  • Suave stylings
  • Perfectly weighted

Suave and sophisticated without being gaudy, the Gold Match is crafted to perfection by the absolute masters of Airsoft - Tokyo Marui. If you’ve been looking for a Hi-Capa with an understated style that handles and functions like an absolute dream, this is certainly one to consider.

This 5.1 is constructed from lightweight polymer, but don’t let that put you off as it has been moulded and polished to perfection, you’d barely even know it was polymer. Moreover, the polymer build will not only perform better in the cold than its alloy counterparts but will be more consistent, allowing you to shoot straight every time and always hit your mark.

Description

Tokyo Marui has been in the Airsoft game for a long time, and since Airsoft originated in Japan, the company has had ample time to refine and perfect its pistols and, of course, this offering bears the fruit of their labour - in style. The Gold Match is a 5.1 Hi-Capa for the more sophisticated Airsofter with a base colour of black and gold furnishings. Usually gold can be a little gaudy, but the Gold Match plays it just right by having it be an accent, simply glinting out from beneath the slide and body of the pistol.

The pistol is constructed mostly from polymer, which can be a turn-off for some Airsofters, but the Gold Match will be sure to convince you otherwise. There are a multitude of reasons where a polymer slide trumps an alloy. Firstly it is ultra-lightweight, meaning you can rapid fire like an absolute fiend, hitting as many marks as you can aim or eliminating several hostiles with immediate effect. Another advantage of a polymer pistol, specifically the slide, is that it functions a lot more effectively in the cold, because the slide is lighter and requires less gas to cycle. Alloy slide users will tell you otherwise but polymer pistols such as the Gold Match are more consistent, shot to shot, which means you can be more confident in your accuracy due to less kick back, meaning your shots will always shoot straight and true without spraying every which way.

Starting at the very tip of the barrel we can see that this Hi-Capa sports a 14mm thread, which is always a a useful feature, especially considering the popularity of suppressors and tracer units. Easily screwed on, these muzzle devices can transform your Gold Match into the perfect piece for the classy and sophisticated assassin, and since most devices of this nature are black, they will blend seamlessly into the style of the Gold Match.

One of the first bits of bling is the barrel, hiding under the slide, just shining through in a low-key manner. The barrel can be visible at the very tip of the slide, just ahead of the rail, from the chamber and from within the cut grooves of the slide. The unique cut grooves of the slide from the top give you the best of both worlds - ie. You can stand out from the crowd in an understated fashion without being gaudy, no doubt, the design is as sleek as a Hi-Capa can get.

The slide is constructed from lightweight polymer, which is where the Match from Gold Match comes from. The slide being polymer, as opposed to alloy will give you way better consistency when shooting, so if you take this pistol into a match, or skirmish, you’ll be shooting dead straight with no issue every time, while your alloy slide wielding brethren will be shooting up-down, left-right all over the shop. The slide sports a glossy look that is almost indistinguishable from alloy and features engravings with the calibur on either side, that not only adds a little realism but makes the slide that bit more attractive.

Another feature of the slide is the cut groove indentations, which feature prominently either side at the front and the rear. This not only adds to the aesthetic, but also provides additional friction when racking the slide with or without gloves, allowing for ultra-quick shots and potential targets hit.

At the top of the slide, we can find the fibre optic light-enhancing front iron sight, which works in tandem with the adjustable rear sight. The front sight is incredibly clear with an orange insert for a perfect sight picture which is easy to acquire quickly and should stand out in all but the darkest conditions. The rear sight is fully adjustable for both windage and elevation, adjusted at the top and the side.

Underneath the slide is the pistol rail and being a Hi-Capa, the Gold Match’s measures approximately 6cm to be used for various tactical devices such as torches if you ever fancy taking your 5.1 on those more spec-ops style missions.

For those of you sport shooters out there, do we have the trigger for you! The trigger is a straight-back trigger, which means that it’s light and responsive with a crisp reset as well as being skeletonised to reduce the already light weight to be even lighter. This is perfect for those of you doing competition shooting or for those of you that want to get a leg up on the skirmish field.

The trigger housing has ample room for even the thickest of fingers and features a diamond-stippled texture on the front, inkeeping with the front of the slide. The front texturing is useful for when holding the Gold Match with a European grip, which is fantastic for competition shooting as the additional friction on your offhand can be used to control muzzle rise making rapid firing a lot easier.

Every good pistol needs a solid backbone in the form of a good grip, with this 5.1’s being fantastically sturdy, despite its light weight. The grip feels incredibly satisfying to grasp thanks to its various textures, which, of course, serve the function of providing a good amount of friction, so your pistoi always stays exactly where you want it and won’t slip or falter when aiming. The left and right hand textures are a kind of mottled pattern, which contrasts well with the front and rear diamond stipled texture that complements the front of the trigger housing.

Familiar to Hi-Capa users is the safety, superior to many other pistol platforms, only this time with that sleek gold trim. Being a Hi-Capa safety, the pistol can be locked easily thanks to the enlarged fins either side, so whether you’re a righty or a lefty you can operate this sidearm with no issue. A beavertail safety complements this, which sits at the very back of the grip and unless you are squeezing the grip, the pistol cannot fire, therefore no more accidental discharges in the spawn point!

Similar to the trigger, the hammer is skeletonised, which reduces weight and adds to the sleek aesthetic of the Gold Match. It also features a low-profile design to avoid interfering with your sights as much as possible.

Let’s talk HOP-up. The HOP can be accessed by first removing the slide. The slide is removed by pulling it back and aligning it until the chamber is fully open. From this point, simply push the pin attached to the slide lock until the slide lock can be removed. With the lock removed the slide can be removed by sliding it forward and voila! The HOP is revealed from withing the slide.

Being a gear-type HOP, it is easily adjusted with your nail or similar by simply turning the gear using the handy-dandy extrusion, letting you set the backspin of your shots, which is useful for range and elevation.

The internal barrel measures 6.08mm in diameter and while not quite deemed a tightbore barrel, most people can attest to its effectiveness thanks to Tokyo Maruis impressive quality control, making sure that ever barrel is perfectly measured and perfectly polished on the inside so you can enjoy insanely speedy and accurate shots every time you pull the trigger.

Those of you looking to purchase a Hi-Capa, or pistol in general would be hard pressed to find a Hi-Capa of higher quality. Matching both style and shooting capability, form and function, the Gold Match is the perfect purchase for a myriad of users. Whether you are looking to do some competition shooting, taking people out at the skirmish site or simply just owning a sweet piece of eye-candy, the Gold Match is that rare breed of pistol that is suave and understated with a sleek style that can easily outperform more outward looking Airsoft pistols.
