Description
Whether you're rocking Flecktarn seeking a primary to suit a Cold War Bundeswehr loadout, or you love an iconic battle rifle replica, the Classic Army CA-A3 G3A3 AEG is one to watch. A full metal build with high-quality olive green polymer furniture, this build is solid as a rock and is much lighter and more agile than its size might suggest.
Inside, the CA-A3 is equipped with a version 2 gearbox with an alloy shell, 18:1 ratio steel gears and 9mm ball bearing bushings. An in-line MOSFET is also included, designed to eliminate trigger lockups and enhance electrical efficiency. Everything inside is TM spec, meaning if you had a G3 DMR build planned, this would make a fantastic base gun!
Starting at the tip of the alloy outer barrel, we can find the appropriate G3A3 style birdcage flash hider, made from steel and mounted to the barrel's 14mm CCW male threads. This is the classic G3 muzzle device and looks right at home, but if you have other ideas, you can mount anything which fits 14mm CCW male threads, including tracer units, suppressors and alternative flash hiders. Following the flash hider, we can see the alloy outer barrel and its slight taper towards the receiver, matching the silhouette of the real rifle's barrel for the prerequisite realism we expect from an Airsoft AEG.
The front sight of the CA-A3 is mounted at the front of the cocking tube and handguard; the classic hooded HK front sight design, which pairs perfectly with the rotary drum diopter-style rear iron sight, found at the rear of the receiver. The rear sight offers 4 different apertures for aiming, marked 1-4 in 100-meter increments. This gives you the flexibility to put rounds on target in any ambient lighting condition and choose from an open sight notch, ideal for close range or an enclosed aperture, optimal for accurate semi-auto fire. To select your sight aperture, simply turn the drum using the helpful texturing around its circumference. The rear sight is also adjustable for windage via the screw on the right side.
Moving rearwards, we come to the cocking tube of the CA-A3, which contains the AEG's folding cocking handle. Pulling this handle rearwards and locking it up into the "safety notch" will retract the mock bolt carrier, found over on the right side of the AEG, and reveal the rotary HOP-up adjuster. The HOP-up allows the user to tune the CA-A3 for different ammo weights and vary the amount of backspin applied to each BB, looking for the flattest trajectory possible.
The handguard lies just below the cocking tube, and is the real-world accurate slim ribbed G3 handguard, issued with the G3A3 to the German Bundeswehr throughout the Cold War. The slim design of this handguard is very comfortable in the hand, and also includes two holes at the 6 o'clock position, which can be used to mount a 20mm Picatinny rail if you want to add a vertical foregrip. A big part of the iconic G3A3 look, the handguard is finished in olive drab, perfectly matching the German Issue version and helping break up the outline of the rifle for improved concealment qualities.
Following the handguard, we reach the receiver, which is constructed from alloy with a realistic-looking phosphate finish (aka parkerized). The receiver includes mounting lugs on its upper surface, which are designed for HK claw mounts. If you want to hone the CA-A3 for long range and add a telescopic sight or red dot sight, you can with a 20mm Picatinny claw mount. Running along either side of the receiver, we can see the stock sliding recesses, which allow this G3 to be equipped with a sliding stock if you want a more compact package.
The lower receiver is known as the "trigger pack" in SMG-5 and G3 rifles and is constructed from alloy with a polymer grip module, just like the real thing. The 3-position fire selector is positioned on the left side, offering a SAFE - SEMI - AUTO configuration marked in German Style using "S-E-F" (Sicher - Einzelfeuer - Feuerstoß) lettering. The selector sits comfortably within reach of the shooter's thumb. The pistol grip module has ergonomic finger ridges built in, just like the real G3A3, moulded in olive drab polymer to match the other furniture. The trigger guard is nice and large, allowing for ease of use with full finger gloves, which is important as those finger shots hurt like *beep*!
The magazine release works similarly to an SMG-5 and includes a centrally positioned ambidextrous paddle magazine release and a secondary push button release on the right side, which is similar to an M4/AR-15. This gives you plenty of options for manipulating the G3A3. Whether you have an AK or AR background, or you are new to the game, you will have no issues making this rifle work for you.
At the rear of the receiver, we come to the stock of the CA-A3, which is constructed from olive drab polymer to match the handguard and the real G3A3. The stock includes a sling slot on the right side, which can be paired with the front sling point on the front sight block to set the CA-A3 up with a two-point rifle sling. The stock also houses the battery of the CA-A3, which can be installed by pulling the rubber butt plate downwards, after which it should come off.
Inside, you will find a mini-Tamiya battery connector to which you connect your battery of choice. For the CA-A3, we recommend a 7.4V 2600mAh LiPo battery for easy installation and a good fit. The mini-Tamiya connector is fitted to a Deans connector mounted to the MOSFET, so you can use a Deans battery if you remove the mini-Tamiya adapter.
Inside, the CA-A3 is fitted with an alloy version 2 gearbox with 18:1 steel gears running on 9mm ball bearing bushings, reducing internal friction for a smooth, unlaboured gearbox sound. An in-line MOSFET improves electrical efficiency and cranks up trigger response, preventing trigger lockups which can occur with standard trigger contacts. All internal parts, including the HOP-up and inner barrel, are Tokyo Marui-spec, meaning aftermarket upgrades are practically unlimited; perfect for those who dream of a G3 DMR build!
Whether your next build will be a realistic Cold War-era DMR or you're into the classic looks of one of the world's most iconic battle rifles, the Classic Army CA-A3 G3A3 AEG will put a big smile on your face. A solid full metal build, which is far lighter than it looks, the CA G3A3 is the perfect primary for the skirmisher who prefers a retro rifle!

Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
