The real Glock 19X came about to meet the US Army's XM17 contest for a new sidearm to replace the venerable Beretta M9, pairing a lengthened Glock 17-sized grip with the compact Glock 19 slide. The shortened slide makes the 19X faster to draw and lighter than the Glock 17, and its lengthened frame provides improved ergonomics compared to the 19.

While the requirement was eventually filled by the Sig Sauer P320, the Glock 19X went on to be a massive hit with Civilian and Law Enforcement shooters, widely regarded as the best of both the service pistol-sized Glock 17 and the compact Glock 19, and eventually forming the basis for the Glock 45, 47 and 49. Starting at the front, we can find an alloy thread protector with 14mm CCW male barrel threading beneath. This means you can mount a tracer unit or suppressor with no need to buy an extra adapter. Given the realistic tilting barrel design of this detailed Glock replica, we recommend going for the shortest and lightest tracer or suppressor you can find to maximise gas efficiency.

At the top of the slide, we can find our front and rear sights, a set of raised "suppressor height" combat sights with anti-glare texture on the front sight post. The raised nature of these sights allows you to align them over a suppressor or tracer unit, even with a slide-mounted red dot sight.

On the right side of the slide, we can see the mock ejection port, through which we get a glimpse of the outer barrel with its contrasting black finish, adding visual interest to the overall build. The mock extractor is just behind the chamber, a separate part finished in matt black. Many replicas use a moulded-in extractor, but thankfully, Umarex has gone the extra mile when it comes to authenticity!

At the rear of the slide, we can find the optics-ready cutout designed for the included red dot mount plates. The set includes mounting plates for RMR, Delta Point Pro, Docter and C-More micro red dot sight footprints. This means you won't need to mess around sourcing the correct plate if you want to run a red dot sight; simply choose one with a compatible footprint, and you're ready to rock!

Moving to the frame, we can find a 20mm Picatinny pistol rail on the dust cover, allowing pistol lights, lasers and other 20mm Picatinny accessories to be mounted. On the rail itself, we can see the serial number plate, which is finished in silver, just like the real thing. The serial number displayed on the plate is unique to each pistol.

To the rear of the frame rail, we find the trigger guard, which matches the real Glock frame design perfectly. The guard is shaped to aid the use of a "European grip" shooting style, with checkering on the front face for added grip.

Within the trigger guard, we find the two-stage trigger (where else?). This trigger works similarly to the real pistol and cannot be pressed if the separate centre section is not also pressed. This serves to reduce the chances of an accidental discharge and means that unless your finger is on the trigger, the pistol will not fire.

Above the trigger, we can see a small catch which is mirrored on either side of the pistol. This is the disassembly catch and can be used to field strip the Glock 19X MOS for maintenance. To remove the slide of the pistol, simply remove the magazine, cock the slide so the hammer is back, pull down the disassembly catches on either side and push the slide forward to remove it from the frame.

With the slide removed, you can now access the adjustable HOP-up unit, which can be used to apply backspin to your BBs, extending their range. The dial can be turned to apply an additional HOP-up effect and can be tuned to your chosen BB weight to extend the effective range of the pistol. We recommend running 0.25g BBs, as they're great for practically any environment.

Behind the disassembly levers, we can find another of the "Gen.5" EU series enhancements: its ambidextrous slide lock/release catch. Matching previous EU series generations in terms of shape, but now mirrored on either side to allow for left-handed use, the slide lock allows you to release the slide when it locks back on an empty magazine or manually lock the slide open for chamber inspection.

The enlarged Gen.5-style magazine release is on the pistol grip, on the left side, sitting comfortably beneath the shooter's thumb for fast access and reloads. The mag release is textured for additional grip, ensuring you never mess up your reloads. The Gen.5-style mag release is very easy to access under pressure, ideal for skirmishers who like to move fast!

The grip itself matches the real 19X design, skipping the front finger ridges of previous generations in favour of a wrap-around dot texture, which provides plenty of traction for wet weather conditions, with or without gloves. At the base of the grip, the magazine well flares out slightly to allow for faster reloads under pressure, a welcome addition to this no-frills combat-optimised setup.

At the base of the grip, the Glock 19X features what is known as a lanyard loop. This is designed to be paired with a retention lanyard to tether your pistol to your belt so it doesn't get lost if it falls from your holster. This feature is common on military-style pistols and is well suited to a fast-moving, aggressive playstyle.

Inside, the Umarex GLOCK 19X MOS GBB Pistol is based on TM's designs, though we haven't yet had a chance to confirm compatibility. We can confirm that the inner barrel and HOP-up bucking are VSR/GBB spec, giving you plenty of upgrade options in terms of accuracy and range.

The highlight of the internals is the steel hammer and hammer group components, providing maximum reliability and long-term durability compared to the usual cast alloy parts.
