Novritsch SSP28 Full-Auto Gas Blowback Pistol

Not only has the exterior been redesigned with the signature Novritsch aesthetic, but a 6.01mm tightbore inner barrel and fixed FXB outer barrel have also been fitted. The fixed barrel eliminates the tilting action of the original design, ensuring maximum accuracy and letting the tightbore barrel reach its full potential.

In our tests, the SSP18 delivered outstanding results, offering rifle-like range and pinpoint accuracy, which is impressive for a gas blowback pistol. Starting at the front of this snappy sidearm, we find an alloy thread protector that conceals a 14mm CCW male threaded barrel beneath. This means that the most common suppressors and tracer units are ready to be attached straight away, which saves the headache of trying to find the correct thread protector! The outer barrel of this pistol is fixed, meaning it does not move up and down when firing the pistol. This means that any muzzle device you choose is unlikely to affect the gas efficiency of this Airsoft pistol.

The iron sights are located on the top of the slide, offering a light-enhancing front sight with a green insert paired with an anti-glare rear sight. These sights are a great choice by Novritsch, allowing for fast acquisition of the sights and improved low-light utility. The slide is reprofiled at the front to allow for easy reholstering and is also adorned with serrations at the rear, offering plenty of grip and a swept-back design with lends itself well to the speedy overall look of the SSP28.

On top of the outer barrel/chamber, we can see the TDC HOP-up adjuster, which is seen as the superior HOP adjustment, allowing precise changes as well as applying the HOP directly from above. The outer barrel also features a spiral-fluted design, which is visible when the slide is locked back and through the slide ports on either side and the top of the pistol. The spiral fluting is another Novritsch stylistic choice, consistent with his other replicas, and the slide ports help reduce the weight of the slide for improved gas efficiency and a faster cyclic rate.

The split nature of this slide means it is not only lightning fast to reset, it is also incredibly gas efficient, meaning gassing out is much less likely to happen whilst out on the battlefield. This is essential when you consider that this snappy little Airsoft pistol can quite comfortably shoot a whopping 28 rounds a second, beating most mid to high-end AEGs!

The fire selector is located on the rear left side of the slide and provides two firing options: semi-auto and full-auto. The selector’s hexagonal design is a distinct Novritsch touch, helping your finely-tuned, pre-upgraded EU pistol stand apart from other variants. The fire modes are indicated by an engraved symbol on the slide, a single bullet icon for semi-auto and a bullet with trailing lines for full-auto. Unlike many gas blowback pistols with full-auto capability, the SSP28 remains controllable in short bursts, though semi-auto offers the best precision.

The SSP28’s frame echoes the updated SSP18 design, incorporating a longer beavertail at the back of the grip, undercuts beneath the trigger guard, and Novritsch’s signature oblong grip texture for enhanced handling. The extended beavertail prevents slide bite for users with a high grip, while the trigger guard undercuts enable a higher hold, helping with recoil control and making target acquisition more natural.

Up front, the frame is equipped with a 20mm Picatinny rail, ready to accept your choice of tactical flashlight or laser device. The magazine release is intentionally low-profile to minimise the risk of accidental drops when drawing the pistol, particularly during intense moments. Many of these ergonomic upgrades resemble the popular “Timberwolf” style frame, celebrated in the real steel world for significantly improved handling over the traditional EU series design.

From a performance standpoint, the SSP28 is set to impress, boasting more than its fair share of pre-upgraded internals with a focus on accuracy and range, as we would expect from Novritsch. The inner barrel is a 6.01mm tightbore constructed from aluminium and stabilised inside the outer barrel to maximise the improved accuracy potential gained from the fixed FXB outer barrel. The pre-installed HOP-up bucking is a Prism HOP-up bucking, which provides an incredibly strong HOP-up effect, thus the recommendation from Novritsch and ourselves to use 0.32g BBs to get the most from the platform.
