LCT AK MOE AEG

If you appreciate top-notch build quality in an utterly unique shape, the LCT AK MOE should be in your sights! A full metal build made almost entirely from stamped and milled steel with a flawless real wood handguard for the unrivalled authenticity, the AK MOE is inspired by US Civilian "pistol" builds designed for pure fun, massive muzzle flash and an intense firing experience!

Inside, the AK MOE is based around a version 3 gearbox with 18:1 steel gears running on 9mm bushings, a polycarbonate piston with a full steel tooth rack, a chrome-plated cylinder and a steel ball-bearing spring guide. A 22K motor provides impressive torque and speed, and all wiring is 18AWG low-resistance wiring for top-notch electrical efficiency. Also inside is LCT's new AK rotary HOP-up unit, providing the edge in long-range performance despite the AK MOE's microscopic size. An unorthodox build which is sure to get noticed on the field, the LCT AK MOE is a bite-sized AK packing a full-sized punch!

Starting at the front, we can find a steel DTK-2 style muzzle brake, complete with realistic trademarks and a flawless shape. The DTK-2 is made from steel and finished in gunmetal grey, providing a menacing snout for this compact beast. The DTK-2 mounts to 24mm CW Russian barrel threads, but it is essential to hold the handguard in place. Tracer units for 24mm CW can technically be mounted, but you'll have to come up with a workaround to hold the handguard on, or remove it entirely. 

The handguard follows immediately behind the brake, made from gorgeous real wood with a glossy finish, made from plywood panels sandwiched together and held in place with brass pins, just like a real AK handguard. While this is about the smallest a handguard can get, it is well-shaped and comfortable to hold, with thumb recesses on either side and a curved underside to fill out the hand. 

The front iron sight/gas block assembly sits above the handguard, made from milled steel and finished with an authentic anti-corrosion finish, just like a real AK. The front sight is adjustable using an AK front sight adjustment tool and includes all the details one would expect, including a built-in sling point on the left side. The front sight directly connects to the AKS-74U-style trunnion block, as there is no room for a gas tube on this squat menace!

Like the AKS-74U, the top cover of the AK MOE is a hinged design, making battery access far easier than conventional AK rifles and providing an open rear sight with two sight notches to choose from, complete with range markings. The notch marked 4-5 is intended for engagements at 400-500 meters, and the notch marked with a U is the combat sight, designed for close range. Even for a real AK, 400-500 meters is a push, though the sights can still be used for shooting to the limits of Airsoft range with the 4-5 notch flipped up. 

The battery compartment is beneath the top cover, accessible by pressing the button on the rear of the top cover, after which it will hinge open. The fit between parts is rather tight, meaning you may need to give the top cover some careful encouragement when opening and closing, though this is a good thing as it means you get absolutely no wobble between components and a remarkably solid feel in the hands. 

With the top cover raised, you'll find a Deans battery connector to which you mount your chosen battery. We recommend a 7.4V 1000mAh LiPo in AK slim stick configuration for an easy fit and perfect performance. As with all hinged top cover AKs, it is paramount that you avoid trapping the wires between the top cover and receiver. We suggest taking care, as it is very easy to not notice protruding wiring and chop the wires when closing the cover!

The receiver is a flawless replica of the real thing, an AKM-style receiver constructed using thick steel stamped and folded into shape, with reinforcement recesses, rivets in all the right spots and authentic recessed Cyrillic lettering surrounding the fire selector switch. The fire selector switch itself is also made from stamped steel, with a slightly darker finish than the top cover to provide realistic contrast between parts.

The mock bolt carrier is another highlight of this superb build, made from steel and finished to match real steel AK carriers. When racked, the carrier makes a wonderful steel-on-steel clank and is just as satisfying to play with as it is to look at! With the charging handle held back, you'll find LCT's latest AK HOP-up design inside: a rotary unit with the adjuster on top, replacing the legacy AK slider HOP-up unit. The HOP-up allows you to tune the AK MOE for different ammo weights, seeking the flattest possible trajectory. This new rotary design shows a lot of promise and should give this micro-AK respectable performance at range. 

Fire modes are laid out in classic AK style, with the top selector position being safe, the middle being full auto and the lowermost position denoting semi-automatic. As with the rest of the AK MOE build, the fire selector is tighter than your combat trousers after Christmas dinner, with not a hint of wobble while being easy and fast to operate under pressure. 

Moving down, we come to one of the most interesting features of the AK MOE, its modular magazine well. This piece is pre-installed, allowing LCT PP-19-01 SMG magazines to be used in the AK MOE, one of which is included in the box. The SMG mag well is made from aluminium with a steel magazine release and features a flared mag well opening for easy eyes-up reloads. The trigger guard is also enlarged, providing a bit of extra space for full finger gloves. 

Also in the box is a standard AK-style magazine release/trigger guard assembly, made from stamped steel. This means if you want to really take the **** and run the AK MOE with an AK drum mag, you have that option! All you need to do to install the AK-style mag release is unscrew the original mag release assembly via the 4 screws on the bottom of the receiver and replace it with the AK-style release. LCT even include the perfect length screws so your build will never look like a bodge job!

The pistol grip is the classic AKM design, finished in a bakelite-style brown for a flawlessly authentic look. While the grip is made from a modern polymer with all its structural benefits, the glossy finish and textured look make it a perfect match for real AKM bakelite grips, probably the most authentic-looking AK AEG grip available in Airsoft. Ergonomics are a standard AK affair, with textured panels on each side for wet-weather traction and a subtle palm rest moulded in to keep your hand firmly planted. 

At the rear of the receiver, the AK MOE is rocking a 1913/20mm Picatinny stock interface, allowing MPX and MPX-style stocks to be mounted, along with any other 1913-interface compatible stock. We think the Airsoft Artisan Shorty Stock would look fantastic on this platform, but you have all the options under the sun, from lightweight skeletonised MCX stocks to AR buffer tube adapters, Visor/Respirator stocks and more!

Inside, the AK MOE is respectably equipped, based around a version 3 gearbox with 18:1 ratio steel gears running on 9mm bushings, a polycarbonate piston with a full steel tooth rack, a chrome-plated cylinder and a steel ball bearing spring guide. The wiring loom is 18AWG low-resistance wiring for top-notch electrical efficiency, and the pre-installed motor is a 22,000 RPM example, providing ample speed and torque for this little beast. The spring guide is also a quick-change example, allowing for easy power tuning without needing to disassemble the gearbox. All internals are TM spec, giving you almost unlimited upgrade potential!
