The Obsidian is Bolster Armouries tactical Hi-capa offering, sporting the competition worthy internals expected from Bolster in a combat optimised form. Intended to fulfill the role of both a sidearm and a primary handgun, the Obsidian is equipped with a full length dust cover with a 20mm Picatinny rail and a threaded barrel, together with raised anti-glare sights for use with a suppressor. 

The Obsidian has been fully rebuilt with a smattering of CowCow Technologies and Airsoft Masterpiece parts, down to every spring and small internal part to provide a flawlessly crisp trigger pull and extremely consistent performance, even when rapid fired. These high end internal parts are professionally installed within one of the most precisely machined slide and frame kits available, the highly sought after "S" Style Tactical Slide kit from Airsoft Masterpiece.

Airsoft Masterpiece S Style Tactical Slide and Frame 

The slide and frame set chosen for Bolster Armouries "Combat" style pistol, the Obsidian, is the Airsoft Masterpiece S Style tactical slide kit. This slide and frame provide a plethora of combat style features combined with custom Hi-capa styling, giving the Obsidian a tactical look whilst still availing it of the advantages of a lightweight slide and the exceptional performance the enhanced Bolster internals provide. 

The side is CNC machined from aluminium, providing an exceptional frame-to-slide interface for smooth cycling and tight tolerances throughout. The front end of the slide features 3 ports on either side, and an additional 3 ports on the top which serve to reduce the weight of the slide and improve the pistol's cyclic rate. The area surrounding the ports on the side has has had relief cuts milled in, providing a rudimentary control surface for "press checks" and racking the slide from the front. Between these ports, the slide has weight-reducing grooves to take out that last bit of unnecessary weight to provide competition style swift performance in a combat equipped package. The rear of the slide includes deep serrations which are semi circular in profile, providing a comfortable and effective point of control for the Obsidian, ensuring your hand will never slip off the slide. The profile of these serrations matches with that of the relief groove surrounding the front slide ports to round off the look of the slide whilst providing the necessary functionality for a combat GBB. 

At the top of the slide, we can find the sights of the pistol which are machined from steel for a precise form and the necessary strength to guarantee a reliable zero. The front sight takes the form of an anti-glare front blade with linear serrations to ensure the sight is visible in any ambient lighting condition. The rear sight is a combat style open sight with anti-glare serrations on its rear surface, which aligns perfectly with the front sight blade for an effective, no frills combat style sight setup. These sights are also slightly raised, allowing them to work with a slim pistol style suppressor or compact tracer unit, should you choose to add one. These sights are styled after Heinie "Ledge Tactical Sights" and are intended to provide a robust sight system that can be used to cock the pistol without upsetting the zero whilst providing additional ambient light transfer thanks to the additional width of the initial part of the sight notch. This allows the front sight to be acquired much more quickly than traditional combat sights, thanks to this modern and thoughtful design. 

To provide the function to go along with the combat styling, the Obsidian has been equipped with an Airsoft Masterpiece threaded outer barrel. This barrel is constructed from steel and features a hairline copper coating, providing that ever-recognisable "black slide, gold barrel" custom combat pistol aesthetic. The barrel is visible through the ports on the slide, marking the Obsidian out as a custom piece. The barrel comes with integrated 14mm CCW male threads, giving the Obsidian user the option to suppress their pistol, or add a tracer unit when the situation calls for it. As the pistol comes, the threads are protected by an aggressive looking knurled thread protector which also sports the hairline copper coating, giving the Obsidian a silhouette which signals its combat oriented setup. The outer barrel is also visible through the pistol's mock ejection port on the right side, and features "9x19" markings crisply engraved; a nod to the original pistol the Obsidian is based on. The outer barrel has a "bull barrel" style straight profile which is intended to provide additional accuracy and heat management in a real handgun, and adds to the menacing look of the Obsidian when the slide is locked to the rear. 

The recoil rod and plug within the Obsidian's slide are both machined from steel to provide the necessary rigidity for these constantly moving parts. Both pieces are precisely milled and polished inside to provide smooth, friction-free slide cycling, and the high quality feel one would expect from a custom piece such as the Bolster Armouries Obsidian. 

The Airsoft Masterpiece S Style frame features a full length dust cover, departing from the old school 1911-esque looks of a short dust cover and giving the Obsidian a squared off, modern appearance. The dust cover also features a 20mm Picatinny rail, allowing tactical flashlights, laser aiming modules, and other accessories to be added to the Obsidian should the mission require it. The rail provides a total of 6 slots for attachment, which is ample for practically any accessory to fit with ease. This is an essential addition for a combat pistol as the Obsidian is intended to perform as both a sidearm and as a primary pistol, and a central part of this is being able to be equipped with whatever mission-essential equipment is necessary. 

Airsoft Masterpiece Edge Custom INFINITY Aluminium Grip

The Airsoft Masterpiece Edge Custom grip is one of the most stand out features of the Obsidian, and has its own unique style which will definitely draw curious eyes, whether it is at a skirmish or shooting competition. The grip is machined from a single piece of aluminium, and gives the Obsidian a bespoke modern look with its dot texturing which wraps around the entire grip, including the mainspring housing at the rear. The dot texturing provides a comfortable hold and keeps the Obsidian securely in your hands as the pistol cycles. The dot texture continues on the magazine well extension, tying the parts together and giving the overall impression of a very well thought out custom pistol, both in its looks and performance. Each side of the grip has a cutout, known as the "Mobius cut". This cut-out adds a high-speed, custom style to the already distinctive Obsidian, giving it an air of individuality you can only get with a custom Airsoft pistol. The Mobius cut doesn't just serve an aesthetic purpose; it also helps reduce weight and keep the Obsidian lightweight and nimble.

This grip includes an integrated trigger guard with a flat front face for additional recoil control and faster follow-up shots. The trigger guard on the Edge Custom grip also includes deep undercuts for your support hand and strong hand fingers, allowing you to take a higher grip on the pistol for more intuitive aiming and reduced muzzle flip. The strong hand undercut smoothly transitions to a single finger groove, intended to ensure your grip is effective whilst remaining comfortable. 

The grip comes with a steel extended magazine catch pre-installed, which is checkered for additional grip and cut at an angle, allowing faster engagement and a simple sweep down with the thumb to release the magazine. This departs from traditional extended magazine catch designs with the angled cut. Standard extended mag catches often require you to lift your thumb from its index point to hit the very top of the magazine catch; a far more demanding operation when under pressure than a simple sweep downwards. The steel construction of the mag catch guarantees effective retention of the magazine and a consistent height for the gas route bucking; contributing to the Obsidian's impressive gas efficiency. 

At the base of the grip, the Obsidian provides one of the best parts for improving reload speed; a magazine well extension, complete with a wide inner bevel. This device enables smooth reloads and reduces the possibility of messing up when time is of the essence. This part is finished in a "bushed Aluminium" effect, providing a little bit of subtle contrast to the set and only adding to its beauty. The extension has a machined dot texture on either side, matching this part to the pistol grip perfectly. The magazine well extension also functions as a palm rest, preventing the pistol from being gripped too low and ensuring you have an effective grip, even after a scorchingly fast draw!

CowCow Technology was founded in 2018, with the intention of providing high quality, innovative parts for Airsoft RIFs intended for both skirmishing and Action Air competitions. CowCow's focus is primarily on GBB pistols, and they are rapidly gaining the reputation as the go-to source for high end Hi-capa, AAP-01, and G series pistol parts for builds which require higher performance than the standard skirmish sidearm, as well as exceptional durability for long term use. This lies directly in line with the stated objectives of the Bolster Armouries Hi-capa series, and as such many of the components considered the "beating heart" of a premium GBB build have been entrusted to CowCow components.

The internal springs of the Bolster Armouries Obsidian have been replaced with CowCow alternatives to raise its cyclic rate, improve its gas efficiency, and guarantee the durability expected from a high end custom piece. The Trident sear spring has been installed, providing a smooth, crisp, and light trigger pull and guaranteeing consistent hammer-knocker engagement. 

CowCow's Competition recoil buffer spacers have been installed, to shorten the slide travel to gain the absolute pinnacle of cycle speed as well as to reduce wear on the inside of the slide and frame by absorbing some of the energy of the two parts impacting with each shot. These spacers are constructed from oil-resistant rubber which prevents the spacers from swelling and providing inconsistent performance.

To further improve the trigger feel of the Obsidian, the CowCow hammer power regulator has been installed, and finely tuned to provide improved reliability with green gas, and a consistent and powerful hammer stroke. The power regulator is CNC machined from stainless steel and its spring is constructed from high strength spring steel to maintain the impressive performance and reliability of the Obsidian for its entire lifespan.
