Description
If you're all about Hi-Capas with aggressive aesthetics, the Golden Eagle 3517 Hi-Capa 5.1 Chainsaw GBB Pistol is one to watch. Supplied in a hard pistol case with a stylish CNC ported slide, light-enhancing iron sights, a combat-optimised flared magwell, and a fluted outer barrel to finish off the custom look, the Hi-Capa Chainsaw telegraphs pure aggression, ideal for skirmishers with the playstyle to match!
Inside, we're treated to a robust steel hammer and a steel trigger to improve reliability and save you money and hassle in the long term. Also inside is a 6.02mm tightbore inner barrel for an accuracy edge with high-quality BBs. If you need a menacing full metal Hi-Capa build which punches way above its price point, the Golden Eagle 3517 Hi-Capa 5.1 Chainsaw GBB Pistol is a great option!
Starting at the front, we can find 11mm CW female threading at the tip of the 5.1-inch aluminium outer barrel, allowing a tracer unit or suppressor to be fitted using an 11mm CW female to 14mm CCW male thread adapter. If you're planning on rocking a tracer with the Hi-Capa 5.1 Chainsaw, we recommend the Eshooter Flare-M, as it is supplied with the correct adapter in the box.
The outer barrel itself is finished in matte black, providing a consistent, combat-friendly aesthetic across the piece. To add a hint of custom styling, the barrel features straight fluting running its entire length, visible through the slide ports and at the chamber. Barrel fluting helps reduce weight and encourages barrel cooling in real steel form, a common enhancement added to customised Hi-Capas designed for rapid fire, either in a combat or competition environment.
Dynamic, angled slide serrations are present at the front and rear, allowing you to cock the pistol however you prefer and enjoy flawless handling, with or without gloves. The slide serrations at the front perfectly match the angle of the rear serrations, keeping the aesthetics consistent across the design.
The slide itself is ported at the front, with aggressive, saw-blade-style ports at the top corners, reducing weight while keeping the internals relatiively save from dirt and debris ingress. The ported slide design helps cut down weight to improve slide cyclic speed and gas efficiency, along with adding considerably to the aggressive Hi-Capa Chainsaw aesthetic.
The sights of the Hi-Capa 5.1 Chainsaw can be found on the top of the slide. The front sight is a fixed light-enhancing sight with an extended green insert, allowing for fast target acquisition, even in low-light situations. The rear sight is a serrated "anti-glare" open sight which combines well with the light-enhancing front sight to prevent accidentally mixing up the sight dots and pulling your shot off. Both sights are made from steel, a big plus for strength in this affordable package.
The rear sight is fully adjustable, allowing for elevation adjustments(up and down) by turning the screw on the top using a flathead screwdriver. The windage can be adjusted using the screw on the right side of the sight, which will allow you to move the sight picture left to right. Adjustable sights very much suit the competition-esque styling of the Hi-Capa 5.1 Chainsaw, allowing extra precision so you can land shots on small targets with ease.
At the rear of the slide, we can find hexagonal serrations to provide positive control over the slide of the pistol, meaning no matter the weather conditions, you will still be able to cock the slide, with or without gloves. The styling of the serrations matches perfectly with the unique shape of the front slide ports, providing a customised aesthetic throughout the build.
Moving down to the frame, we can find the standard Hi-Capa layout of an alloy frame with a modular, polymer pistol grip. The frame features a 20mm Picatinny rail at the front, which allows for a tactical flashlight or aiming laser to be added for low-light environments or CQB. This 20mm rail is longer than the usual pistol rail and a "true Picatinny" spec, giving you maximum versatility in your choice and placement of accessories.
The slide release catch can be found on the left side of the pistol, just above the trigger, and is a slightly enlarged design to enable those with smaller hands to use the control effectively whilst remaining tight to the frame to prevent snags. The magazine release is on the left side of the grip and is an extended design for easy, fast access when time is of the essence.
The grip itself is constructed from high-density polymer and features hand-stippled texturing on all sides to provide the gripping qualities necessary for use in all weather conditions, with or without gloves. Just like real steel custom 'Capas designed for IPSC, this stippling is incredibly aggressive, positively glueing the pistol to your hands so you can sweep between targets rapidly without the risk of dropping the pistol. Hand stippling is usually a massive effort to undertake; we're thankful Golden Eagle has done the challenging work for us in this case!
As a part of the Hi-Capa design, the trigger guard is integrated into the pistol grip module and includes undercuts for both the strong hand and support hand, encouraging a high grip on the pistol for better recoil control. Undercuts also encourage consistency in how you grip the Hi-Capa Chainsaw, which translates directly to accuracy downrange.
At the base of the grip, we can find a magazine well extension with a bevelled inner wall, also known as a magazine well flare or flared magwell. This part is intended to help speed up reloads by providing a widened route to the magazine well, allowing for "eyes up" reloads and easier reloads on the move. The magwell flare included on the Chainsaw is a combat-optimised style, complete with cutouts on either side, which allow for retention reloads or the extraction of stuck or fouled magazines.
The manual safety catch is located at the rear of the pistol and is mirrored on both sides to allow left- or right-handed use. This manual safety can be activated whether the pistol is cocked or not and will lock both the trigger and slide when pushed upwards. When not in use, the safety does double duty as a "gas pedal" style thumb rest to encourage a consistent grip and assist with controlling muzzle rise during rapid fire.
At the rear of the frame, we can find our secondary safety device: the "beavertail" grip safety. This safety prevents the pistol from being fired unless it is pressed in, ensuring the pistol will not fire when dropped and allowing you to safely carry the Hi-Capa, "cocked and locked", with its legendary light trigger. The beavertail present on the Hi-Capa 5.1 Chainsaw is an extended design, featuring texture on the rear surface for additional grip and an extension to ensure the safety is disabled as soon as the pistol is gripped.
Just above the grip safety, we can see the hammer, which is a low-profile skeletonised design intended to reduce the chances of "hammer bite" and prevent the hammer from snagging on your gear as you draw. The angular design of the hammer sits right in line with the visual language expressed by the rest of the pistol, equipped with linear texture on the upper surface to allow for greater control if you need to de-cock the Hi-Capa.
If you're looking for a Hi-Capa with a more menacing, squared-off look than the average, the Golden Eagle 3517 Hi-Capa 5.1 Chainsaw GBB Pistol has you covered. An impressive build for the price, packed with pre-upgraded parts, the Chainsaw makes a fantastic first sidearm or base for a custom Hi-Capa build!
