  • High density polymer build
  • M-LOK/20mm Picatinny hybrid handguard
  • Unique modern receiver design

If you miss the days of simple yet reliable AEGs like the G&G Combat Machine, the CM16 STEALTH 556 Combat Machine AEG brings proven Combat Machine internals to an exciting new format! Made predominantly from high density polymer with an alloy outer barrel, alloy buffer tube and steel trim parts, the CM16 STEALTH 556 is uniquely modern on the outside with an enhanced receiver, M-LOK/20mm Picatinny hybrid handguard and a new generation of G&G ergonomic furniture.

Inside, the CM16 Stealth is based around the version 2 gearbox, equipped with 18:1 ratio steel gears, an 18K RPM motor and a true quick-change spring system. The new G&G quick-change spring system means you no longer have to remove the gearbox from the receiver to switch springs, making power tuning easier than ever before. Also inside is G&G's latest rotary HOP-up design, providing superb airseal and the usual rotary HOP-up perks of easier adjustment in fine increments and improved setting retention under the vibrations of full auto fire. Our test example showed incredible consistency on the chrono (1-3 FPS deviation at maximum), pointing to a well-built gearbox which should provide very tight groupings downrange.

While it may not have an ETU or anything super fancy on the inside, the CM16 STEALTH 556 Combat Machine AEG is focused on reliability and will probably keep running for decades, like owners of the eternal original Combat Machine experienced with what is probably Airsoft's most reliable AEG. If you're looking for the perfect backup or loaner platform which will never let you down, the G&G Armament CM16 STEALTH 556 is the one!

Description

If you prefer the good old days of simple internals which last forever, the G&G Armament CM16 STEALTH 556 Combat Machine AEG is one to watch! An externally revamped version of the original Combat Machine with choice refinements and an ultra-modern aesthetic, the CM16 STEALTH 556 is made predominantly from G&G's super-strong high-density polymer with an alloy outer barrel, alloy buffer tube and steel trim parts.

Inside, the CM16 STEALTH is based around a version 2 MIG gearbox with an 18:1 ratio steel gearset and a true quick-change spring system to allow for easy power tuning without removing the gearbox from the receiver. The motor is a standard speed 18K RPM example, and the HOP-up unit is G&G's latest rotary design, offering finer adjustment increments than the older gear-style adjuster and improved setting retention over long durations. Based on our experience with the original CM16 Combat Machine, we can safely say that while its internals are simple, the CM16 STEALTH will, in all likelihood, outlast its rivals and still run perfectly in a decade's time!

Starting at the front, we can find a polymer three-prong flash hider mounted to 14mm CCW male barrel threading. The pre-installed muzzle device is a perfect match for the ultra-modern aesthetic of the CM16 STEALTH, but can easily be replaced with an alternative muzzle device of your choice, including tracer units and suppressors.

Moving rearwards, we come to the handguard, which is made from G&G's top-notch fibre reinforced polymer, about the strongest polymer available in Airsoft. With no flex, wobble, or movement to be found, this handguard provides a rock-solid feel, despite the low weight of the platform overall. Running along the top, we are treated to a 20mm Picatinny rail which meets the receiver rail seamlessly, allowing for optical sights of practically any length to be mounted, including massive rifle scopes and red dot sight/magnifier combos. On each side, the handguard is rocking two steel QD sling sockets, allowing ultra-modern sling setups to be fitted in a two-point configuration. If you're after the perfect sling for the CM16 STEALTH, we recommend the HASTA Adaptive Mission Sling Gen.4

At the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, the handguard boasts M-LOK negative space attachment slots, keeping the build light and pointable while allowing M-LOK vertical and angled foregrips, flashlights and other accessories to be fitted where you need them. At the very front, we have a short section of 20mm Picatinny rail on the bottom, ideally placed for mounting a tactical flashlight to permit ambidextrous operation and advantageous positioning on either left or right-hand corners. While it may take a walk on the wild side when it comes to design, G&G's platforms are definitely very well thought out!

Next up, we land receiver-side, with a unique M4/AR-15-based receiver design bristling with ergonomic enhancements and G&G's cutting-edge styling. The magazine well has been redesigned for a dynamic look, featuring gripping texture on the front ideal for shooting in tight quarters using unconventional stances. The trigger guard is enlarged and built into the receiver, improving strength when compared to standard M4 receivers and providing easy trigger access for those who shoot wearing full finger gloves.

The controls are laid out in the same positions as a standard M4, with a three-position rotary fire selector switch above the pistol grip on the left side, offering three modes of fire: safe, semi-automatic and fully automatic, with a 90-degree throw between each mode. The magazine release is an ambidextrous example, positioned on the magazine well on either side, easily within reach of the trigger finger while the rifle is held in a ready position.

The charging handle, located at the top rear of the receiver, is a low-profile milspec design intended to minimise equipment snags. Pulling the charging handle rearwards will pop open the steel dust cover on the right side of the receiver and retract the detailed mock bolt carrier, revealing the rotary HOP-up adjuster at the front of the ejection port. The HOP-up allows you to adjust the amount of backspin applied to your BBs and tune for different ammo weights, seeking the flattest possible trajectory. This rotary HOP-up design is G&G's latest, a superb quality unit with great airseal and tactile clicks with each adjustment increment, along with the usual rotary perks of improved setting retention and finer adjustment increments.

Mounted to the 20mm Picatinny top rail, the CM16 STEALTH is equipped with G&G's most recent iron sight design, a combination sight which offers a light-enhancing open sight when flipped down or an adjustable aperture sight when flipped up. The front light-enhancing insert is red, and the rear inserts are green, ensuring you never mix up the sight index points when shooting pumped with adrenaline. When raised, the aperture sights can be adjusted for windage and elevation without tools via the drum on the right side of the rear sight and in the centre of the front sight. These sights are also rail-mounted, meaning they can be removed if you're more of a "spray and pray" type!

At the rear of the receiver, we're equipped with the prolific M4/AR-15 buffer tube, a 6-position example made from alloy, allowing the pre-installed GOS-V15 sliding stock to be adjusted to suit any body type or loadout. Sandwiched between the rear of the receiver and the buffer tube, we're also treated to an ambidextrous sling plate made from steel, ideally suited to conventional slings and those equipped with an HK hook. Being made from steel means this sling point is easily sturdy enough to support the weight of the CM16 STEALTH, even when decked out with accessories.

The GOS-V15 sliding stock is one of the highlights of the build, a fantastic-looking stock design combining many convenient features of the best AR-15 sliding stocks in the real steel world. The adjustment lever of the GOS-V15 is a low-profile example inspired by the real steel MOE-SLS stock, allowing for easy adjustments while keeping the lever clear of snags and obstructions. On each side, the GOS-V15 features steel QD sling sockets, ready for QD sling swivels to be added to mount an ultra-modern, quick-removable sling setup. The butt plate is serrated and made from grippy rubber for maximum wet-weather traction, and the cheek pieces are comfortably sloped in a similar manner to the legendary Crane stock, though they are much slimmer to promote in-game agility and reduce equipment snags.

The battery compartment is inside the buffer tube and accessible through the rear of the GOS-V15 stock. To access the compartment, simply press the tab on the top of the butt plate and rotate it by 90 degrees in either direction. Inside the buffer tube, you'll find a mini-Tamiya battery connector to which you connect your choice of battery. We recommend a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo battery in stick configuration for an easy fit and solid performance.

Like the OG Combat Machine of yesteryear, the internals of the CM16 STEALTH are relatively simple by modern standards, but are based on proven designs assembled by the world-beating techs at G&G. The version 2 gearbox uses G&G's MIG shell, opening up opportunities to add a MOSFET/ETU should you feel the need to down the line. The gears are a standard 18:1 ratio set made from steel, and a true quick-change spring system allows for easy power tuning, simply requiring the buffer tube to be removed to access the spring guide and saving you the hassle of removing the gearbox from the receiver.

Also inside is G&G's newly designed rotary HOP-up unit, a fantastic quality unit which clicks with each adjustment increment and provides fantastic airseal qualities, with only 1-3 FPS deviation at maximum when tested on the chronograph using 0.20g BBs. While it ain't nothin' fancy, the CM16 STEALTH follows the proven original CM16 Combat Machine philosophy; keep it simple and reliable!

With robust internals which will last a lifetime and a cutting-edge external design ready for any mission which awaits it, the CM16 STEALTH 556 makes the perfect beginner gun for a skirmisher who wants a long-lasting piece or a backup/loaner AEG for a veteran worried that their thoroughly upgraded primary will let them down mid-firefight. Remember, the candle which burns twice as bright burns half as long; while it may not boast all the bells and whistles, the G&G Armament CM16 STEALTH 556 Combat Machine AEG will never let you down!
