Description

If you like ergonomic and cold-weather-ready sidearms, the Cybergun FN Herstal FN 509® CO2 GBB Pistol is an excellent choice. The latest service pistol design from firearms legends FN Herstal, the 509 boasts ambidextrous controls, anti-glare open sights, a threaded outer barrel and a 20mm Picatinny frame rail. This pistol is ready for battle!

Being licensed by FN Herstal via Cybergun, the FN 509® boasts authentic trademarks across the design, including flawlessly engraved slide markings and FN Herstal logo stamps on either side of the grip. Inside, we are treated to a dual recoil spring and dual nozzle spring for enhanced recoil and a boost in cyclic speed, along with steel sears and a steel disconnector to guarantee long-term reliability. If you like slick, modern sidearms which stand out, you'll love the Cybergun FN Herstal FN 509® Tactical GBB Pistol!

Starting at the front, we find the threaded outer barrel. It has 12mm CW male outer barrel threading. This means you can kit the FN 509 out with a tracer or suppressor of your choice, though we recommend sticking to the shortest and lightest devices you can find to preserve gas efficiency. The outer barrel itself is made from alloy and is a tilting design similar to the legendary Glock platform.

The slide itself features dynamic angled serrations at the front and rear, allowing you to easily manipulate the slide in wet weather or when wearing gloves. On the left side, we are treated to an engraved FN logo roundel, with "509" engraved just aft. These markings perfectly match the real deal, giving us the realism we expect from a licensed Cybergun platform. Up top, we have a set of anti-glare iron sights.

The HOP-up unit can be accessed with the slide removed. This requires you to rack the pistol all the way back, as far as possible. Then rotate the lever above the trigger clockwise 90 degrees and push the slide forward. With the slide removed, you can see the unique HOP adjuster on the outer barrel.

Moving down to the frame, we can find a full 20mm Picatinny rail on the dust cover, ideally placed for a tactical flashlight or laser aiming module. This full rail has the advantage of providing 4 rail slots for mounting and maintains the proper Picatinny profile, offering broader compatibility with accessories than the usual single-slot pistol rail. Above the rail on the right side of the frame, we can find "Licensed by FN Herstal" in discrete recessed text.

There is a switch present on the frame, beneath the Picatinny rail sections. This switch can be pushed rearwards to lock the trigger of this sidearm so it cannot be shot at all. This is ideal if you are travelling with the pistol loaded or when you are in the safe zone before skirmishing.

Behind the frame rail, we come to the trigger guard, which is an enlarged design ideal for gloved shooters, a similar shape to that of the FN FNX-45. The trigger itself is a "two-stage" safety trigger similar to that of M&P pistols, preventing the pistol from discharging if the lower section of the trigger is not pressed.

The magazine release is an impressive innovation; an ambidextrous push-through button which works from either side, without needing to swap parts. This makes the FN 509® a superb choice for left-handed shooters who don't want to be at an ergonomic disadvantage running a sidearm. The mag release is protected from accidental activation by a raised "fence" and has a textured surface for ease of use in wet weather.

The pistol grip is a super comfortable ergonomic shape, including pyramidal texture on the sides, serrations on the front and rear and a stippled section functioning as a thumb index point. With the FN 509 held in a firing grip, the pistol feels positively locked in your hands, with texture where needed for superb gripping qualities. Like other modern semi-automatic pistol designs, the backstrap of the grip is removable and can be swapped out for the included slim backstrap, ideal for users with smaller hands.

Whether you're after a less common sidearm packed with modern features or you collect licensed replicas and don't yet have a 509, Cybergun's FN Herstal FN 509® Tactical GBB Pistol will be an asset to your arsenal. A top-notch build with impressive recoil and plenty of extra bits included in the box, the FN 509® is FN's Glock killer!
