Description
A lightweight, CQB-optimised PDW build, the Classic Army M4/AR-15 ECS SBR AEG is ideal for those seeking an ultra-compact AR with a modern, mission-ready featureset. On the outside, the ECS SBR is rocking an M-LOK/20mm Picatinny hybrid handguard, 14mm CCW male threaded outer barrel, and 20mm Picatinny railed receiver, ready to be kitted out however you like it!
Inside, this minute but mighty platform is based around a TM-spec version 2 gearbox with an alloy shell, 21:1 ratio high-torque gears running on 9mm ball bearing bushings with low resistance wiring for maximum electrical efficiency. Also inside is the ECS programmable MOSFET/ETU, offering 3 or 5 round burst mode options and semi-auto only, just in case you want to make the world's smallest DMR!
Starting at the front, we can find a polymer AAC-style three-prong flash hider mounted to the 14mm CCW male threading at the tip of the alloy outer barrel. This means you can rock a tracer unit or suppressor easily, an essential for intimidation factor and instinctive aiming in CQB.
The handguard follows directly behind, made from strong high-density polymer with M-LOK accessory slots on the sides and 20mm Picatinny rails on the top and bottom, ready to be dressed up. The sides also feature short lengths of 20mm Picatinny rail in the ideal spots for mounting a tactical flashlight, along with steel QD sling sockets, ready for a QD sling swivel to be mounted. While this short handguard doesn't have an unlimited amount of space, you'll definitely be able to fit your mission essentials on board, whether it's a simple vertical grip or a PEQ laser, tactical flashlight, and grip all at once.
Moving rearwards, we come to the receiver, which is a modernised "VLTR" style design with a standard fire controls layout. The fire selector is just above the pistol grip, offering 3 modes of fire in SAFE-SEMI-AUTO configuration with a 90-degree throw between each mode. Naturally, with the ECS on board, you can program the selector positions for different fire mode combinations, including 3 or 5 round burst mode.
The pistol grip is a modern, ergonomic design with a filled-out backstrap and a comfortable, rounded profile, an extremely comfortable grip design, whether you wear gloves in game or take your chances with knuckle shots! The trigger is a flat-faced design with a finger ledge to avoid slippage and texture on its surface to encourage consistent trigger finger positioning. The trigger guard is a standard M4/AR-15 flat type, but can be replaced with aftermarket enlarged trigger guards for M4/AR-15 AEGs if you need a bit more space.
The magazine release is on the right side of the receiver, a push-through button easily reached from a firing grip with the trigger finger. This can also be swapped out for an ambidextrous mag release, but certain brands may require mods. The charging handle, located at the top rear of the receiver, is an ambidextrous design which can be racked from either side, either just for fun or to access the Rotary adjustable HOP-up unit.
With the charging handle pulled and held back, the dust cover will spring open and the mock bolt will retract, revealing the Rotary HOP-up adjuster inside. The HOP-up allows you to tune the amount of backspin applied to your BBs and adjust for different ammo weights, seeking the flattest possible trajectory. The Rotary design is the most up-to-date M4/AR-15 HOP-up design, benefiting from improved setting retention under the vibrations of full auto fire and being able to adjust in finer increments than the older "gear" style adjuster.
Running along the top of the receiver, we are equipped with a 20mm Picatinny rail, which seamlessly mates with the handguard rail, providing plenty of space for your choice of red dot sight or scope. Pre-installed on the top rail, the ECS SBR includes a set of Troy-style flip-up iron sights which offer tool-less windage adjustment on the rear sight and two aiming apertures, a larger one for low light shooting and full auto fire and a finer aperture designed for bright conditions and accurate semi-auto fire. These sights are rail-mounted and removable, but can also be used as backup sights even if you run an optic. To deploy the sights, simply press the button on the left side of each sight and raise them into place.
To keep realism where it needs to be, the ECS SBR also includes a dummy bolt catch on the left side of the receiver and a dummy forward assist button on the right side of the upper receiver. These controls don't function, but are separate parts to avoid the telltale signs of being a replica. The lower receiver profile is a standard "A2" style, but the upper is patterned after the VLTR MUR upper, complete with flat and angled surfaces and pairing well with the modern aesthetic of the ECS SBR overall.
Following the receiver, we come to the unique PDW-style sliding stock with impressive battery space. The stock boasts 2 adjustment positions and can be set to your length of choice via the prominent textured adjustment lever on the bottom. The stock bars are constructed from steel to add strength where needed, and the butt plate is made from alloy with a grippy, serrated contact surface.
The battery compartment can be accessed by setting the stock at its longest position and pulling the sliding catch on the rear of the buffer tube down. This allows the bottom of the tube to come free, revealing the Mini-Tamiya battery connector inside. We recommend a 7.4V 1100mAh LiPo stick battery for easy installation, though you can just about fit a 7.4V 1300mAh nun-chuck LiPo inside as long as you're careful not to trap the wiring or squash your battery. This generous battery space is very rare for a PDW stock, which often requires 600-900mAh batteries at maximum. The ECS SBR gives you the compact CQB-optimised form of a PDW stock with almost double the battery space!
Inside, the ECS SBR is based around a Tokyo Marui-spec V2 gearbox, meaning aftermarket upgrades are a go. The pre-installed gearset is made from steel, a 21:1 ratio high-torque gearset which provides an impressive trigger response, just what a CQB optimised build needs. The gears run on 9mm ball bearing bushings, reducing gearbox noise and preventing excessive wear to the gearbox shell and gear axles.
The ECS ETU is the star of the show, providing programmable fire modes including 3 or 5 round burst and semi-auto only, along with protecting your motor and battery from excessively high and low voltages. The ECS can be programmed in one of five different fire mode configurations. Find out how to do this in the "Special Instructions" below or by reading the included user manual.
If you need an ultra-light CQB primary with impressive stuff under the hood, the Classic Army M4/AR-15 ECS SBR AEG is one to watch. Ready to rock with the most modern accessories, and as useful as a sniper's backup, as it is a primary for kissing-distance engagements, the ECS SBR really brings the heat!

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
