If you love a full-fat sniper rifle build with no realism compromises, the King Arms MDT TAC21 Gas Bolt Action Sniper Rifle Version II should be in your sights! A hefty, full metal build with a gorgeous CNC aluminium chassis and AR-15 furniture, this is as realistic as Airsoft sniper rifle builds get, equipped with Tanaka-based internals with the versatile PCS adjustable FPS bolt.

The PCS bolt allows FPS to be tuned, from 200 FPS using standard green gas and 0.20g BBs, up to 410 FPS. This allows you to tune FPS to suit your local site's limits, taking full advantage of the higher FPS limit for bolt-action sniper rifles. One edge this Tanaka clone platform has over the Japanese-made original is its GBB/VSR-style HOP-up bucking design, making HOP-up upgrades more accessible.

In terms of build quality, the TAC21 is an absolute beast, the type of platform which will definitely draw curious skirmishers in the safe zone. Its AR GBBR-compatible pistol grip and buffer tube allow for loads of customisation options, and its seamless upper 20mm Picatinny rail means you can mount a scope and Runcam at the same time, with plenty of space to spare. If you're ready to take your sniping game to the next level of realism, the King Arms MDT TAC21 Gas Bolt Action Sniper Rifle Version II is ready for you!

Full description

Description

Due to its enormous size, the TAC21 is supplied disassembled in the box, but assembly is thankfully rather easy (see "Special Instructions").

If you're a sniper looking for a more challenging and realistic primary, the King Arms MDT TAC21 Gas Bolt Action Sniper Rifle Version II has your name on it! A stunner of a full metal build with licensing from MDT for the TAC21 chassis and from CAA Tactical for the stock and cheek rest, this ultra-modern sniper rifle is at the cutting edge of precision rifle handling, ideal for any contemporary loadout.

Inside, the King Arms TAC21 finds its origins in the legendary Tanaka M700 system, the gas-powered sniper rifle system considered the cream of the crop by veteran Airsoft snipers. Being gas-powered means the bolt has no resistance when cocked, allowing you to stay concealed in the woods and avoid drawing the eye of the enemy team. An edge this build has over the original Tanaka is its GBB/VSR-style HOP-up bucking, giving you way more options in terms of upgrades.

The other massive advantages of the gas power source include a considerably longer inner barrel, a quieter muzzle report when suppressed and the built-in ability to adjust FPS from approximately 200 FPS on 0.20g BBs and standard pressure green gas right up to a healthy 410 FPS, a fantastic feature to tune FPS right to the site limits, with no significant disassembly or extra parts to buy. If you use higher-pressure gas, you can get even more velocity, but have your chronograph ready to make sure you don't go too far.

While it will be less consistent downrange than a properly built spring-powered sniper rifle, the TAC21 provides snipers with an authentic experience which cannot be matched by any springer. If you want a realistic, effortless bolt pull, authentic weight and flawless external build in your sniper platform, the King Arms MDT TAC21 ticks all the boxes!

Starting at the front, we come to the lengthy 24-inch outer barrel, CNC machined from aluminium for a flawless finish. At the tip, we're treated to a robust steel muzzle brake, adding aggressive, modern aesthetics. The barrel profile matches the real M700 profile perfectly, with its tapered design, featuring fluting cuts along its entire length, designed to reduce weight and dissipate heat in real steel form. The fluting is a big part of the custom precision rifle look, and King Arms has replicated it flawlessly in this build.

Moving rearwards, we come to the chassis, a spot-on replica of the real MDT TAC21 Precision Rifle Chassis, complete with realistic trademarks and CNC-machined from aluminium for flawless details and a high-quality feel. The anodised finish of the TAC21 is phenomenal, providing a hint of metallics which perfectly matches the real deal without standing out in the field.

The handguard features a proprietary negative-space attachment system running along the bottom and sides, with 3 pre-installed 20mm Picatinny rail adapters. The negative space mounting system saves weight compared to legacy Picatinny rails, and the included rail adapters allow you to add a bipod, sling point or other 20mm Picatinny accessories to suit the mission at hand.

The top of the handguard features a full-length 20mm Picatinny rail, providing plenty of space for a variety of optical sights, aiming lasers and other mission essential equipment. The extra rail space on the TAC21 compared to other platforms makes it a great host for a Runcam Scope Cam, and its free-floated design prevents force being applied to the barrel and negatively affecting accuracy.

Next up, we land at the receiver section of the chassis, made from CNC aluminium with gorgeous, precisely engraved MDT TAC21 trademarks on the left side, along with the MDT logo. The upper 20mm Picatinny rail integrates seamlessly with the handguard rail, providing a massive 18.5 inches of uninterrupted rail space, ready for your choice of optical sight.

The TDC HOP-up adjuster is recessed into the receiver rail, accessible through the slots on the sides or from the top using a flathead screwdriver. The HOP-up allows you to adjust for different ammo weights and tune your trajectory to be as flat as possible. A great feature of this King Arms build is its GBB/VSR-style HOP-up bucking, giving you far more upgrade options than the legacy Tanaka M700 build on which it is based.

At the rear of the receiver, we can find the bolt and handle, designed as a perfect match for the iconic sniper rifle everyone recognises, the Remington M700. The handle boasts texture on its surface to ensure you never slip off, though, being a gas bolt action, there is no resistance when cocking this bolt, so you won't need the texture quite as much as with a springer.

The safety lever is on the right side, just behind the bolt handle, allowing easy access from a firing grip with minimal movement and chance to alert the enemy team. With the safety pulled rearwards, the trigger will disconnect. With it pushed forward, you're ready to shoot.

The magazine release is just ahead of the trigger guard, a centrally positioned paddle release which is easily accessed from either side of the rifle. One thing to note about Tanaka-based gas sniper rifles is that they are not designed to have the magazine removed or inserted when the bolt is forward. To remove or insert the mag, first pull the bolt back to its rearmost position. With the bolt open, insert the mag and close the bolt. This is no bad thing if you like realism, as this is exactly how a real TAC21 rifle would be used.

The trigger guard is a squared-off, enlarged design, providing plenty of room for gloved fingers and keeping styling consistent with the cutting-edge aesthetic of the chassis overall. Behind the trigger guard, we have an M4A1/M16A2-style finger ridged pistol grip, known as the "A2" grip. While the A2 is the US military standard grip, you can swap it out for any GBBR or real steel compatible aftermarket grip for AR-15s.

Inside the trigger recess in the bottom of the stock, you can take note of the flat button between the magazine release and trigger. This is the bolt release catch, which allows you to remove the TAC21 bolt entirely for maintenance and to access its power adjustment feature. To remove the bolt, first, remove your magazine. Then, press the bolt release button down and hold it in place. With this done, you can pull the bolt straight out through the rear of the receiver. See the "Special Instructions" section below to learn about the PCS power-adjustable bolt.

At the rear of the TAC21 chassis, we are treated to a 6-position M4/AR-15 buffer tube, mounted to the chassis using a robust steel castle nut. The buffer tube is made from aluminium and allows you to adjust the stock to any of 6 length-of-pull positions for maximum shooter comfort.

The stock itself is a licensed replica of the real steel CAA Tactical CBS Buttstock, made from strong high-density polymer with a high-quality, textured finish. The CBS stock features 2 pairs of QD sling sockets, allowing a QD sling swivel to be fitted on either side for a highly versatile sling setup which can be removed in seconds. At the toe of the stock, we also have a conventional sling loop, ideal for standard strap-style slings. The adjustment lever is also extended, making it easier to reach when shooting in the prone position.

Mounted to the CBS stock, we have yet another licensed CAA Tactical component, known as the Adjustable Cheek Piece (ACP). The cheek piece can be raised and lowered by loosening the thumbscrew on the right side, adjusting its position to suit, then tightening the screw down to secure it.

This allows you to get a clear view through your optical sight, regardless of the height of your scope rings, and also encourages a consistent, comfortable shooting position. If you wear full face protection, you can also remove the cheek piece from the Picatinny interface on the right side of the stock. To do this, push the retention catch below the thumbscrew downward and hold it in place while you slide the cheek piece off.

If you love a sniper rifle which draws eyes in the safe zone but blends in on the field, the King Arms MDT TAC21 Gas Bolt Action Sniper Rifle Version II is exactly that. An experience without equal for realism-focused players and collectors alike, the TAC21 has as much presence on the field as it does on display!

Special Instructions

Assembly Instructions

The TAC21 is supplied disassembled in the box. Assembly instructions can be found below:

  • Install the bolt through the rear of the receiver. This is done by inserting the bolt with the handle aligned with the track on the right side of the chassis.
  • Push the captive pin on the stock assembly through from the right side so it fully protrudes on the left. This pin is captive and cannot be fully removed.
  • Mount the stock assembly to the rear of the chassis. With the pinhole aligned with the cutout on the chassis, push the pin through from the left until it sits flush with the sides of the chassis.

How to Adjust the PCS Bolt

The PCS bolt of the King Arms MDT TAC21 can be adjusted through the magazine well or by removing the bolt entirely using the bolt release catch inside the trigger guard.

The PCS bolt offers FPS adjustment between approximately 200 FPS and 410 FPS using 0.20g BBs and standard-pressure green gas. Higher-pressure gases (red gas, VORSK V8, black gas, VORSK V12, etc.) will produce higher FPS results.

If you need a chronograph to measure and confirm FPS, you can find them here:Airsoft Chronographs

Use the following instructions to adjust FPS using the PCS Bolt:

  • Loosen the grub screw to the rear of the gas route bucking
  • With the grub screw fully loosened but not removed, turn the dial inside the recess behind the grub screw
  • With the dial all the way to the front, you're in the lowest FPS setting. With it at the rear, you're at the maximum
  • With your adjustment complete, retighten the grub screw and reinstall the bolt
