  • Gas Blowback Rifle - Very realistic
  • Forceful recoil - Amazing firing experience!

Are you looking for more realism from your Airsoft primary? Perhaps you are growing tired of motor noise, and a lack of recoil from your AEG? The solution is clear, add a gas blowback rifle to your armoury! The KAC PDW from WE is one of the most realistic Airsoft rifle replicas on the market, sporting a full travel reciprocating mock bolt, a realistic manual of arms including a functional charging handle and bolt catch, and bone-shaking recoil with each shot thanks to its gas blowback action. On the outside, the PDW is a very close replica of the real KAC PDW and is constructed entirely from metal, with an impressive number of steel parts. If you love realism, you'll love this one!

Description

WE is a big name when it comes to gas blowback Airsoft pistols, offering a wide range of superbly performing and well built sidearms which have rapidly become the "go-to" choice for full metal pistols due to their perfect combination of performance and cost-effectiveness. The WE gas blowback rifle series is no different, offering the advanced Airsofter with a desire for a more realistic experience and more of a challenge on the field the chance to up their game and get proficient with a realistic manual of arms. The WE KAC PDW operates exactly like the real thing; requiring the bolt catch to be pressed after each reload, feeding from real cap 30 round magazines and providing immersive recoil feedback with each shot.

Starting at the tip of the outer barrel we can find a steel KAC "Triple Tap" style muzzle brake, finished in gunmetal grey to match the real device. This muzzle device has a very unique look and follows the silhouette of the M4/AR15 birdcage but with ultra-fine ports around its circumference and the closed tip which points to his being a muzzle brake style device. This is the perfect muzzle device for the KAC PDW if you want to keep it looking factory fresh, but the 14mm CCW male threads on the steel outer barrel allow for any14mm CCW threaded attachment to be mounted, including tracer units or suppressors for a more "in the field" look.

This version of the KAC PDW is the 10 inch barreled model and features ball fluting along the entire length of the barrel which is visible through the ports on the handguard. This is one of the features of the KAC PDW design which really makes it stand out and separates it from the similar but different M4/AR15 rifle. The outer barrel is constructed from steel, as is the realistically designed dummy gas block at the front end of the handguard, giving the PDW a realistic centre of balance and a hefty and solid feel.

As we reach the handguard we can note that the KAC PDW sports a monolithic receiver, meaning the handguard is machined as a single piece with the upper receiver for maximum strength, with no seem or interruptions in the 12 o'clock Picatinny rail. This has the benefit of improving accuracy in the real KAC PDW, and also allows for longer optical sight setups to be used, which also benefits us Airsofters, especially if you like to use a red dot sight with a magnifier, or a PEQ laser device. Despite its small size, the PDW has plenty of space for mounting accessories and also boasts 20mm Picatinny rails at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions to add a vertical or angled foregrip or additional mission essentials such as a tactical flashlight. The PDW looks sleek as it is, and works well, but when fully kitted out it really comes into its own thanks to the ample rail space to add anything you need to fit your loadout.

At the front of the monolithic receiver, the handguard area, we can see weight-reducing vents machined into the surface in classic KAC style, matching their popular URX and FFR rail styles. Through the ports we get a nice glimpse of the ball fluted outer barrel, and the bolt carrier guide rods above. Whilst it looks similar to an M4/AR15, the real KAC PDW uses its own internal system and these guide rods are a central part, allowing the AR15 buffer tube to be eliminated from the design to shorten the overall length of the PDW.

On the right side of the receiver, we can find the ejection port, with the functional mock bolt carrier within. The rotary HOP-up adjuster can be found at the front of the chamber and is accessible when the bolt is locked to the rear. To lock the bolt open, rotate the fire selector to the "semi" mode. With this done, pull the charging handle all the way back, and with it held to the rear, press the lower part of the bolt catch on the left side of the receiver. The bolt should now be locked back, and you can push the charging handle back into position. The rotary HOP-up adjuster can be rotated using your fingernail, or a flat head screwdriver if you have chunky fingers.

The bolt carrier, pins and controls are all finished in a contrasting gunmetal colour, which makes them stand out and adds realism by matching the colouration of the real KAC PDW. The fire selector can be found in the same location as an M4/AR15, but is mirrored on either side to allow for right and left-handed use. The fire selector has a 90 degree throw between modes, so if you are used to the M4/AR15 fire selector you will feel right at home with the KAC PDW.

The magazine release can be found on the magazine well and is also ambidextrous allowing easy access with the trigger finger for a scorchingly fast reload. The pistol grip is found right where we would expect it and is a PDW style short pistol grip with deep dot texturing, matching the fluting on the outer barrel and mimicking the real KAC PDW perfectly. If you have your own preferred style of grip you are in luck, as the WE PDW accepts aftermarket GBBR pistol grips, and some real steel pistol grips with slight modification.

As we arrive at the rear of the receiver we can see one of the notable improvements of the KAC PDW design over the M4/AR15, the elimination of the buffer tube to allow for a side folding stock. This stock can be quickly folded using the button found on the left side of the stock hinge and locks against the receiver using a steel tab. To deploy the stock from the folding position, you don't need to press any buttons or release catches; the stock can simply be grabbed and folded out where it will lock in position. This allows the WE PDW to fit into smaller gun bags, and be operated with the stock folded in extreme close quarters environments. The butt plate of the stock is constructed from rubber and features pyramidal texture to keep the PDW locked into your shoulder in any weather condition, and help you control its incredible recoil!

The stock also includes a QD sling socket at the rear left, which comes with a pre-installed QD swivel. At the rear left of the receiver we have a QD sling socket machined in, and another at the very rear of the receiver, located where you would find the sling plate on an M4/AR15. The position at the rear of the receiver is ideal for use with a single point sling and allows ambidextrous use without ending up tangled in the sling. The QD swivel on the stock can be repositioned to any one of these 3 sling sockets by pushing the central button in, then pulling the swivel out of the socket, and can be supplemented with a 20mm railed sling mount if you prefer to use a two-point sling.

The WE PDW sports some major improvements over previous generations, including a steel bolt catch to ensure one of the best features of the gun works every time and continues to work even with heavy use. This GBBR comes with two magazines included, one M4/AR15 style and one KAC PDW style, both of the WE gen 2 variety with their single-piece internal design and improved ability to resist leaks and the "cooldown" effect. The WE GBBR system makes use of the well designed VSR-10 style HOP-up buckings and inner barrels, giving it greater than average accuracy potential to make up for the real capacity magazines, especially if you install a Maple Leaf Crazy jet!

The WE KAC PDW is compatible with either WE KAC PDW GBB magazines or WE M4/AR15 GBB magazines, so if you are loaded up on WE M4 GBB mags you will be happy to know you don't need to buy more mags. The magazine has two modes, either with the bolt lock turned on, or "dryfire" mode, which will disable the bolt lock and allow the PDW to be fired without any BBs in the mag. On the left side of the top of each mag, you will see a protruding tab, with a textured slider just in front. With the slider pushed forwards, the magazine is in "bolt lock" mode, and the tab will actuate the bolt catch mechanism inside the rifle and lock the bolt to the rear when the magazine is empty. With the slider pushed rearwards, the tab will lower into the magazine body and allow the PDW to be dry fired with the bolt catch function disabled. This is a nice feature if you use your GBBR to make videos, as it means you can show off the realistic movement of the bolt without firing BBs around your filming location.

If you are the type of player that values the experience of skirmishing over the sheer number of BBs they are able to fire over a day, a GBBR could be your weapon of choice. The WE KAC PDW would be a superb choice for anyone looking for a more uniquely styled GBBR which leans into being compact and portable, whilst still retaining compatibility with WE M4/AR15 GBBR magazines.

Many players see GBBRs as something which simply cannot compete with AEGs due to their low cap magazines, but we argue that with a change in play style, and well chosen shots, a GBBR can outshine an AEG due to its instant trigger response, and potential for excellent accuracy with a disciplined finger on the trigger thanks to the VSR style barrel and bucking compatibility. Make no mistake, this is not a gun for a new player, and is much more suited to the experienced Airsofter who wants to take their skills to the next level and challenge themselves in-game. A GBBR offers so much an AEG could never offer to a realism focussed player and outdoes any electric blowback system in its realistic feel, perfect 1:1 scale receiver and thunderous recoil that can only come from a gas-powered Airsoft rifle. If you love realism, and like a challenge, you will love the WE PDW GBBR!

Special Instructions

Please be aware that the first few shots on a freshly filled magazine will likely be above the velocity limits for most skirmish sites. When the PDW was tested we measured an average of 360 FPS with a +/-10% variance, though the velocity will drop the faster the trigger is pulled. In moderate to high temperatures the velocity may be above this, if you require a lower velocity to meet your skirmish site limits we recommend either using summer gas or looking into "Velocity Restrictor Disks" or an "NPAS" adjustable nozzle for the WE GBBR system.

This rifle cannot be put into the "SAFE" position without first cocking the action. Do not attempt to force the fire selector into the "SAFE" position. If it feels like there is resistance, first pull the charging handle back, then try again. Forcing the selector into "SAFE" without the action cocked will damage the trigger parts.
