WELL PRO MB05AE Spring Bolt Action Sniper Rifle; Upgraded Version

If you're into unique-looking sniper rifle builds packed with pre-upgraded parts, the WELL PRO MB05AE Spring Bolt Action Sniper Rifle; Upgraded Version is one to watch. An enhanced version of the original MB05, an L96-based design with a unique chassis/stock design, the MB05AE is made from stronger materials than the original and kitted out to the max internally, with little need for further upgrades.

Inside, this unique sniper rifle build has been considerably upgraded, hitting out hard at a whopping 510 FPS using 0.20g BBs and fitted with steel trigger parts, a 90° trigger sear and a 90° CNC aluminium piston to provide the robust internals necessary for a long life of high FPS goodness. The inner barrel is a 6.03mm tightbore, and the HOP-up bucking is now a VSR/GBB spec, meaning upgrades are practically limitless; exactly what a sniper rifle needs!

Starting at the front, we can take note of the straight-profile aluminium outer barrel, which suits the precision rifle styling of the MB05AE build perfectly. The outer barrel is threaded; however, we could not confirm the threading. There are aftermarket thread adapters available; just make sure it is compatible with this specific WELL PRO platform.

Following the barrel back brings us to the chassis, a unique design inspired by real steel target shooting rifles. The chassis features a squared groove running along the sides to add visual interest and an index point for your support hand, with a highly versatile adjustable stock at the rear. The chassis is constructed from super-strong high-density polymer and attaches to the action via two screws, promising a tight fit and perfect accuracy, with no chance of barrel wobble.

At the front of the chassis, we have an L96-style bipod spigot/socket, which allows Atlas-style bipods to be directly mounted, or tri-rail mounts to be fitted for more accessory options. The WELL Bipod for Picatinny rail is a great option. On the bottom front, we have yet another bipod mounting option in the form of a Harris bipod/sling stud. This allows you to fit a Harris-style bipod directly or a sling loop. Speaking of sling loops, we are treated to one on either side of the chassis front, allowing you to add a two-point sling using the rear points on either side.

To the rear of the Harris lug, we come to the magazine well. The magazine catch is located at the front of the mag well and is recessed inside, ensuring any snags don't dump your precious magazine onto the woodland floor. This is also where you access the HOP adjuster. It is inside the magwell, in front of the magazine release. Using an allen key, you can fine-tune the HOP for your desired BB weight.

Next up, we reach the receiver, which follows the typical and iconic L96 shape, a modern receiver design with angled surfaces which suit the styling of the chassis perfectly. The receiver is constructed from CNC-machined aluminium with an integrally machined 20mm Picatinny rail up top. The CNC construction means a flawlessly crisp shape and improved strength when compared to other L96 replicas with cast alloy receivers. An integrally machined 20mm Picatinny rail will not loosen over time like similar rifles with screwed-in rails.

The bolt handle is on the right side, an extended L96-style design which keeps your hand well clear of any mounted optic when in use. Being a high FPS sniper rifle, the bolt pull is quite firm, but can still be racked quickly with the stock shouldered. The safety catch can be found on the right side of the bolt, as it is on the L96, taking the form of a textured lever which can be slid back and forth to select between safe and fire. Beneath the safety, there is a red enamel dot which indicates the rifle is on "fire".

Just below, we come to the ergonomic "Target" style pistol grip, a comfortable design which conforms well to the shape of the shooter's hand. At the base of the grip, we have a palm rest which encourages a consistent hand position and helps support the palm. 

The trigger itself is a modern flat design with skeletonisation cuts, which feels very smooth when pulled and has practically no pre-travel. In front of the trigger guard, the chassis also includes an angled grip ideal for use in target shooting stances or when supporting the front of the stock on a bipod. At the rear of the grip, we can find our rear sling points, an alloy loop present on either side, ideal for a two-point sling. 

The stock itself mounts directly to the base of the grip, providing the advantages of a "thumbhole" stock design without being restrictive in handling. This stock boasts plenty of adjustment built in, so you can fit the MB05AE out to suit your body type and shooting stance perfectly.

The cheek rest can be raised and lowered by loosening the Allen bolt on the right side of the stock, lifting it up and tightening the bolt once you have it in your desired position. This is intended to ensure you have a clear view through your optical sight and a consistent cheek weld, but also has the advantage that full-face protection users can leave the cheek rest in its default position for an easier time acquiring their sights compared to rifles with fixed cheek rests. 

At the rear, we come to the rubber "target" butt plate, a concave design intended to lock firmly into your shoulder, made from rubber for optimal wet-weather traction. The butt plate can be adjusted for the perfect length of pull by turning the larger of the two dials between the stock and butt plate. When you've got the length just right, turn the smaller dial to lock in your stock setting. 

Inside, the MB05AE has been tricked out by WELL PRO, making it a massive step up from the previously released standard version. The inner barrel is a 6.03mm tightbore, giving a slight FPS boost and super accuracy when used with high-quality, heavy-weight BBs. The trigger group has also been enhanced with a 90° trigger sear and reinforced steel parts, ensuring this beast can go the distance with high FPS. The piston is CNC machined from aluminium and sealed to the piston head to reduce air leaks, and the cylinder is made from stainless steel to ensure the bolt pull is nice and smooth.

Almost all internal parts are Maruzen APS-2 L96 spec, meaning plenty of upgrade options if you want even more! The spring is APS-2 spec (9mm diameter), and the HOP-up bucking is VSR/GBB spec, giving you access to all the best options from the almost unlimited HOP-up bucking aftermarket!

Special Instructions

The WELL PRO MB05AE Bolt Action Sniper Rifle, Upgraded Version, is not supplied pre-built and will require assembly. This is relatively easy, but it is not explained clearly in the included user manual.

• First, lower the action into the chassis with the barrel slightly raised, indexing the extension at the rear of the trigger guard into the slot inside the stock.
• With this done, push the action down into the chassis until it touches the barrel at the front, taking care to ensure the magazine release assembly is aligned with the button on the outside of the chassis.
• With the action positioned in the chassis, tighten the screws behind the magazine well and trigger. Please take care not to overtighten the screw, as this can cause damage to the internals. The Allen key required is included.
