The handguard is a flawless replica of the real steel Strike Industries VOA handguard, equipped with 10 M-LOK slots, finger grooves for maximum traction and stylish ports to keep weight to a minimum. The aggressive alloy heat-shield up top provides a trench-gun-like aesthetic to go with the menacing Strike furniture, and the receiver rail allows optical sights to be added, at the user's discretion. This variant is rocking an M4/AR-15 sliding stock and A2 pistol grip, giving you length of pull adjustment for close quarters and compatibility with alternative sliding stocks and GBBR pistol grips!

Starting at the front, we can take note of the intimidating shotgun-sized bore, giving the enemy a truly terrifying view as you level the sights. The barrel isn't threaded, but the inner barrels are recessed inside the outer, effectively hiding the Airsoft nature of this fantastic replica.

Following shortly behind, we come to the "Strike" 12-gauge shotgun barrel clamp, an aftermarket replacement for the original M870 clamp. The "Strike" adds a lot of functionality, with a QD sling socket on the left side and a short section of 20mm Picatinny rail on the right, ideally placed for a tactical flashlight or aiming laser. As we might expect, the barrel clamp is CNC machined from aluminium, offering precise engagement surfaces and a detailed recessed Strike Industries logo.

Moving rearwards, we come to the VOA handguard, equipped with a row of 4 M-LOK slots running along the bottom and two additional slots on each side. Thankfully, there is plenty of clearance between the mock mag tube and handguard, meaning these M-LOK slots are ready to rock with M-LOK accessories, including vertical or angled foregrips, tactical flashlights or 20mm rail adapters for those who prefer 20mm accessories. The VOA provides superb gripping qualities and feels fantastic, with or without gloves; a major enhancement compared to the original 870 handguard.

Above the handguard, we are treated to a ported heat shield covering the outer barrel, equipped with ghost ring iron sights at the front and rear. The sights are fantastic for a shotgun; easy to pick up when raising the M870 and forward-mounted for a more unobstructed field of view. This heat shield gives us the vibe of the legendary WW1 trench gun, adding some visual interest to the usual pump action shotgun layout, along with a formidable aura!

Moving back to the receiver, we can see the aggressive styling of the heat shield is maintained with the 20mm Picatinny rail mount, providing a 20mm Picatinny rail up top, ready for your choice of optical sight. If you prefer the authentic 21st-Century trench gun feel, the top rail is recessed along its centreline to allow for a clear view through the ghost ring iron sights. 

The trigger and trigger guard assembly is positioned just to the rear of the shell port/magazine well and includes a cross bolt safety just behind the trigger. When engaged, the cross bolt safety will lock the trigger and protrude on the right side, putting it easily within reach of the trigger finger for quick actuation and intuitive handling. When the safety is off, the cross bolt button will protrude on the left side with a red ring surrounding it to indicate that the shotgun is hot.

On the left side of the trigger guard, we can find the shell door release cunningly disguised as a dummy bolt release. On the real M870, this control allows you to unlock the bolt and eject a loaded cartridge should you need to switch ammo types or unload without firing. In the M870 VOA, it opens the shell port door and, with a hard push, ejects the shell inside. If you're planning on using a drum mag, the shell port door will need to be removed.

This variant of the M870 VOA is equipped with an M4/AR-15 grip/stock adapter, as opposed to the semi-pistol grip found on the original M870 VOA Custom. The grip is an "A2" finger ridged grip commonly found on M16 and M4A1 rifles, with a texture pattern on both flanks as well as linear serrations on the rear. This makes pointing and manoeuvring the shotgun a lot easier in CQB environments and very familiar for M4 users. Just above the pistol grip is a QD sling point, ready for a QD sling swivel.

The adapter itself is made from alloy, offering a 6-position M4/AR-15 buffer tube which is compatible with most M4/AR-15 AEG/GBBR stocks on the market, as well as some real steel AR stocks. The gas reservoir is inside the buffer tube, and can be filled with the shotgun and gas can inverted, just like a GBB pistol magazine. The buffer tube allows you to adjust the stock length to suit your body type and loadout, providing a more versatile rear-end setup than the original VOA custom.

The stock is a Golden Eagle original design, originally from their M4 GBBR series, but heavily inspired by the real Strike Industries MOD1 sliding stock. It features a raised cheek rest, a serrated butt plate and a low-profile adjustment lever. On either side, you'll find QD sling sockets, ready for QD sling swivels and a quick-release sling setup.

Being based on the TM 870, the EMG M870 VOA is capable of shooting either 3 or 6 BBs per shot, giving you a realistic shotgun-like spread, which is fantastic for dealing with moving targets or getting the first shot off when breaching a room. To switch between 3 and 6 shot modes, simply pull the pump handle rearwards so the mock bolt is retracted and push the sliding switch inside the mock ejection port to the position of choice. With the switch at the front, the M870 VOA is set to 3-shot mode, and with it at the rear, you're ready to unleash 6-shot brutality on the enemy team!
