Delta Armory R15 FREYA™ Gen.2 14" M-LOK M4/AR-15 AEG; DMR

If you're a FREYA fan who loves landing hits at long range, the Delta Armory R15 FREYA™ Gen.2 14" M-LOK M4/AR-15 AEG; DMR will do the trick! Based on the second generation of Delta Armory's popular FREYA™ line, this AEG is equipped with the same super-slick full metal externals and EAGLE™ MOSFET but with a full complement of internal upgrades, including CNC aluminium parts and CNC steel high-speed gears.

While the FREYA makes a seriously sleek assault rifle primary, we always thought it suited the DMR role, particularly this, the longest version. As such, this build is kitted out with an M120 spring and Prometheus Purple HOP-up Bucking and Nub to give it the performance to match the marksman rifle look.

We recommend running 0.28-0.32g BBs with the FREYA DMR to get the full effect from its higher FPS and upgraded HOP-up parts. Expect approximately 390 FPS using 0.20g BBs from this build and 50m+ accuracy, just what the DMR doctor ordered!

The reinforced version 2 gearbox of the FREYA™ Gen.2 features all of the best bits from Delta's ETU series, including a CNC-machined nozzle, piston head and cylinder head. The gears are CNC machined from steel with a 16:1 high-speed ratio, providing a rate of fire increase along with the strength to go the distance. The cylinder and spring guide are also CNC machined from steel for flawless air seal and strength, resulting in rock-solid internals with little left to upgrade.

While the original FREYA 14" makes a great base for a DMR build thanks to its kitted-out reinforced gearbox and EAGLE ETU, we've done the hard work for you with this one. Starting at the front, we can find a birdcage flash hider mounted to the tip of the outer barrel. The birdcage flash hider does the job but can be swapped out for any 14mm CCW male-compatible muzzle device, including tracer units and suppressors if you fancy a different look or an instinct-aiming advantage in low light.

The outer barrel of the FREYA™ Gen.2 14" is 16 inches in length, making it ideal for outdoor skirmishes and the perfect base for a DMR build. Surrounding the barrel, we are treated to a uniquely lightweight skeletonised handguard boasting M-LOK slots at the 3, 6 & 9 o'clock positions with a short 20mm Picatinny rail extension providing a slightly longer receiver rail.

The offset angles boast triangular weight-reducing ports, matching the receiver to complete the dynamic styling. The skeletonised handguard makes the front end of the FREYA™ Gen.2 easy and fast to point, making it an asset to a fast-moving playstyle.

On the top of the handguard, we can find our front flip-up iron sight, which is spring-loaded, requiring a press on the textured surface at the rear to deploy. The rear sight is mounted to the receiver rail and functions the same way; simply press the button, and up it pops.

Elevation adjustments are applied to the front sight using an AR-15 front sight adjustment tool and windage on the rear sight via the dial on the right side. The rear sight also features two apertures, a fine one for bright conditions and accurate semi-auto fire and a wider one for low light scenarios and full auto.

Following the handguard, we come to the receiver, which is constructed from alloy with a unique skeletonised design based on the real steel GrandPower R15 FREYA™ receiver. Practically everywhere that weight can be reduced, it has been, resulting in an ultra-modern look and superb handling and weight distribution.

The forward assist button has been deleted, just like the best of real steel AR platforms, and the mock brass deflector is considerably smaller than mil-spec M4s, further reducing weight. As we would expect for a modern AR, the receiver boasts a 20mm Picatinny rail, meaning you can mount a red dot sight or scope straight away with no extra adapters needed.

The layout of the controls matches other M4/AR-15 platforms, meaning no need to retrain if you are used to a standard AR, despite the unique receiver of the FREYA™ Gen.2. The fire selector is positioned just above the pistol grip and offers 3 modes of fire; SAFE, SEMI and AUTO, with a 90-degree throw between each mode.

This makes the selector easy to switch, but not so easy that it can be knocked out of position accidentally. Each mode is denoted with laser-engraved "SAFE-FIRE-AUTO" markings. The magazine release is on the right side of the magazine well and is accessible for a right-handed user with the tip of the trigger finger.

Pulling back the charging handle, located at the top rear of the receiver, will open the dust cover and retract the mock bolt carrier to allow access to the rotary HOP-up adjuster. As mentioned, while the original FREYA HOP-up bucking is a great bit of kit, this unit now houses a Prometheus Purple HOP-up Bucking and Nub, giving it the one-shot precision a DMR needs.

The rotary unit is the latest HOP-up unit design for the M4/AR-15 and provides finer increments of adjustment and holds its setting more effectively when compared to the older gear-style HOP-up unit. The charging handle has an extended latch for easier access, allowing even those with thick gloves to access the HOP-up unit, though you may need to take off a glove to turn the adjuster!

The pistol grip of the FREYA™ Gen.2 14" boasts a refined grip angle for greater comfort when shooting with the stock fully collapsed and in more modern shooting stances. Each flank of the pistol grip includes fine crackle texturing, with additional linear texture on the front and back straps for perfect wet-weather handling.

The trigger is a "flat" trigger with a short finger ledge and textured front, known as the "CNC Type A" trigger. Its flat front face makes it ideal for pumping out rapid follow-up shots when engaging moving targets at maximum range, and the finger ledge keeps your finger firmly where it needs to be.

At the rear of the receiver, we come to the steel CQD-style sling plate, which offers ambidextrous functionality with single-point slings, perfect for left or right-handed shooters. The steel construction of the sling plate practically guarantees that, even if you mount a massive rifle scope, PEQ box, and RunCam, the sling plate will be strong enough to support the weight.

Following the sling plate, we come to the good old AR buffer tube, constructed from alloy and offering 6 adjustment positions for the pre-installed stock, or any other M4/AR-15 AEG stock you choose to mount.

The pre-installed stock is a slimline design unique to the latest releases from Delta Armory, known as the "EAGLE" stock. The EAGLE stock features a QD sling socket on either side, together with conventional "footman loops", aka sling slots, giving you plenty of sling mounting options built in.

The highlight of this stock is its rubber butt plate, featuring lattice checkering and an angled section at the toe to provide grip in the most modern shooting stances, with or without body armour. If you have a preferred stock design, the stock can be swapped for alternative M4/AR-15 AEG stocks if you want to change up the looks!

The buffer tube also serves as the battery compartment. To access it, you will need to extend the stock to position 2, then press the button on the top of the stock, at the rear. This will allow the butt plate to hinge open, revealing a Deans battery connector inside the buffer tube.

We recommend a 7.4V 1450mAh LiPo in stick configuration for the R15 FREYA™ DMR. Though it will accept other stick batteries for AR buffer tubes, you may need to keep the stock extended to fit them inside.

Inside the FREYA™ Gen.2's version 2 gearbox, we are treated to the best of both the Delta Armory EAGLE™ and ETU series. Its CNC 16:1 ratio high-speed steel gears run on 7mm steel bushings for an intense rate of fire.

Our techs have also added a Prometheus Purple HOP-up bucking and nub to the fantastic FREYA formula, along with an M120 spring to crank it up to fully-fledged DMR performance. This build now hits out at a killer 390 FPS using 0.20g BBs, approximately 1.41 joules of muzzle energy. Make sure you use 0.28g-0.32g BBs and adjust your HOP-up when you take this out, as using 0.20g BBs would be a sin in a DMR with such potential.

The usual Delta Armory pre-upgrades are present, including an SHS piston with a full steel tooth rack, an SHS tappet plate, and a CNC aluminium piston head, cylinder head and nozzle for maximum long-term durability. The cylinder is also CNC machined from steel, as is the spring guide.

These ultra-strong CNC parts are powered by a high-torque motor with Neodymium magnets, kept in check by the EAGLE™ ETU/MOSFET system. The combination of the EAGLE™ and the internals from the previous ETU series is a match made in heaven, offering more programmable options than ever before.

The ability to choose 3 or 5-round burst, binary trigger, sniper delay, semi-automatic only, AUG mode, trigger sensitivity settings and active braking levels gives the FREYA™ Gen.2 14" the edge over practically any other platform in this price range. Please note: due to UK energy limits, both legal and skirmish site limits, you'll need to change to an M90, M100 or M105 spring if you're using burst, binary or full auto.
