Airsoft Masterpiece Shay Akai Gator Classic 2017 Slide and Frame

Once again, Airsoft Masterpiece have made the cut with their supreme external quality! The slide and frame chosen for the Bolster Armouries Moonstone is the Shay Akai Gator Classic 2017 model, a competition-capable "standard division" style setup. The slide and frame are precisely machined from Aluminium using CNC processes, providing a high quality finish with ultra-smooth operation and intricate external details within the design.

This slide set is named for the creator of the real pistol the design takes after; Shay Akai, owner of Akai Custom Guns, a well known manufacturer of real world competition 2011 pistols. The Bolster Armouries Moonstone is intended by its creators to not only do the Akai 2011 appropriate tribute in looks but to translate their exceptional performance standards over to the Airsoft world.

The Shay Akai slide and frame depart from traditional "combat" oriented equivalents with the omission of slide serrations and the frame rail, leaving the dust cover of the frame clean for more effective control of the Moonstone with the support hand, and replacing the slide serrations with machined index points surrounded by angled grooves with dot texture between. The front index points are swept forwards, and those at the rear are swept rearwards, matching the shape of the human hand for both racking the slide from the rear and conducting a "press check" from the front. The angular look of these index points contributes greatly to the unique visual language expressed by the Bolster Armouries Moonstone.

The top of the slide is cut for standard Hi-capa sights, and between the sight dovetails the Akai slide sports anti-glare texture, arranged in an attractive chevron pattern, pairing well with the angular index points on the sides. This texture prevents ambient light from reflecting off the top of the slide and interfering with the shooter's sight picture. On the real pistol, this texture also serves to help disperse heat, reducing the chances of a heat mirage causing the sights picture to deviate.

The recoil rod within the Moonstone's slide is machined from steel to provide the necessary rigidity for this constantly moving part. The guide plug, being CNC aluminium is precisely milled and polished inside to provide smooth, friction-free slide cycling, and the high quality feel one would expect from a custom piece such as the Bolster Armouries Moonstone.

Airsoft Masterpiece Aluminium INFINITY Grip Type 6

The Airsoft Masterpiece Aluminium INFINITY Grip provides modern handling functionality together with stunning looks and dependable build quality. This grip is machined from a single piece of aluminium, providing ample strength whilst keeping the low weight and enviable ergonomics of the Moonstone platform. The grip is anodized in a classy matt silver finish, with a black grip tape style textured section to add a bit of contrast and to provide extremely effective gripping qualities.

Part of this single-piece grip module is an integrated trigger guard with a flat front face for additional recoil control and faster follow-up shots when using a target shooting style "European grip". This works in concert with the shaped finger rest below the trigger guard and the grip tape texture on the front, rear, and sides of the grip to keep the Moonstone positively glued to your hand as you use it. When it comes to enhanced pistol grips for the Hi-capa platform, there are no "one size fits all" solution, and there are as many options for this part as there are stars in the sky. The Type 6 grip was seen as the best option for handling the Moonstone with and without gloves, with its textured section being mild enough that gloves are not essential whilst affording the shooter a significant step up from a standard Hi-capa grip in ergonomics.

The grip comes with a steel extended magazine catch pre-installed, which is checkered for additional grip and cut at an angle, allowing faster engagement and a simple sweep down with the thumb to release the magazine. This departs from traditional extended magazine catch designs with the angled cut. Standard extended mag catches often require you to lift your thumb from its index point to hit the very top of the magazine catch; a far more demanding operation when under pressure than a simple sweep downwards. This is one of the many features which give the Moonstone its edge in speed.

Another feature that will save you precious seconds on the clock is the included magazine well extension. This device adds a bevelled flare to the magazine well, enabling smooth reloads and reducing the possibility of messing up when time is of the essence! This device really takes the precision out of the reload process, enabling faster reloads under pressure, and "eyes up" operation of the Moonstone. The magazine well extension also functions as a palm rest, preventing the pistol from being gripped too low and ensuring you have an effective grip, even after a scorchingly fast draw!

Light Enhancing Authentic Fibre Optic Iron Sights

The sights provided on the Bolster Armouries Moonstone are light-enhancing fibre optic iron sights, and were chosen as the best balance between speed of acquisition and accuracy. This style of sight is growing in popularity amongst Airsofters and is seen as a low profile alternative to a red dot sight; maintaining compatibility with holsters and working perfectly without the need for a battery. Many of the more affordable Airsoft pistols with light enhancing sights use coloured acrylic rods, which work fine in most lighting conditions. For the Bolster Armouries team, this is considered simply not enough to do this stunning GBB pistol justice and as such, the Moonstone comes equipped with real fibre optic inserts, contained within innovative, fully adjustable CowCow Technology sights.

The CowCow Tech Fibre optic front sight packs a considerable amount of out-of-the-box thinking into such a small physical object. The sight body is CNC machined from aluminium, and uses "parabolic sight" style technology to provide greater light transmission to the front sight's fibre optic insert by providing a highly polished surface beneath. This allows light to be collected from both the exposed upper surface of the insert and its lower surface, the result is an impressively bright and visible front sight. When installed into the front sight the insert is visible as a bright triangle, with the point facing upwards, providing both a bright front sight for rapid, reflex aiming and a highly visible, yet precise point of aim for smaller targets, and targets at a longer range. The precision machining of this part provides a perfect fit, eliminating the possibility of the sight moving around under the recoil forces of firing.

The Moonstone rear sight comprises two parts; the CowCow Aluminium rear sight and Fibre optic rear sight plate. The CowCow rear sight is fully adjustable for both windage and elevation, both functions of which can be adjusted using a flat head screwdriver. The screw on the top surface of the rear sight controls the elevation adjustment, and the screw on the right side of the sight adjusts the windage. The Fibre optic rear sight plate attaches to the rear sight in place of the standard flat Hi-capa rear sight plate, and provides authentic red fibre optic inserts which work in perfect harmony with the green fibre optic insert in the CowCow Fibre optic front sight.

CowCow Technology was founded in 2018, with the intention of providing high quality, innovative parts for Airsoft RIFs intended for both skirmishing and Action Air competitions. CowCow's focus is primarily on GBB pistols, and they are rapidly gaining the reputation as the go-to source for high end Hi-capa, AAP-01, and G series pistol parts for builds which require higher performance than the standard skirmish sidearm, as well as exceptional durability for long term use. This lies directly in line with the stated objectives of the Bolster Armouries Hi-capa series, and as such many of the components considered the "beating heart" of a premium GBB build have been entrusted to CowCow components. The internal springs of the Bolster Armouries Moonstone have been replaced with CowCow alternatives to raise its cyclic rate, improve its gas efficiency and guarantee the durability expected from a high quality custom Airsoft gun.

The Trident sear spring has been installed, providing a smooth, crisp and light trigger pull and guaranteeing consistent hammer-knocker engagement. CowCow’s Competition buffer spacers have been installed, to shorten the slide travel to gain the absolute pinnacle of cycle speed as well as to reduce wear on the inside of the slide and frame by absorbing some of the energy of the two parts impacting with each shot Bolster Armouries RIFS come set up with the perfect number of buffers within. These spacers are constructed from oil-resistant rubber which prevents the spacers from swelling and providing inconsistent performance.

To further improve the trigger feel of the Moonstone, the CowCow hammer power regulator has been installed, and finely tuned to provide improved reliability with green gas, and a consistent and powerful hammer stroke. The power regulator is CNC machined from stainless steel and its spring is constructed from high strength spring steel to maintain the impressive performance and reliability of the Moonstone for its entire lifespan.
