If you're into the AK look but want to deck your build out with accessories, the CYMA CM.028A AK-47 Tactical AEG is a fine choice! Designed to mimic real steel AK rifles used by PMCs during the Global War on Terror era, the CM.028A comes in a "Tactical" configuration, equipped with a 20mm Picatinny railed handguard and 14mm CCW threaded barrel to attach your favourite accessories.

Inside, the CM.028A is based around an alloy Version 3 gearbox with TM spec internals, compatible with a wide range of aftermarket upgrades. As it comes, we're equipped with 18:1 ratio steel gears running on 7mm steel bushings, a quick change spring guide for easy power tuning and a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, providing an FPS boost and improved accuracy potential with high quality ammo.

Made from a mix of high-density polymer, alloy and steel, the CM.028A is the perfect happy medium between hefty full steel AK builds, which are a challenge to run, and full high-density polymer builds, which feel less realistic in the hands. If you're feeling the AK vibe but don't want to work too hard on the field, the CYMA CM.028A AK-47 Tactical AEG should be your next primary!

Description

If you're looking for the iconic AK look but want to mount Western accessories, the CYMA CM.028A AK-47 Tactical AEG is the way to go! Inspired by real steel "Tactical" AKs used by Private Military Contractors (PMCs) in Iraq and Afghanistan, the CM.028A features a 20mm Picatinny-railed handguard, ready for a forward-mounted red dot sight, tactical flashlight, aiming laser or vertical grip!

Inside, the CM.028A is based around an alloy TM-spec Version 3 gearbox, equipped with steel 18:1 ratio gears running on 7mm steel bushings and a ball bearing-equipped piston head to reduce wear over time. The inner barrel is also a 6.03mm tightbore, meaning a slight boost in FPS and improved accuracy potential with high-quality BBs. If you're after a cheap, mission-ready AK AEG, the CYMA CM.028A AK-47 Tactical AEG has your name on it!

The outer barrel of the CM.028A is constructed from alloy, providing stability and rigidity where it is needed. This also helps add some realistic weight and handling to the AEG, giving it a more balanced feel. That said, the CM.028A is easy to move with and definitely not overburdening for most, tipping the scales at 2.65 kg, right in the ballpark of comparable M4/AR-15 and AR-36 AEGs. The front sight is mounted to the tip of the outer barrel and is a perfect match for the real AK-47; a fine front sight post protected on each side with protective wings.

As we move rearward, we encounter the dummy gas block and gas tube, which are realistically styled after the original AK-47 production variant, the Type 3. The gas tube includes mock vents and an alloy sling loop mounted to the barrel on the left side, which is designed for "hook" type slings and can be paired with the sling point on the receiver to mount a two-point sling. Below the barrel, we can find a realistic dummy cleaning rod which attaches to the front sight block and gas block, completing that classic AK-47 look. The cleaning rod is too wide for use on an Airsoft AEG, but not to worry, the CM.028A includes a polymer cleaning and unjamming rod in the box!

To the rear of the gas block, we can find the polymer handguards, which are of a modern tactical style with vent holes and integrated 20mm Picatinny accessory rails. These rails allow any accessories designed for 20mm Picatinny/RIS to be attached in whatever configuration suits you. The top and bottom rails cover the full length of the handguard, and the side rails provide just enough space to mount a tactical flashlight or PEQ laser unit.

Real-world examples of this AK configuration often use the top rail of the handguard to mount a reflex/red dot sight for rapid target acquisition, as do those seen in the famous Barrett 50 cal scene inThe Hurt Locker(2008). The rails also provide an area to mount a vertical foregrip for improved handling in CQB.

Next up, we reach the trunnion block and receiver, within which lies the metal version 3 gearbox providing the CM.028A all of its shooty goodness. The rear sight can be found atop the trunnion block and can be adjusted for different ranges using the slider attached to the sight itself, without using any tools. This sight is a U-notch open sight, a style of sight which has its advantages; predominantly not restricting your field of view in the way an aperture sight would, allowing you to track fast-moving, close-range targets more effectively.

The receiver of the CM.028A is constructed from polymer, with a smooth matt black finish. The left side of the receiver features realistic mock pins and rivets, as well as a weight-reducing groove, which is present on either side and is one of the tell-tale signs that this is an early-style AK variant, replicating the AK-47 Type 3 receiver faithfully. At the rear of the left side of the receiver, we can find our second sling point, constructed from alloy and attached to the inside of the polymer receiver. This sling point allows some flexibility, ensuring that with a two-point sling installed, you can carry the rifle comfortably without the sling snagging.

Moving to the right side of the receiver, we can find the mock bolt carrier, which can be pulled back and released, providing a satisfying "clack". Though this is not necessary to operate the CM.028A, it is a nice touch of added realism. With the charging handle held back, we can find the slider adjuster for the CM.028A's adjustable HOP up unit. This device allows backspin to be applied to your BBs, stabilising them whilst extending their range and improving their resistance to wind. The HOP-up unit can be adjusted and set for a wide range of BB weights, depending on your individual requirements and whether you play outdoors or in tight CQB sites. We recommend choosing 0.25g BBs, which are perfect for both indoor and outdoor skirmishes.

Moving back towards the controls, we can find one of the most "AK-47-y" of this AK-47 replica's features; its fire selector lever. The fire selector is configured in classic AK style, doubling as a dust cover, with the first position being "Safe", the middle position being fully automatic, and the lowermost position indicating the semi-automatic mode. The fire selector is constructed from steel for added strength on this often-used component. The fire selector markings are moulded into the receiver, with authentic Russian Cyrillic letters denoting each mode.

At the bottom of the receiver, we can find the magazine well, magazine catch, trigger guard, and pistol grip. The pistol grip is an ergonomic finger-rigged type, providing ample support for the web of the hand, including texturing to assist in handling the CM.028A in wet weather. The trigger guard is enlarged to allow for thick gloves to be used; an essential feature considering the AK-47's country of birth!

The magazine release can be found in front of the trigger guard; a paddle-type release which is accessible from either side, making it useful for both left and right-handed shooters. The magazine insertion method for the AK47 is "rock and lock" style, requiring the front of the magazine to be indexed inside the magwell first, after which you can rock the magazine rearwards and engage the mag catch, locking the magazine in place. If you're struggling, check out our video: How to Load an Airsoft AK.

The CM.028A is packaged with a 525rnd High-capacity magazine, which can be filled through the fill window on the top of the magazine body and tensioned via the winding wheel on the bottom. Wind the wheel 5-10 times or until you hear the noise change, after which you can insert the mag and get busy!

At the rear of the CM.028A, we are equipped with a fixed stock constructed from black high-density polymer. The battery compartment is inside the stock and accessible by pushing the butt plate down, after which it should pop off. Inside, you'll find a mini-Tamiya battery connector to which you connect your battery. We recommend either a 9.6V 1600mAh NiMh battery or a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo battery, both in "block" configuration.
