The Real Heckler & Koch G36C Assault Rifle
Designed to replace the ageing G3 battle rifle in German Bundeswehr service, the H&K G36 was designed in the early 1990s and entered service in 1997. A futuristic, lightweight rifle which had everything going for it, the G36 was a big hit with European Militaries seeking to replace Cold War-era battle rifles, and also became a popular choice for law enforcement, particularly UK Armed Police units.
The G36 is made using ultra-modern techniques with a PA66 Nylon fibre exterior frame and a steel subframe. This significantly reduced weight and improved both drop and corrosion resistance compared to traditional rifles. Its free-floated barrel gave it excellent accuracy, and its modular design allowed accessory rails, grenade launchers and integrated optical sights to be fitted to suit the client.
Later in its life, the G36 became the subject of controversy, resulting in a court battle between H&K and the German government, who claimed the G36 became inaccurate after several hundred rounds were fired rapidly. This was later proven false, and it was noted that the Bundeswehr requested a light profile barrel, which isn't designed for sustained fire. Other users have reportedly been very satisfied, and the G36 continues to serve with the Spanish Army, Saudi Military, the Hong Kong SDU and several US SWAT teams without issue.
Platform Details
Starting at the front, we can find a polymer G36C four-prong flash hider at the tip of the alloy outer barrel. The flash hider isn't threaded, but if you remove the grub screw on the left side, it can be pulled straight off, revealing 14mm CCW male barrel threading beneath. The barrel threading means you can mount tracer units and suppressors to customise your G36 build.
Please note that suppressors with a particularly wide diameter (32mm +) may require a short barrel extension to clear the handguard. The grub screw is hard to access with the handguard installed, so if you need to switch muzzle devices, we recommend removing the handguard by pushing its retention pin out and sliding it off towards the front of the platform.
Removing the handguard also provides access to the G36C's battery compartment, which is well-suited to a slim nunchuck-configuration battery. The pre-installed connector is the Deans type, and we recommend a 11.1V 1300mAh LiPo for an easy fit and great performance.
The handguard itself is made from high-density polymer, keeping the build in line with the materials used on the real G36C. At the front, we can find a hand stop which features sling points on either side, ready for a two-point sling. On the bottom and sides, the handguard is equipped with 20mm Picatinny rails, allowing accessories to be fitted wherever you need them. The rails can also be removed if you prefer a sleeker look and a lighter-feeling front end.
Next up, we arrive at the receiver, made from high-density polymer with ambidextrous controls throughout. This makes the G36C platform a fantastic choice for left- or right-handed shooters, offering mirrored or centrally placed fire controls so you can operate the platform with ease from either shoulder.
The fire selector switch is just above the pistol grip, offering 3 fire modes: safe, semi-automatic and fully automatic, with a 45-degree throw between each. This makes the selector switch fast and easy to operate under pressure, whether you prefer to work the selector with your trigger finger or thumb.
Each mode is denoted with iconic H&K pictograms, with a crossed-out projectile in white to indicate safe mode, a single red projectile in a closed box for semi-auto and a line of projectiles in an open box for fully automatic. These pictograms have been used on all H&K firearms since the venerable MP5, and are a big part of the Heckler & Koch aesthetic.
The magazine release is centrally positioned at the rear of the magazine well, a paddle-style release which works similarly to an AK. Its central position makes it easy to access from either side, and the paddle design allows for "mag-flip" emergency reloads, provided you're okay with potentially damaging your mags.
The trigger guard is built into the trigger pack/grip assembly, boasting an enlarged design which allows easy access to the trigger, even when wearing full-finger gloves. The trigger itself is a curved design which closely matches the real steel G36, and just in front of the trigger, we're equipped with a mock bolt lock button. This button doesn't serve a function in an Airsoft replica, but in the real steel, it allows the user to lock the bolt back for malfunction clearance and chamber inspection.
Mounted to the top of the receiver, we are treated to a lengthy 20mm Picatinny rail mounted to the G36's unique receiver lugs. This rail means you can mount a 20mm Picatinny-compatible optical sight setup of your choice, from magnified rifle scopes to red dot and magnifier combos. The receiver lugs beneath the rail also allow you to swap it out for alternative G36 optics rails and built-in scopes, with plenty of slick-looking options to choose from.
The rail also features built-in aperture iron sights, with a fixed front post covered by a protective ring and an adjustable rear aperture with two aperture sizes to choose from. Adjustments for windage are applied using the Allen bolt on the right side of the rear sight, and elevation adjustments are input using the screw on the top.
Between the rail and receiver, we can find the ambidextrous charging handle. This design can be folded to either side, but by default, it sits in line with the barrel to reduce snags when not in use. Pulling the charging handle back will retract the mock bolt carrier, revealing the rotary HOP-up adjuster on the right side.
Turning the HOP-up adjuster allows you to vary the amount of backspin applied to your BBs. We recommend adjusting until the trajectory is as flat as possible with your chosen ammo weight.
At the tail end of the G36C, we can find its side folding stock, a skeletonised design made from high-density polymer with a grippy rubber butt plate. To fold the stock, press the button on the left side, after which you can swing the stock around to the right side, where it will lock in place over the mock shell deflector. The stock locks nice and firmly, so you can fold it for a more compressed firing position in CQB without worrying that it will flop around.
The stock also features a sling point at the toe, ideally suited to HK hook-style sling hardware. If you find your sling hook doesn't fit the loop, we recommend using a keyring, a paracord loop or the Emersion Universal Sling Adapter to provide a bit of extra flexibility for different sling mounting hardware.
Internals
Inside, this G36C is the best CYMA currently offers, combining the best of the previous High-Speed Edition with high-end Platinum components. These include 13:1 high-speed gears running on 8mm ball bearing bushings, a CNC aluminium piston head and cylinder head, a polymer piston with a full rack of steel teeth, a stainless steel type 2 cylinder and a steel quick-change spring guide for easy power tuning.
The star of the show is the Kestrel V3 Basic ETU, offering programmable fire modes including 3-round burst and binary trigger, with adjustable pre-cocking so you can crank up trigger response and battery protection to keep everything running smoothly. This impressive internal setup is driven by a powerful high-torque Neodymium magnet motor, resulting in a near-instantaneous trigger response and a downright scary rate of fire.

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
