  • Full metal build
  • Upgraded internal parts
  • L96 / L118A1 / AWP Replica

If you're looking for a high-quality L96 replica with pre-upgraded internals, the CYMA CM.706-U L96 Spring Sniper Rifle; Upgraded Version should be in your sights! A full metal build inspired by the real steel L118A1, the standard sniper rifle of the British Army, the CM.706 boasts two options for bipod mounting, a side folding stock for easy storage, a 20mm Picatinny receiver rail for your optic and a mock magazine to complete the realistic look.

Inside, this impressive piece boasts a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, 90-degree sear, an aluminium with a rubber head, an aluminium spring guide and a robust steel cylinder with a brass cylinder head, giving it the hard-wearing parts to last a lifetime of pulling back hard springs without needing upgrades.

With these upgrades on board, this L96 hits out at bang on the 500 FPS limit using 0.20g BB. This means you'll likely never need to upgrade it, but tuning may be necessary before hitting the field if you attend a site with a stricter limit for sniper platforms. Whether you're a fan of the AWP in CS: GO or you need an L118A1 replica to complete your British Army collection, the CYMA CM.706-U L96 Spring Sniper Rifle; Upgraded Version will definitely impress you!

Full description

Description

Starting at the front, we can take note of the straight-fluted aluminium outer barrel, keeping the looks in line with the latest L96 variant in British Army service, known as the L118A1. Barrel fluting serves to reduce weight and improve cooling properties in real steel form, a recognisable feature of a well-designed precision rifle.

Following the barrel back brings us to the chassis, a perfect match for the real Accuracy International L96 chassis, complete with finger grooves at the front for improved handling and a thumbhole stock with an adjustable cheekpiece and butt plate at the rear. The chassis is constructed from super-strong high-density polymer and attaches to the action via 3 screws, promising a tight fit and perfect accuracy, with no chance of barrel wobble.

At the front of the chassis, we have an L96 bipod spigot/socket which allows Atlas-style bipods to be directly mounted, or tri-rail mounts to be fitted for more accessory options. The set includes a spigot pre-installed inside the socket, giving you one less thing to buy if you're going for an Atlas-style bipod.

On the bottom front, we have yet another bipod mounting option in the form of a Harris bipod/sling stud. This allows you to fit a Harris-style bipod directly or a sling loop if you prefer the centrally mounted "infantry" style sling position as opposed to the side-mounted "cavalry" position. Speaking of sling loops, we are treated to one on either side of the chassis front, made from robust steel and allowing you to add a two-point sling using the rear points on either side.

To the rear of the Harris lug, we come to the magazine well. The magazine catch is located at the front of the mag well and is recessed inside, ensuring any snags don't dump your precious magazine onto the woodland floor. The grub key adjuster for the HOP-up unit is inside the magazine well, in front of the magazine release itself and accessible using an Allen key.

Behind the magazine well, we come to the dummy magazine well, a thoughtful addition for realism included on very few L96 replicas. This is where the real L96/L118A1 loads from, but Airsoft internals limit where a functional mag is positioned. To cure this, CYMA has equipped a second mag release and includes a steel dummy mag in the box, perfect for realism fans!

Next up, we reach the receiver, which follows the L96 shape perfectly with its angled surfaces and modern aesthetics. The receiver features a 20mm Picatinny rail up top, ready for your choice of rifle scope. This is a nice, long rail, unlike most VSR-10 rifles, meaning if you want to go big with your optic, you don't need to hold back!

On the rear of the bolt, you will notice a small red protrusion in the centre; if the rifle is cocked, that is! This is the cocked/uncocked indicator, a thoughtful aspect of the L96 design which allows you to see and feel whether or not the rifle is ready to take that all-important shot.

The safety catch can be found on the right side of the bolt, as it is on a standard L96, taking the form of a textured lever which can be slid back and forth to select between safe and fire. Slide it forward to lock the trigger, and rearward to unlock it. This safety is well positioned and easy to work with minimal movement, just what a sniper rifle needs.

The trigger itself also features a safety device similar to those found on Glock pistols, designed to prevent the rifle from shooting if the central blade is not depressed. This prevents accidental discharges from gear and foliage snags, while allowing you to rest your finger on the trigger without risking shooting by mistake.

As we arrive at the rear, we can find one of the most recognisable aspects of the L96 external design, its multi-adjustable side folding thumbhole stock. Replacing the fixed stock of the original L96, the new stock is based on the real steel "AWF" stock for the L96 and can now be folded to the left side for transportation and storage.

The thumbhole stock design is remarkably comfortable, and a massive step up from conventional rifle stocks when shooting in the prone position. The grip is an ergonomic shape and supports the hand well, with no odd protrusions on either side, making it usable for both left and right-handed shooters.

The cheekpiece can be raised and lowered to provide the perfect view through your optical sight or removed entirely if you use a full face mask. Cheekpiece adjustments can be applied via a pair of thumb screws on the right side; simply loosen them up, lift the cheekpiece to where you need it and then tighten the thumb screws to lock the cheekpiece in place.

The butt plate can also be shortened to suit those who wear body armour by removing the spacer between it and the chassis. To do this, remove the screws holding the butt plate on, remove the entire assembly and remount it when set to your chosen length by removing the spacers. The butt plate itself is made of grippy rubber with a comfortable shape, ensuring the rifle stays locked into your shoulder in all weather conditions.

On the bottom of the stock, we are treated to a collapsible monopod, allowing you to set the CM.706 up on uneven ground without the excess effort of holding the stock horizontally. This works well with a bipod, but if you prefer to keep your setup minimalist and agile, you can unscrew the monopod to save weight. This stock has been widely praised both in Airsoft and the real world, and we all love it for the iconic L96 look.
