internal flaws which affect accuracy when mass-produced, and the internal overhaul given to the Bolster Tuned JW2 guarantees that you will get a good, smooth barrel with a flawless inner surface.

To aid in getting the JW2 to hit that 60m benchmark, the Bolster team has added their favourite HOP-up rubber into the mix; the Laylax/Prometheus Purple HOP-up bucking and nub, also known as the "Prommy Purple". Naturally, these guys cannot touch an AEG without installing the phenomenal Prometheus Purple HOP-up bucking and nub inside! The Prometheus bucking is based on the original Tokyo Marui design but comprised of more hard-wearing and temperature-resistant materials and is a big part of what allows the Tuned JW2 to absolutely destroy the original when it comes to range and accuracy.

The Bolster Armouries M115 spring is fitted; manufactured to the exact specifications of the Bolster team to provide the perfect velocity for either indoor or outdoor skirmishes, giving us a healthy 347 FPS with perfect consistency. Also present in the build are Bolster Armouries Sector Gear Screws, joining the two pieces of the sector gear together, replacing tiny parts many manufacturers skimp out on.

Bolster Armouries EZO Bearings, manufactured by Sapparo Precision Inc. in Japan, specialists in miniature ball bearings, replace the original CYMA bearings, improving the lifespan of the JW2 by adding stronger bearings to cope with additional stress placed on the gears. EZO Bearings perfectly combine low friction with high strength and are a great alternative to standard ball bearing bushings which can often break when subjected to minigun-like rates of fire.

The tuning process results in an AEG that hits out far further and faster than the original CYMA; with a 60m+ effective range with the HOP-up set using G&G Competition Grade 0.28G BBs and a phenomenal 25 rounds per second with an 11.1V LiPo battery. What makes this even better is that the installation of the many upgrade parts in a Bolster Tuned build does not result in you losing your 12-month warranty.

Other techs rarely offer a warranty on their jobs and this often means that your upgraded gun shoots amazingly for its first few months but after that, you are on your own.
