Specna Arms SA-P04 PRIME™ M4A1 CQBR AEG

If you're looking for a super advanced AEG with a military aesthetic ideal for cutting corners in CQB, then look no further! SA-P04 PRIME™ M4A1 CQBR AEG is thoroughly kitted out on the inside, featuring all the upgrades a performance-conscious skirmisher seeks in an Airsoft assault rifle. With a full metal build, official licensing from Rock River Arms, a Dark Matter brushless motor, the choice of either a pre-installed Gate ASTER II™ or HAL™ MOSFET and pre-upgraded internal parts, Specna Arms has really outdone itself!

Starting at the front, we can see a birdcage flash hider mounted to the 14mm CCW male threading at the tip of the 10.5-inch alloy outer barrel. This means the SA-P04 CQBR is ready to be kitted out with a tracer unit or suppressor, or an alternative muzzle device for a more customised look. If you are going for an MK.18 MOD.0 look, add this suppressor if you are going silent!

Next up, we come to the M4A1 style triangular front sight post, which houses the front sight and mock bayonet lug. The bayonet lug is non-functional in the CQBR configuration due to the shortened 10.5-inch outer barrel, though if you want to add one, you can mount a 4.5-inch barrel extension to allow for it. The front sight itself is adjustable for elevation using an M4/AR-15 front sight adjustment tool, and for less precise work up close, it can be used as an index point for rapid aiming when there is no time to align the sights.

Mounted to the bottom of the front sight assembly, we have our first sling point, which is a standard alloy footman loop compatible with a wide variety of sling types. This can be paired with any of the 3 rear sling mounting options to fit a two-point rifle sling to take the burden off your arms or allow for easy transitions to a sidearm. The perk of a relatively old-school design is that all the sling points are built in, meaning no extra adapters are needed!

Following the front sight, we come to the handguard assembly, which is constructed from a combination of alloy, steel and CNC-machined aluminium. The KAC RAS style handguards themselves are CNC aluminium, equipped with 20mm Picatinny rails at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock, ready for your mission essential kit to be mounted. Pre-fitted on each side of the handguard, we have KAC-style rail covers which improve ergonomics, though you can remove them if you want to mount a laser or flashlight to the side rails. To remove the rail covers, simply press in on the steel retainer and slide them off towards the front.

The handguards are held in place using a steel handguard cap at the front and an alloy delta ring at the rear. The handguards are made in two parts, allowing you to remove the lower handguard and mount an M203 launcher to the barrel for some extra firepower should the mission require it!

The modularity of the M4 platform is easily its best feature, and it is no surprise that it gained the nickname "Barbie for men" following its "SOPMOD Block 1" upgrade. This modularity also extends to exchanging external parts, and with an M4/AR-15 armourers' wrench, you can change the entire front set of the SA-P04 CQBR and make it look like practically any M4/AR-15 variant out there. Even if you don't have an armourer's wrench, the delta ring front end is compatible with any 7-inch drop-in rail system or handguard set for delta rings, so if you want to change up the looks of your CQBR, you'll be happy to learn that it can be done without a single tool!

The receiver follows the common M4 design, all the controls are in a familiar place, so adjusting to this AEG shouldn't be a challenge. Immediately, you will notice the Rock River Arms trademarks on the left side of the receiver. The logo and trademarks have been deeply engraved into the alloy receiver, so they are sure to never scratch off. Also adding to the realism of this AEG are the bolt release and forward assist; neither provides a function on the Specna Arms SA-P04 PRIME™, however, they are movable parts to reduce the common tell-tale signs of a replica.

The fire selector lever can be found just above the pistol grip, on the left side of the AEG, providing 3 modes of fire, SAFE, SEMI, and AUTO, with a 90-degree throw between each. The fire modes are helpfully marked in recessed text on the receiver and the selector switch clicks positively into each mode with the help of its textured surface. The magazine release is on the right side of the magazine well and is accessible for a right-handed user with their trigger finger or by a lefty using their off-hand thumb.

Located at the rear of the receiver, you will find the extended charging handle. Pulling back on this will pop open the steel dust cover on the right side of the AEG and retract the mock bolt. When retracted, you can access the rotary HOP-up adjuster. This is the latest HOP-up unit design for the M4/AR-15 and provides finer increments of adjustment and holds its setting more effectively when compared to the older gear-style HOP-up unit. The extended design of the charging handle allows gloved users to access their HOP-up, though you may need to remove your glove to adjust the unit!

The Specna Arms SA-P04 PRIME™ features a skeletonised flat trigger. This enhances the military aesthetic of the AEG and complements the modernity of the rest of the Airsoft rifle, not to mention the easily slappable design, perfect for snappy double taps in semi-auto. The pistol grip features diamond checkering on either side and a linear texture on the front and back, providing excellent gripping qualities for both gloved and ungloved users. As with most M4/AR-15 AEGs, this grip is compatible with aftermarket M4/AR-15 AEG grips, ideal for customisation addicts!

Moving to the final part of this AEG, we find the AR buffer tube and M4 Crane Stock. After the receiver, we find a steel buffer plate, which allows you to sling your Specna Arms SA-P04 PRIME™ on a single-point sling. The steel construction ensures that it will have the strength to support the weight of the platform, even with all the extra attachments! The buffer tube is of the common design and has 6 positions of extension, which allows you to sit the SA-P04 PRIME™ comfortably on your shoulder, whether you wear a plate carrier in game or prefer a more compact rig.

The battery compartment is inside the crane stock, accessible by squeezing the two tabs at the toe of the stock together, after which you can lift the butt plate off, remove the battery plug and make use of the stock's built-in battery compartment to house a nunchuck/crane-style battery. We are also treated to a Deans/t-plug battery connector, a lower-resistance alternative to the more common mini-Tamiya. For the SA-P04, we recommend a 7.4V 1450mAh LiPo crane/nunchuck battery for an easy fit in the stock.

Internally, the Specna Arms SA-P04 PRIME™ has a lot to boast about. The AETHER gearbox shell spine has been reinforced to ensure that it doesn't break. This is a well-known fault with V2 gearboxes, and it is good to see that Specna Arms has addressed this issue and taken matters into their own hands to make sure that it won't be a problem with this premium line of PRIME™ AEGs.

Inside the reinforced shell, we find a plethora of premium parts such as CNC 16:1 ratio steel gears running on 8mm J-CAGE bushings, a reinforced piston with a full rack of steel teeth, a reinforced tappet plate for reliable feeding, and a CNC aluminium piston head, cylinder head and nozzle for maximum long-term durability. The cylinder is also CNC machined from steel, as is the spring guide.

To match these parts, we also find the Specna Arms Dark Matter Brushless High-Speed Motor. This insane component gives the SA-P04 a truly insane rate of fire when on full auto, and the brushless design ensures that it won't overheat as easily, even after long periods of constant full auto.

Gate ASTER II Bluetooth

The Gate ASTER II is one of the most advanced ETU/MOSFET systems on the market, granting the user endless shooting customisation based on their preference. It connects to the GCS (Gate Control Station) app via Bluetooth; this is where the vast range of settings can be adjusted to make this assault rifle perfect for your play style.

It supports the high rate of fire of the SA-P04 PRIME™ and reduces the overheating and wear on internal components, plus, the trigger sensitivity and pre-cocking can be adjusted, so you can be sure that you are always first to fire in a duel. This nifty MOSFET also allows you to program fire modes to replace semi and full auto with a range of options, including burst modes of various durations and binary trigger.
