Description

The Raven EU17 has been around for some time now and has been warmly received by the Airsoft community as an excellent cost-effective entry point to the world of GBB pistols, sporting full metal construction and fantastic looks, both in the hand and in the holster. This new EU17 has the same reliable internals on the inside, but now has a smooth, velvety matt pink finish applied to its slide. Its frame has also been styled up to match, and is constructed from the usual high-density injection moulded polymer, now dyed pink!

Starting with the outer barrel, we have a matt black alloy piece with a 12mm CW female thread at the tip, allowing tracer units, suppressors and other muzzle devices to be added with a 12mm to 14mm CCW thread adapter. When the slide is locked to the rear, the black barrel contrasts well with the pink finish on the rest of the pistol, giving the pistol some added flair. At the top of the slide we can find our front and rear sight, which are standard EU style white dot and white "U" sights. These sights are simple combat pistol sights, but their design is notable as the use of a dot and "U" configuration prevents the shooter from mixing up their sight dots under pressure, allowing an EU pistol with these sights to be used quickly, straight from the draw.

The rear of the slide features deep linear serrations on either side, providing plenty of purchase when racking the pistol, but remaining comfortable so you don't tear your hands up if you don't wear gloves. At the right side of the slide, we can see the mock ejection port, through which we get a glimpse of the outer barrel. To the rear of the ejection port we treated to a mock extractor, which is a separate piece for added realism. This piece is finished in matt black, together with the outer barrel and controls, which adds to the visual interest of this pistol, giving it that stylish look.

Moving to the frame, we can find a 20mm Picatinny pistol rail on the dust cover, allowing pistol lights, lasers and other 20mm Picatinny accessories to be mounted. On the rail itself, we can see the serial number plate, which is also finished in black. This plate doubles as a trigger lock safety, primarily for transportation, and can be pushed backwards to engage, or forwards to release. To the rear of the frame rail, we find the trigger guard, which in classic EU series style is shaped to aid the use of a "European grip" shooting style, with checkering on the front face for added grip. Within the trigger guard, we find the EU17s two stage trigger (where else?). This trigger works similarly to the real pistol, and cannot be pressed if the separate centre section is not also pressed. This serves to reduce the chances of an accidental discharge and means unless your finger is on the trigger, the pistol will not fire.

Above the trigger, we can see a small catch, which is mirrored on either side of the pistol. This is the disassembly catch and can be used to field strip the pistol for maintenance. To remove the slide of the pistol, simply remove the magazine, cock the slide so the hammer is back, pull down the disassembly catches on either side and push the slide forward to remove. With the slide removed, you can now access the EU17s adjustable HOP up unit, which can be used to apply backspin to your BBs, extending their range. The dial can be turned to apply additional HOP effect and can be tuned to your chosen BB weight to extend the effective range of the pistol.

The magazine release can be found on the pistol grip, on the left side, sitting comfortably beneath the shooter's thumb for fast access and a fast reload. The mag release is textured for additional grip, ensuring you never mess up your reloads. The magazine well of the Gen.4 EU series has a slight flare to it, allowing the magazine to be loaded easily. The grip of the pistol is textured on all surfaces; positively gluing the pistol to your hands, and eliminating the possibility of accidentally launching your pistol across the site when attempting a fast draw. Don't laugh, it happens! The EU17 also comes with several grip backstraps, which can be exchanged depending on the size of your hands for a comfortable trigger pull and optimum access to the controls.

If you are looking for a full metal GBB pistol, but you want something that will definitely garner attention, for good or bad reasons, choose this over the regular EU17. Show those Milsimmers that you can be tacticool, and rack up those kills and be garish/stylish(subjective) at the same time!

Special Instructions

The RAVEN EU Series magazine release can sometimes require bedding in when new. If you find the magazine of your EU series pistol falls out or does not lock into place, we suggest the following steps:

  • Tap the magazine on the baseplate firmly after insertion. This ensures the magazine catch engages with the cutout on the magazine to retain it properly. You can check whether this has worked or not by looking at the magazine release button. If the magazine is fully locked, the button should protrude on the left side and be flush with the grip on the right side.
  • Bed the magazine catch in. This can be achieved by locking the slide back and inserting and removing the magazine repeatedly several times.
