- Full metal construction
- Maple Leaf Autobot 60° bucking
- Short bolt - High RoF & gas efficiency
If you love the feel of GBBRs but need a high-performance option, the Novritsch SSQ4 M4/AR-15 GBBR is one to watch. A stunner of a full metal build bristling with Novritsch innovation, the SSQ4 reinvents the GBBR platform with a focus on range, accuracy and rate of fire, putting other GBBRs to shame in terms of downrange effect.
The SSQ4 achieves its edge through a shortened bolt carrier design, which makes your gas supply go much further and cranks the rate of fire up to around 20 rounds per second. Its unique externally adjustable TDC HOP-up unit is pre-fitted with an upgraded Maple Leaf Autobot 60° silicone bucking, resulting in 50m+ accuracy with 0.36g BBs, something no other out-of-the-box GBBR can match. If you're all about a realistic experience but not at the cost of performance, the Novritsch SSQ4 M4/AR-15 GBBR should be in your sights!

Platform Details
Starting at the front, we can find a birdcage flash hider, made from aluminium with a flat black finish. The birdcage is well-suited to the AR-15 design, but beneath, you’re equipped with 14mm CCW male barrel threading, ready for a tracer unit or suppressor of your choice.
Moving rearwards, we come to the handguard, a unique Novritsch design which ties in well with the SSR4 in terms of styling. Each side is adorned with dynamic angled vent ports, which considerably reduce weight, along with M-LOK negative space attachment slots at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions. Up top, we have a 20mm Picatinny rail, ready to be kitted out.
Moving back to the receiver, we can take note of the ambidextrous fire controls, allowing left or right-handed players to take advantage of the intuitive AR-15 controls. For those with the skills, this also allows for shooting from either shoulder, ideal for tight, CQB environments.
The fire selector switch is just above the pistol grip, mirrored on either side for ease of use. Designed similarly to the KS-1 rifle, these enhanced fire selectors move smoothly between modes and click positively into place, with added texture for optimal control in wet weather.
On either side of the magazine well, we can find the mag release catch, an ambidextrous design easily accessed from either side. The bolt release catch is a similar story: a mirrored “ping pong paddle” style catch on either side, allowing you to lock the bolt back for chamber inspection and release it from the locked position after a reload.
On the right side, behind the ejection port, we have what is known as the forward assist or bolt closure device. In real steel, this allows you to force the bolt closed manually should it not go fully into battery. In Airsoft terms, this part doesn’t serve a function but is an essential part of a realistic build.
Running along the top, we have a 20mm Picatinny rail, allowing red dot sights, scopes and other 20mm Picatinny accessories to be fitted. The rail aligns perfectly with the handguard rail, giving you a sleek look and plenty of uninterrupted rail space to work with.
At the front of the rail, we can find the TDC HOP-up adjuster dial, allowing you to tune the amount of backspin applied to your BBs, seeking the flattest possible trajectory. This HOP-up is very effective, and we recommend using at least 0.36g BBs to take full advantage of its strong HOP-up effect.
At the rear of the receiver rail, we come to the charging handle, complete with latches on either side, providing ambidextrous functionality. Being a GBBR-based design, you’ll need to rack the charging handle before the first shot, and thankfully, this is easy from either side of the platform.
Moving down, we come to the trigger guard, a KS-1-style enlarged guard ideal for gloved shooters. The trigger guard also features a textured finger ledge, providing an index point for your trigger finger to encourage safe handling.
The trigger itself is a flat design, keeping aesthetics consistent across other Novritsch platforms while allowing for rapid double-taps in semi-auto mode. The front face features an ergonomic curve, ensuring your finger stays fatigue-free, even if it’s working hard!
The pistol grip is a unique design, inspired by the latest real steel AR-15 pistol grips, set at a more vertical angle than traditional AR grips to reduce wrist fatigue from modern shooting stances.
At the rear of the receiver, the SSQ4 is equipped with a QD sling plate, offering a QD sling socket on either side, ready for QD sling swivels. The plate is in an ideal spot for a single-point sling, but the slots on the handguard and stock mean you’re not short of options if you prefer a two or three-point sling.
After the sling plate, we have the 6-position M4/AR-15 buffer tube, offering 6 adjustment positions for the pre-installed TS2-style stock, featuring a well-concealed low-profile adjustment lever and two QD sling sockets on either side. The stock also features a conventional sling slot for those who prefer the old ways and a grippy rubber butt plate for superb wet-weather traction.
The QD sling sockets are present on either side, with one at the front of the stock and one at the toe, giving you the option to add a QD sling swivel to run a two-point sling. As part of its low-profile, snag-reducing design, the adjustment lever of the TS2 is a trigger-style button inside the toe of the stock, well out of the way of potential snags, so you can stay fleet-footed, even when all geared up.
Internals
Inside, the SSQ4 is considerably pre-upgraded, featuring robust steel trigger group parts and a steel bolt catch. These are parts most GBBR users upgrade to enhance durability, saving you money, time and hassle in the long term.
The inner barrel is a 6.03mm tightbore example, offering impressive accuracy and consistency. The barrel has a proprietary 8mm outer diameter, but is compatible with standard VSR/GBB style HOP-up buckings for unbridged barrels, should you feel the need to upgrade.
The bucking shouldn't need replacing, as we're generously equipped with a Maple Leaf Autobot 60° silicone example, providing an incredible HOP-up effect which demands heavy BBs. We've had fantastic results using 0.40g BBs out to 60 meters, an incredible feat for an out-of-the-box platform.
To provide adjustable FPS, an NPAS-style adjustable rocket valve is pre-installed. The NPAS allows you to adjust how much gas is directed down the barrel and how much goes into cycling the bolt, meaning you can crank up recoil and cyclic speed by sacrificing FPS or go high FPS with a slightly slower cycling bolt.
The shortened bolt design of the SSQ4 is its standout feature, allowing for insane rapid-fire performance, impressive gas efficiency, and a high rate of fire in full auto mode. While recoil is lower than the usual GBBR with a full bolt, Novritsch has a full-sized bolt due for release soon, a drop in installation ideal for recoil fiends!

Special Instructions
This is a Gas Blowback Rifle. GBBRs require maintenance and careful handling, and we do not recommend them for new skirmishers. Things to watch out for if this is your first GBBR:
- The HOP-up adjuster for this Novritsch SSQ4 GBBR is an external dial on the top of the upper receiver.
- GBBRs need to be cocked before the first shot, just like a GBB pistol. It is important that you do not double-load a GBBR, as this can break the nozzle. We recommend clearing the chamber of BBs with a cleaning rod in the event that you finish firing mid-magazine and the bolt does not lock back and show an empty chamber.
- GBBRs generally use higher-pressure gas than GBB pistols due to the extra weight of the bolt. We recommend Green Gas (NUPROL 2.0, VORSK V6, ASG Ultraair) for general use and Red Gas (NUPROL 3.0, VORSK V8) for cold weather use.
- The faster you shoot a GBBR, the less accurate it will be. This is due to pressure variance as the gas reservoir cools down. Full auto is basically for fun, and these rifles run far better when used in semi-auto mode.
- Like a GBB pistol, GBBR magazines require maintenance. We recommend leaving a small amount of gas inside the magazine when stored and not storing the magazines in a cold or damp environment. Magazine seals and valves will need lubrication and to be kept clear of dust and debris.

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
