- Full metal build - Loads of steel
- CNC Aluminium M-LOK handguard
- 16:1 High-speed gears & Programmable ETU
If you're after an AK but need a user-friendly, modern build, the SSR74 AEG from Novritsch should be in your sights! A stunner of a full-metal build with a unique CNC aluminium M-LOK handguard, the SSR74 comes in two flavours: the Long version, ideal for outdoor skirmish environments and the Short version, great for close quarters but no slouch when it comes to long-range performance.
Inside, the SSR74 is very well equipped, based around a version 3 gearbox with 16:1 high-speed gears, a CNC aluminium piston and cylinder head, a stainless steel cylinder and a beast of a high-torque motor for an impressively fast trigger. A true quick-change spring system makes power tuning easy, and an advanced ETU allows for programmable fire controls and adjustable pre-cocking.
The inner barrel is a 6.03mm tightbore paired with a unique Rotary TDC HOP-up unit, extending range out to the borderline implausible with top-notch accuracy, ready for heavy BBs (0.28g+). With a stunning rate of fire of up to 23 rounds per second with an 11.1V LiPo battery, versatile, modular externals ready for attachments and a unique look you simply can't get from aftermarket components, the Novritsch SSR74 AEG is set to be yet another banger!

Platform Details
Starting at the front, we can find a menacing muzzle brake made from steel, giving the front end a stylish modern look akin to 3-gun competition rifles. The muzzle brake suits the styling of the SSR74 overall, but can be switched out for a tracer, suppressor or alternative flash hider thanks to the common 14mm CCW male threads at the tip of the outer barrel.
Moving rearwards, we come to the handguard, an ultra-light and slim M-LOK example with a 20mm Picatinny rail running along the top, ready to be kitted out with attachments to suit the mission. The "Long" version of the SSR74 features a second 20mm rail in a stepped-down position above the usually exposed outer barrel, the perfect spot for an aiming laser, flashlight or ClipCam Cheater Catcher!
At the front of the upper handguard, we have a low-profile front iron sight, a more minimalist alternative to the usual AK sight tower. The front sight can be removed if you need extra space at the front, but its minimalist design doesn't distract from the sleek look of the SSR74 overall.
Next up, we reach the receiver assembly, closely matching the real AK-74 but obviously enhanced by Novritsch for 21st-century combat. The trunnion block is at the front, a similar design to the AK-12 but with the awkward pin which retains the top cover eliminated and replaced with a spring-loaded hinge. Two thumbs up for this user-friendly modernised AK!
Both the receiver and the receiver top cover are made from realistic stamped steel, with a bomb-proof finish which looks far nicer than thin paint finishes on cheaper platforms. The battery compartment is inside the top cover, accessible with the button at the rear pressed.
After pressing the button, the top cover will lift under spring tension, revealing the generously sized battery compartment and high-quality AMASS-branded Deans connector. We recommend an 11.1V 1200mAh LiPo battery in AK Sim Stick configuration for an easy fit and incredible 23-rounds-per-second performance!
Riveted to the top of the hinged top cover, we're treated to a 20mm Picatinny rail, ready for a red dot sight or scope of your choice. The rail runs the full length of the top cover, giving you plenty of space for whatever you choose to mount. At the rear of the rail, it's equipped with an integral rear iron sight, giving you an effective on-board aiming system in case you prefer the iron sights experience.
The fire selector switch follows the usual AK format, offering safe, fully automatic and semi-automatic fire modes, in that order. The switch itself is an extended design made from stamped steel, featuring an extra finger ledge so it can be manipulated with the trigger finger from a firing grip. This is a massive advantage compared to the usual AK in terms of speed, especially if you're a "sights on, safety off" type of skirmisher.
Above the selector, we have the mock bolt carrier, equipped with an extension for easy access and an ultra-modern look in-line with real steel custom AKs. Pulling the charging handle back and holding it in place will reveal the unique Rotary TDC HOP-up unit, an extremely effective design with a wide range of settings and easily capable of lifting heavy BBs (0.28g+).
The adjustable HOP-up allows you to tune the amount of backspin applied to your BBs, extending range, improving accuracy and allowing various BB weights to be used effectively. When adjusting, we recommend seeking the flattest possible trajectory with your chosen BB weight.
Centrally positioned on the bottom, we have the magazine release, easily accessed from either side of the SSR74, a great attribute for left or right-handed shooters. This is a standard AK-type release, allowing you to do the legendary "mag flip" AK emergency reload.
This works especially well with the SSR74 due to the angle of the enlarged trigger guard. Run your fresh mag along the trigger guard, and it will hit the mag release, sending the spent mag flying and allowing you to get back on target in seconds.
The mag release itself is made as a single part with the pistol grip, similar to the cutting-edge PPK-20 SMG, which has just entered Russian service. Its enlarged design allows easy access to the flat trigger, which itself has a super-short and light pull, ideal for rapid double taps. The grip is also far more comfortable than a legacy AK, filling out the hand comfortably with linear grooves for extra traction.
On the left side of the receiver, the SSR74 features a Russian AK-type side rail, allowing you to use Russian-style optics for AK side rails if you're planning more of an OPFOR-style setup. The side rail is firmly riveted onto the receiver, meaning it will never develop wobble and hinder your in-game accuracy.
At the rear of the receiver, we're equipped with a 1913/20mm Picatinny stock interface, allowing you to customise the SSR74 with alternative MCX and MPX-style skeleton stocks, AR buffer tubes, Visor/respirator stocks and many, many more. This is the latest up-and-coming way to mount stocks to modern platforms, a great feature to have for future-proofing.
Last but not least, we arrive at the unique Novritsch 1913 stock, a skeletonised design with a steel folding mech, and 2 QD sling sockets on each side, ready for QD sling swivels. If you're mounting a QD sling, we recommend grabbing a front sling point for M-LOK for a two-point setup to more effectively distribute the SSR74's not insignificant weight.
To fold the stock, simply press the textured button on the right side and swing it around to the left, where it will lock into place. To redeploy it, simply grab the stock and slap it back into the unfolded position, with no fiddly buttons or strong spring-loaded mechanisms to slow you down. On each side of the stock, we're treated to a recessed Novritsch logo, and at the rear, the grippy rubber butt plate enhances traction in wet weather, with or without body armour.
Internals
Inside, the SSR74 is very well equipped, easily meeting the Novritsch performance benchmark. The alloy version 3 gearbox is equipped with 16:1 ratio high-speed steel gears, a CNC aluminium piston head, a CNC aluminium cylinder head and a stainless steel ported cylinder. This pre-upgraded setup is driven by a powerful high-torque motor, resulting in a super-snappy trigger and a rate of fire of up to 23 rounds per second with an 11.1V LiPo battery.
Also inside is Novritsch's programmable ETU, allowing you to adjust pre-cocking to one of five levels to boost trigger response. The ETU also allows for binary trigger and 3-round burst modes, along with the usual improvements to electrical efficiency and prevention of trigger lockups during rapid semi-auto fire. All in all, this is a beastly platform straight out of the box, with no need to upgrade to compete with the best out there.
