If you love realism and performance in an iconic platform, the CYMA Platinum Gen.2 CM.041J H&K MP5 A3 AEG should be in your sights. A full-metal replica of the iconic MP5 in its most recognisable "A3" form, the CM.041J boasts CYMA's revamped Gen.2 Platinum internals and official licensing from H&K via Umarex. This means, unlike previous versions, the CM.041J Gen.2 features licensed H&K trademarks to complete the iconic look.

Inside, we're treated to the best internal features CYMA currently has to offer. The reinforced version 2 gearbox features CNC steel 13:1 high-speed gears running on 8mm ball bearing bushings, CNC aluminium compression parts and a steel quick-change spring guide for easy power tuning. The motor is a potent high-torque example and pairs perfectly with the Eshooter Kestrel Basic ETU for a stunning trigger response and an incredible rate of fire.

Used in the real world by all the biggest names, from the SAS to Delta Force, US Navy SEALs, French GIGN and German GSG9, the MP5 is a must-have for anyone who loves iconic special forces platforms. If this sounds like you, you're in good hands with the CYMA Platinum Gen.2 CM.041J H&K MP5 A3 AEG!

The Real Heckler & Koch MP5 A3 Submachine Gun

One of history's most iconic firearms, the Heckler & Koch MP5, originated way back in 1966 as the "HK54", a submachine gun counterpart to the H&K G3 Rifle. By the late 1960s, the renamed "MP5" was in service with the German Federal Border Police and Special Forces, but its finest hour was yet to come.

By the late 1980s, the MP5 had become a counter terrorist icon, having been used by the SAS during Operation Nimrod, aka the Iranian Embassy Siege. The assault on the embassy saw SAS troops using MP5 A3s with top-mounted Maglite flashlights, and was widely televised, resulting in almost every NATO counter terrorist outfit adopting MP5s.

Other famous users include the US Navy SEALs, FBI HRT, Irish Army Rangers, GIGN and GSG9, along with John McClane during the takeover of Nakatomi Towers, and many others in the real and fictional realms. The A3 is probably the most well-known MP5, suitable for a wide range of loadouts and an important part of any Airsofter's collection.

Platform Details

At the tip of the barrel, we have an MP5 QD flash hider that can be quickly removed to access the threaded tri-lug muzzle device beneath. On the left side, we also find our first sling point, which is integral to the front sight block and is perfect for H&K hook-style two-point or three-point slings.

To remove the flash hider, press the textured tab on its outer rim, and it will come straight off. The barrel threading is protected by a knurled thread protector and is threaded to the most common Airsoft standard, 14mm CCW male threads. This means adding a tracer unit or suppressor is no problem if you want a sneaky look or some extra intimidation factor for CQB.

Moving rearwards, we come to the front sight, which is a classic MP5 design with a fixed front post protected from drops with a protective ring which surrounds the sight post. This sight aligns well with the rear rotary drum dioptre aperture sight, found on the rear of the receiver, and is widely known as a fantastically built-in sight system.

The rear sight provides four apertures for aiming, intended for different ranges and ambient lighting conditions, which can easily be switched between thanks to its knurled outer surface. To adjust the rear sight for windage, you can loosen the screw in the base on the right side and slide the rear sight back and forth in its base.

Following the front sight, we come to the handguard, a triangular handguard made from strong high-density polymer. The handguard is held in place with a single pin through the front sight block, and inside, you'll find the battery compartment. The CM.041J is pre-wired to a Deans battery connector, and we recommend an 11.1V 1450mAh LiPo for an easy fit and great performance.

Above the handguard, we come to the cocking tube, constructed from robust alloy with a lovely flat black finish. Within you will find the cocking handle, the classic MP5 handle with a textured surface and ball-style shape.

Pulling the cocking handle rearwards allows it to be locked into its "safety notch", which will open the ejection port on the right side of the receiver to allow for HOP-up adjustment. The HOP-up adjuster is the slider-type, allowing you to tune the amount of backspin applied to your BBs and adjust for your chosen ammo weight.

Once you've completed your HOP-up adjustment, return the charging handle to the forward position by gently guiding it back. While the cocking tube and handle are both made from metal, we don't recommend doing the "H&K slap" with this handle, as it can cause damage to the receiver or the handle itself.

The receiver follows the familiar MP5 format, but with some choice enhancements to help this 60s-era SMG turn and burn in CQB with the more modern stuff. The fire selector is ambidextrous, located just above the pistol grip for fast access.

The super short 45-degree throw between selector modes makes this MP5 extremely fast and easy to switch from safe to fire, and the selector is positioned so the opposite side selector does not dig into your hand when the SMG is set to full auto. Each fire mode is indicated with red and white coloured bullet pictograms, in iconic MP5 style. The trigger of the CM.041J sticks to the original MP5 curved format, blending in well with the real MP5 A3 for an authentic look.

On the top of the receiver, we're treated to built-in lugs which allow H&K Claw-style mounts to be fitted, including 20mm Picatinny rail mounts. This means you can run the MP5 A3 in its classic configuration with a clean look, or add a rail mount to use modern red dot optics and magnified scopes.

Either side of the receiver features grooves which both serve to reinforce it and to allow for the MP5 sliding stock to travel within. The ejection port is located on the right side of the receiver and provides access to the HOP-up unit when the charging handle is locked to the rear. The adjuster is the "slider" type and can be actuated by hand. The adjustable HOP-up allows you to vary the amount of backspin applied to your BBs and tune your AEG for your ammo weight of choice.

As a new edition on the licensed Gen.2 design, the receiver now features H&K trademarks. On either side, you are treated to markings that add to the realism. Over on the left side, near the rear, you can find the H&K logo and "MP5" written next to it in bold white text. Then, on the right side, on the magwell, it reads "Licensed Trademark of Heckler & Koch GmbH". The receiver spine also features recessed "H&K MP5" markings to complete the look.

The CM.041J, like most MP5 AEGs, provides two methods for releasing the magazine. In front of the trigger guard, on the bottom of the AEG, is an ambidextrous paddle-type magazine release, which is the most common way to reload the MP5 platform.

The primary paddle mag release is accessible from either side and can also be actuated using the trigger finger. As an alternative, the CM.041J provides an AR-15-style button release just above the magazine release on the right side, right where you would expect it.

The pistol grip follows a familiar profile, comfortably filling the hand and providing support where it is needed. The material used on the polymer parts of the CM.041J is a textured fibre-reinforced type, similar to the material used on the real version of this AEG, and is rock solid, with no creak, flex or wobble, and a satisfying high-quality feel.

At the rear, we come to the F-style sliding stock, an updated version of the original A3 sliding stock with more adjustment positions and a thicker, more robust butt plate. The F stock was first issued with French GIGN MP5s, but was later offered for all sliding stock variants, including the Japanese MP5J, which this build is inspired by.

Like the original A3 stock, the F stock is adjusted using the paddle between the stock base and butt plate, offering 3 length-of-pull positions. The butt plate is made from body-armour-friendly rubber for enhanced grip, and an extra sling point is built into the toe of the stock.

Internals

The highlight of this licensed MP5 build is its Kestrel Basic ETU/MOSFET, offering 6 levels of adjustable pre-cocking, options for 3-round burst and binary trigger, along with low battery warning, cycle completion, active braking and low/high voltage cutoff. This means you can crank up the trigger response for super-fast double taps or run the CM.041J with SAFE-SEMI-3RND BURST fire controls. Also inside is a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, giving you superb accuracy potential.

The astonishing rate of fire and trigger response of the CM.041J come from the latest CYMA Platinum internals, now upgraded with the V2 GEN-2 gearbox. This reinforced shell features improved bearing seats for enhanced durability under heavy use, while CNC 13:1 high-speed gears with a short-stroke setup deliver rapid cycling and an incredibly snappy trigger response. Paired with a high-torque neodymium motor, the result is fast, efficient and consistent performance straight out of the box.

Internally, a CNC aluminium silent piston and cylinder head set, double O-ring seal and CNC-machined air-seal nozzle ensure excellent air efficiency and shot consistency. The polycarbonate piston with full steel tooth rack, 8mm steel ball bearings and quick-change spring guide round off a robust, high-performance setup. With two magazines included, the CM.041J is ready to dominate with very little left to upgrade.
