- M-LOK handguard - The latest L85!
- Programmable MOSFET and mag cut off
If you're into the current British Army look, this should be your primary! The G&G Armament L85A3 M-LOK AEG is an amazing replica of the latest SA80 that has been seen in real steel, with an M-LOK handguard replacing the previous KeyMod design. This makes the L85 more streamlined than ever before. Although people like to poke fun at this rifle, changes and enhancements like these should be appreciated when they come!
This beast boasts full metal construction and incredible attention to detail, making it as suitable for skirmishing as it is for display in a museum! The lower and upper receivers are both made from stamped steel, with the latest A3 M-LOK handguard and 20mm Picatinny top rail being CNC machined from aluminium for a flawless form and perfectly in-spec attachment interfaces.
Inside, the L85A3 is based around a unique split gearbox with the G3 MOSFET, providing programmable fire modes through specific trigger presses. Plus, it prevents trigger lock-ups for a ferocious semi-auto response rate. If you're working on a futureproof British Army loadout and need the rifle to finish it off, there isn't a better option than the G&G Armament L85A3 M-LOK AEG.

Description
Whether you’re drawn to iconic British service rifles or you want the most modern British loadout available, the G&G Armament L85A3 M-LOK AEG delivers in every way. Built with full-metal construction, a stamped-steel receiver, and a CNC-aluminium A3 M-LOK handguard paired with a monolithic 20mm Picatinny top rail, this rifle looks, feels, and performs like a true modern service platform.
The real steel L85A3 represents the latest evolution of the British Army’s legendary SA80 platform, upgraded with a lightweight M-LOK handguard and a monolithic Picatinny receiver rail. These improvements dramatically enhance ergonomics and accessory compatibility. G&G has faithfully recreated this update, complete with the correct Matt Desert Tan finish, making it ideal for a contemporary British squaddie impression alongside MTP camouflage.
Starting at the muzzle, we find the classic SA80-style birdcage flash hider. Constructed from steel and fixed directly to the outer barrel, it mirrors the real rifle perfectly, though this means it cannot be removed to accommodate alternative muzzle devices or suppressors. The alloy outer barrel measures the correct 20 inches overall, but thanks to the bullpup layout, the L85A3 remains surprisingly agile, even in CQB environments.
Moving rearwards brings us to the standout feature of the latest A3 upgrade, the slimline M-LOK handguard. Machined from a single piece of CNC aluminium, it is far lighter and sleeker than earlier L85 handguards, improving balance and snap-shooting performance. M-LOK slots are present on both sides, with integrated 20mm Picatinny rails on the top and bottom for immediate accessory mounting. The upper rail aligns seamlessly with the receiver rail, creating a continuous platform perfect for optics, lasers and night vision devices.
As part of the real A3 programme, the British Army adopted a welded monolithic Picatinny rail in place of the older STANAG dovetail. G&G has replicated this accurately, giving you a modern 20mm rail directly mounted to the receiver. The rail is CNC machined from aluminium, features numbered slots for repeatable optic placement and blends perfectly with the handguard rail for a clean, uninterrupted setup.
Below the receiver, the bullpup control layout comes into play. The pistol grip, trigger guard and safety are positioned forward, as per the real platform. The pistol grip includes an internal storage compartment originally intended for the SA80 tool, but here it cleverly houses the battery. Removing the base cover reveals a mini-Tamiya connector inside.
We recommend an 11.1V 600mAh 20/40C PDW-style stick battery for the easiest fit, though slightly larger batteries may also work. The steel trigger guard surrounds the distinctive A2 snow-cutter trigger, designed on the real rifle to clear debris and perfectly suited to the A2 and A3 variants.
The safety catch is a push-through button located above and forward of the grip on the right side. It is ideally placed for right-handed shooters to operate with the trigger finger during presentation. When on safe, the button protrudes from the right, and when live, it protrudes from the left. This controls the safe and fire, while the fire selector itself is positioned further rearward.
Continuing rearwards, we reach the heart of the rifle. The magazine well is located on the underside and is constructed from stamped steel, welded directly to the receiver for durability. The magazine release sits on the left side and is protected by a reinforced fence, a feature introduced on the real A2 to prevent accidental magazine loss during movement.
The enlarged A3-style charging handle is included in the box, ready to be mounted for maximum authenticity. On the real rifle, it allows the platform to be cocked overhand or underhand and also acts as a brass deflector. Whilst mostly just for cosmetic purposes on the AEG, it adds a huge amount of realism and completes the standard issue A3 profile.
The adjustable HOP-up unit is accessed via the ejection port by pulling and locking back the charging handle. Inside, you’ll find a rotary-style adjuster that allows precise tuning for different BB weights, helping you achieve the flattest and most consistent trajectory possible. Although the unit itself is unique, it accepts standard AEG inner barrels and buckings, making upgrades simple.
Just behind the dust cover is the green bolt lock catch. On the real rifle, this allows the bolt to be locked open for inspection and stoppage drills. It works similarly on this G&G replica, allowing you to lock the bolt open for HOP inspection and then push the bolt catch to return the mock bolt with a satisfying metal clank.
The fire selector switch is located at the rear left of the stock and offers semi-automatic and fully automatic fire modes. Semi is marked with an R for Repetition, while full auto is marked with an A for Automatic, staying true to British military markings. Thanks to the preinstalled G&G G3 MOSFET, programmable burst modes are also available.
Above the selector sits an olive green polymer cheek rest, providing a comfortable cheek weld when using the included flip-up iron sights. These HK-style irons deploy easily and are fully adjustable for both windage and elevation, offering a robust backup sighting option.
At the rear of the rifle, a textured rubber butt plate provides excellent shoulder grip and comfort. Sling points are present on both sides and are ideal for use with an SA80 sling, though other hook-style slings can be fitted with paracord. The curved butt plate design fits naturally into the shoulder for stable shooting.
Internally, the L85A3 features G&G’s unique split gearbox design, developed specifically for L85-style platforms. It offers solid reliability and easier maintenance. It is paired with the G3 MOSFET, which provides programmable burst modes, pre-cocking adjustment and active braking for a crisp trigger response.
This updated version removes the electric blowback found on earlier models and instead introduces a magazine power disconnect feature. The rifle will not cycle without a magazine inserted, adding another layer of realism to operation.
If you’re a fan of British service rifles and want the most modern and tactical incarnation of the L85 platform, the G&G Armament L85A3 M-LOK AEG is hard to beat. With its aggressive handguard, authentic controls and upgraded internals, it is a high-performance AEG that looks every bit the part of the latest British Army service rifle.
