Description
About the real AKS-74UN "Krinkov"
The original AKS-74UN was conceived in the early 1980s, designed as a short-barreled PDW version of the AK-74 to be issued to Spetsnaz special forces, tank crews and helicopter pilots. Serving with Spetsnaz equipped with the PBS-4 suppressor as the "AKS-74UB", until being replaced by the AK-105, the AKS-74U is a Cold War icon, and its unique, aggressive look keeps it iconic to this day.
While no longer in front-line service with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the AKS-74U has a massive cult following in the US amongst civilian shooters, who know this platform as "Krinkovs" or "Krinks". US civilian Krinkovs are used for everything from home defence to 3-gun competition shooting and tactical training, often seen as a more reliable and robust alternative to AR-15 platforms.
The name Krinkov originated from the Afghan Mujahideen, who regarded the platform as a status symbol due to its rarity and being carried only by elite troops. To further its credentials in the fictional realm, the AKS-74U was also used by James Bond himself in the opening scene of Goldeneye (1995).

Platform Details
Starting at the tip of the sturdy steel outer barrel, we find the AKS-74U-style gas booster muzzle device, mounted to the 24mm CW threads integrated into the front sight and gas block assembly. The muzzle device follows the correct Cold War-era AKS-74U pattern, lacking the external ribs found on later variants.
The front sight is adjustable for elevation using the included sight tool and is integrated into the combined gas block/front sight assembly, one of the defining features of the AKS-74U platform. Constructed from robust steel, the assembly boasts exceptional machining and a gorgeous finish throughout. A built-in sling point on the left side is ready for use with a two-point sling.
Moving rearwards, we come to the CNC aluminium 20mm Picatinny handguard. This modern interface contributes to the "custom" styling of the TX-S74UN. While the original AKS-74U used traditional wooden furniture, the addition of Picatinny rails provides far greater versatility for accessories and modern battlefield practicality.
Behind the handguard sits the trunnion block, faithfully replicating the real AKS-74U-specific design. This component secures the barrel to the receiver while also acting as the hinge point for the top cover. Naturally, it is manufactured from steel and finished to resemble the corrosion-resistant paint commonly seen on Cold War-era AK rifles.
The battery compartment is located beneath the receiver top cover and can be accessed by pressing the rear locking button, allowing the cover to hinge open. Inside, you'll find a Deans connector for battery installation. Attached to the wiring is your ASTER II code, which can be used to customise settings through the Gate Control Station (GCS) app.
Once your battery is connected, simply close the top cover and allow the spring-loaded locking button to secure it in place. For the LCT AKS-74UN, we recommend a 7.4V 1000mAh AK stick LiPo battery, which provides an excellent fit with room to spare.
Looking at the receiver itself, authentic rivets and mock rivets are positioned exactly where they would be found on the real firearm. Details like this add another layer of realism for those seeking the most faithful replica possible. The finish is superb, offering a realistic blued appearance rather than the more common painted look.
One of the most impressive aspects of the LCT receiver is its thick stamped steel construction. While many Airsoft AKs use stamped steel receivers, most rely on thinner material to reduce weight and manufacturing costs. LCT goes a step further with exceptionally thick steel, resulting in a level of realism that stands out immediately when compared to competing designs.
As expected from LCT, every detail of the receiver has been carefully recreated. Separate mock pins and rivets feature contrasting finishes which help each element stand out. Reinforcement dimples are present on both sides, replicating the strengthening features found around the magazine well of the real rifle.
On the left side of the receiver, we find the Russian AK side rail, realistically riveted in place. On the real firearm, this feature gives the AKS-74UN its "-N" designation, derived from the Russian word Nochnoy (Ночной), meaning "night". In Airsoft form, the side rail accepts either Russian optics or side-mounted Picatinny rail adaptors.
Just behind the side rail is the stock release button. Pressing it unlocks the mechanism and allows the stock to fold neatly to the left side of the rifle. As with the real AKS-74UN, side-mounted optics prevent the stock from folding, though many compatible mounts are quick-detach designs which can be removed without losing zero.
On the right side, we find the familiar AK controls. The charging handle is machined as part of the steel mock bolt carrier and features the correct black finish seen on real AK-74 rifles. Pull it back and enjoy the distinctive metallic clank that AK enthusiasts know and love.
Holding the charging handle to the rear reveals LCT's updated rotary HOP-up unit. The top-mounted adjustment wheel allows precise tuning for different BB weights in pursuit of the flattest possible trajectory. Its top dead centre design also helps minimise side-to-side deviation for improved consistency.
Just behind the charging handle sits the AK fire selector, which also acts as a dust cover when placed in the safe position. This prevents debris from entering the receiver while maintaining complete realism. The selector follows the traditional AK layout of Safe, Auto and Semi.
This arrangement was originally chosen on the AK-47 to make deliberate full-auto selection less likely while allowing a quick sweep between safe and semi-automatic. The result is intuitive handling and rapid "sights on, safety off" operation. Built from steel, the selector is designed to withstand years of heavy use.
Beneath the receiver, we find the steel trigger guard and magazine release assembly, paired with a tactical black polymer pistol grip. The grip follows the classic AK-74 pattern and features diamond checkering on both sides for improved control. While it lacks the iconic plum finish, it suits the custom tactical aesthetic perfectly.
The magazine release is centrally positioned and accessible from either side, making reloads equally convenient for left- and right-handed users. As expected, the entire assembly is steel and riveted to the receiver in the same manner as the real rifle.
At the rear of the rifle sits the iconic steel folding stock, complete with a sling point on the right side. Manufactured from durable stamped steel, the stock delivers the same rugged feel as the real firearm. Like the rest of the LCT construction, its thicker steel and flawless finish place it a step above many competitors. The steel butt plate completes the authentic design, though those seeking additional shoulder grip can fit an Element Rubber Butt Pad.
Internals
Inside, this flawless AK build is based around the version 3 gearbox with TM-compatible internals, ideal for the techy types. Gearbox internals include 18:1 ratio steel gears running on 9mm ball bearing bushings, a steel ball-bearing quick change spring guide, a POM piston with a full steel tooth rack and a powerful 22K RPM motor. The result is a super-smooth running gearbox, with little left to improve!
This version of the LCT AKS-74UN builds on LCT's usual robust internals by adding the advanced Gate ASTER II Bluetooth® ETU, the latest variant of Gate's optical trigger system. The ASTER II provides a wide range of programmable fire modes, trigger sensitivity settings and adjustable parameters, all of which can be adjusted through the Gate Control Station (GCS) app via Bluetooth. Having an ASTER II on board is a hallmark of a premium build, the perfect pairing for LCT's incredible external quality.

LCT AKs have a very tightly fitted fire selector switch, and most of our examples have the classic AK fire selector switch scratch. This is an unavoidable consequence of testing at the factory, and will develop over time, regardless of how careful you are. Please consider this carefully before making your purchase.
