Platform Details

Starting at the front, we are treated to 14mm CCW male threading mounted to the front of the carbon-fibre tube handguard. This means you're ready to rock with a tracer unit for an instinct aiming edge. The threading itself is CNC machined from aluminium, keeping things light without compromising strength.

The handguard tube and upper receiver are made from real carbon-fibre, providing a high-speed look and ultra-low weight. The full build tips the scales at 1.96KG, but the front end is the lightest part, allowing you to rapidly snap-shoot at close range and steer the front end intuitively with practically no weight burden.

On top of the upper, the CRBN M4 features fibre-optic, light-enhancing open iron sights, fantastic sights for fast target acquisition with an edge in low-light environments. The sights are fast to align and easy to acquire, being slightly raised and paired with an adjustable drop stock so you'll always get a clear sight picture, regardless of your face protection choice.

At the front of the upper, we're treated to a short length of 20mm Picatinny rail, just the right amount to allow a Micro Red Dot sight to be fitted without increasing weight. Most Docter, RMR and T1/2-style sights will fit, but anything bigger may require a longer rail section. This isn't an issue for a Speedsoft build, as big, heavy optics will only slow you down!

On each side of the otherwise sleek, low-snag upper, we have dual HOP-up access windows, positioned perfectly for mid-game adjustment. Using a magwell grip position, the adjuster sits right beneath the thumb, whether you're left or right-handed. Turning the HOP-up adjuster allows you to tune backspin applied to your BBs, seeking the flattest possible trajectory.

Moving down to the lower receiver, we have a standard M4/AR-15 layout, with the well-placed controls which make the AR platform so well loved. The fire selector switch is on the left side, offering 3 fire modes: Safe, semi-automatic and fully automatic, with a 90-degree throw between each mode. The selector design is a standard Mil-Spec AR selector but is finished in a metallic colourway to match the carbon-fibre upper.

The pre-installed Nebula ETU also allows the selector to be programmed for burst modes of various durations and binary trigger, ideal for conserving ammo for long-duration outdoor games or cranking up trigger speed for competitive tournament play.

On the bottom of the receiver, we come to the trigger guard, an enlarged design to allow easy access to the trigger, even with full-finger gloves. The trigger itself is a flat design with a textured front face and finger ledge, a great design for pumping out rapid double taps.

The magazine release is on the right side, a standard AR-style push-through button which is easy to reach from a firing grip. Like the other controls, the mag release is finished in a metallic accent colour, tying together the distinctive Speedsoft look. On the centre left side of the receiver, we also have a dummy bolt lock/release button. In the CRBN, this is only for the look, as the advanced speed-optimised upper skips the dummy bolt, charging handle and ejection port to save weight.

The pistol grip is a modern, ergonomic design, the same grip type used on Lancer's other Gen.3 AEG platforms. This grip features crackle-textured panels on each side to improve traction, with a more vertical angle than other grips to improve comfort when shooting in compressed stances.

At the rear, the CRBN is equipped with a 6-position M4/AR-15 buffer tube mounted to an adjustable drop stock adapter. This means you can adjust the stock angle to allow for a clear sight picture when wearing full face protection, an ideal attribute for a Speedsoft build.

To adjust the drop adapter, loosen the bolt on the left side, set the stock to your angle of choice, then tighten the bolt down to secure. Regardless of whether you wear a mesh lower face shield or a full-size DYE mask, the drop stock provides plenty of adjustment for a comfortable head position when shooting and scanning for targets.

To adjust the stock itself, press the adjustment lever in the middle of the A-frame shape, and slide the stock into your chosen position. The buffer tube is made from aluminium alloy, offering 6 adjustment positions for the pre-installed A-frame-style stock, with a metallic finish to match the sharp look of the build overall.

Internals

Inside, the CRBN M4 is based around a version 2 gearbox, featuring Lancer Tactical's Gen.3 internals. This includes a reinforced alloy shell, 18:1 steel gears running on 8mm ball-bearing bushings, a quick-change spring guide for easy spring swaps and a potent 19K RPM high-torque motor to provide a competitive trigger response and impressive rate of fire.

Also inside is a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, offering enhanced accuracy despite the super-short barrel length. The Zion Arms Nebula ETU is the icing on the cake, providing programmable fire modes including semi-automatic only, burst modes of various durations and binary trigger, ideal for everything from strict CQB to outdoor skirmishes and ultra-competitive tournament games.
