- Reinforced internal system
- Uses GLOCK-style magazines
- Gas blowback pistol calibre carbine
If some gas blowback rifle action in Airsoft has tempted you, but you don't want to commit your life savings to spare mags, you should check out the King Arms TWS 9mm SBR GBB SMG! This affordable, lightweight platform feeds from Umarex Glock magazines, meaning you may already have some compatible ones in your arsenal!
This platform maintains its low weight with a polymer hand and lower receiver. The upper receiver is aluminium alloy and is plenty durable to withstand the intense, immersive recoil that this replica produces after every shot.
It is based on the Western Arms system, but it has durable upgrades for long-term reliability. The steel firing pin is reinforced, the bolt carrier has been upgraded for a high-speed variant, and the bolt stop parts have been replaced with reinforced steel ones. If you want to try GBB, this SMG is a great introduction and a reliable long-term platform!

Description
Airsoft gas systems can feel intimidating, especially when they come with a high price tag. Thankfully, the King Arms TWS 9mm SBR GBB SMG isn’t so daunting. This replica features a simple, easy-to-understand gas system and accepts readily available Umarex GLOCK gas magazines. Best of all, it avoids the hefty cost often associated with gas blowback platforms, making it a reliable and accessible first step into the world of GBB airsoft.
Starting at the tip of the outer barrel, we have a muzzle device which is styled after real steel linear compensators intended to reduce recoil in short-barreled platforms. The compensator also functions as a sound amplifier, giving the 9mm SBR an intimidating muzzle report, making it an asset in CQB. The compensator attaches to the 14mm CCW male threading at the tip of the outer barrel, so if you need a tracer unit to keep heads down or you like to sneak around with a suppressed SMG, this is not out of the question!
The handguard is a quad 20mm Picatinny-railed example constructed from polymer to keep the weight low and more effectively resist scratches that will inevitably develop on metal rail systems from mounting accessories. The 9mm SBR presents a 20mm Picatinny rail at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions, meaning you can mount any tactical goodies you need to complete the mission easily and without compatibility worries.
As you receive it, both variants come with fully adjustable Troy-style flip-up iron sights, which can be used as the primary sight or left flipped down on the rail when used with a scope or red dot sight. The sights can also be removed entirely for those who follow the mantra “spray and pray”. The rotary HOP adjuster can be found on the underside of the outer barrel and is accessible when the M-LOK handguard has been removed, or through the ports on the bottom of the handguard using a small tool.
The receiver follows the familiar to most M4/AR15 layout, except the magwell is much smaller due to the pistol-calibre carbine nature of this rifle. The fire selector switch is positioned just above the GBBR slim pistol grip on the left side and has a 90-degree throw between fire modes, allowing for fast operation with reduced risk of accidentally slipping into the wrong fire mode. As it is a GBB replica, the charging handle must be racked first before it can be put into safe.
The magazine release is in the expected position, but it has an interesting design due to it needing to release a Glock-style magazine, rather than the usual M4 mag. Whilst it doesn't actually change the handling of the platform at all from a regular M4, it does make for a unique visual style.
Behind the ejection port, we have a mock brass deflector and mock forward assist button, just like a real M4/AR15 and other real-world 9mm AR-style SMGs. These parts aren’t functional on an Airsoft AEG, but are an essential part of a realistic-looking modern 9mm AR. The forward assist button can be pressed and is a separate part, avoiding the tell-tale signs of a replica seen in cheaper alternatives.
On the left-hand side of the receiver, we can find the steel-reinforced bolt catch. This can be used to lock back the charging handle after pulling it rearwards. This is ideal for maintenance or if you just want that satisfying feeling that everyone loves when you slap the bolt catch, and the bolt returns home with a beautiful metal-on-metal "CLUNK" noise.
Moving rearwards, we come to the buffer tube. It is constructed from aluminium alloy, maintaining the lightweight yet extremely durable theme that this whole rifle has. There are six slots of adjustment available on the tube, meaning you can tune your stock perfectly to your specific needs on the battlefield.
Moving on to the stock, it is a King Arms original design, known as the King Arms TWS Type 4 Adjustable Tactical Stock w/ Locking Lever. It is moulded from heavy-duty polymer and has a low-profile design that further cuts down the bulk and size of this compact platform. It has a comfortable and grippy butt pad as well as a QD sling point for sling setups. It also has a locking lever to help you keep your length of pull on the battlefield.
The TWS 9mm SBR is based on the Western Arms GBBR design, the original GBBR, widely regarded by many as the most realistic GBBR system out there. The rifle's fire control parts are a spitting image of the real AR, even down to the shape of the hammer itself. While we're on the subject of the hammer, you will be pleased to know it is made from steel, saving you money on upgrading one of the high-wear parts of this internal system.
The bolt carrier is realistically sized and is a high-speed design, giving this rifle amazing efficiency. One of the weaknesses of GBBRs in general tends to be their bolt catch, which eventually wears away and stops functioning. King Arms has seen to this by providing a steel bolt catch straight out of the box. This GBB is compatible with Umarex/Elite Force GLOCK magazines and most other EU-series magazines.
If you’re looking for a compact platform for CQB and want a break from the usual AEGs, the King Arms TWS 9mm SBR GBB SMG is an excellent choice. Its compact design and affordable price make it outstanding value, especially for players craving a pistol-calibre carbine experience with something a little different. Simple to use and great fun, it’s a refreshing entry into the world of gas blowback.

Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
