Airsoft Top 10s: Top 10 Airsoft Guns featured in GTA V

GTA V Airsoft Guns

On a rainy day when there is no Airsofting fun to be had, there is nothing quite as enjoyable as settling down with your favourite video game. For many of us here,  GTA V is the perfect game if you like casual, gun-related video gaming and the option to play the game however you like, and as the game grows and expands, more and more cool guns are added.

We love the feel of the guns in GTA V, and the sounds they make, and with the addition of customisation options on the later gun releases we are thoroughly enjoying kitting out our weaponry the way we would like to in real life. GTA V may not quite have the weapon realism of games like Escape From Tarkov, but for more casual gaming GTA V does everything right.

If you have ever become attached to a video game gun and wanted the same thing in Airsoft form you are not alone, and this article spawned from the need to have our favourite GTA V guns represented on the Airsoft battlefield. Read on for our Top 10 GTA V guns which are also available as Airsoft replicas!

Heavy Revolver - Dan Wesson Revolver 8 inch

Dan Wesson Revolver

The "Heavy revolver" as it is known in the game, is first introduced in the Executives and other Criminals update for GTA V online. This design appears to be a combination of the Taurus Raging Bull, famous for its role as the big boi revolver in other video games, and the Dan Wesson CO2 revolver, either the Airsoft version or the 4.5mm pellet version.

8inch Dan Wesson Revolver

This is given away by the distance between the cylinder and hammer being slightly longer, and the grip angle being more vertical, traits which were designed into the Dan Wesson to accommodate its CO2 power source. The Dan Wesson revolvers are all big boys, even the shorter barrel lengths, so if you need a sidearm with some intimidation factor a Dan Wesson would do the trick!

Heavy Revolver MKII - Dan Wesson 715/UMAREX H8R

6Inch Dan Wesson Revolver

The  MK.II version of the Heavy Revolver adds the ability to mount a red dot sight, tactical light and muzzle brake, as well as refining some of the visual design to make the "Heavy Revolver MK.II" look more modern and advanced. The frame is the standard Raging Bull/Dan Wesson style frame but with a squared trigger guard, and the cylinder has been redesigned to look very similar to the Chiappa Rhino revolver.

Dan Wesson 715

When it comes to Airsoft equivalents of the GTA V Heavy Revolver MK.II the design lies somewhere between the ASG Dan Wesson 715 revolver and the UMAREX H8R revolver. The frame and grip are a close match with the Dan Wesson design, and the barrel appears to be somewhere between the menacing modern looks of the H8R and the sleek and powerful Dan Wesson styling.

Umarex H8 Revolver

If you want to mount accessories to your Airsoft Heavy Revolver MK.II build we recommend the Umarex H8R due to its built-in 20mm rails in all the right places, but if you are running it slick the Dan Wesson would be a better match for the overall shape of the unmodified Heavy Revolver MK.II.

Combat Shotgun Double Eagle M63 SPAS-12 Shotgun

Double Eagle M63 SPAS-12 Shotgun

The Combat shotgun was added to the game in The Cayo Perico Heist update and is one of the more real world accurate models in the game. The Combat shotgun is very close to a SPAS 12 by default, though it features a folding stock from an M870 shotgun, and a slightly shorter barrel than that offered on the standard Franchi SPAS 12.

Spas 12 Shotgun

For the Combat Shotgun look, there is no closer option than the Double Eagle M63 SPAS 12. Its mean, aggressive styling made this the movie shotgun of choice in the 1990s, and it is nice to see the SPAS 12 is still appreciated in more modern settings. The Double Eagle M63 matches the real steel SPAS-12 well, and the same is true for the GTA V Combat Shotgun. The M63 is a tri-shot shotgun, meaning it fires 3 BBs per trigger pull; providing an awesome realistic shotgun-style spread and making it very useful for dealing with fast-moving targets in CQB.

Carbine Rifle - G&G CG16 FFR

G&G CG16 FFR

The Carbine rifle has been in the game right from the start and serves as one of the staple weapons in the prologue mission in the hands of Trevor, the lovable redneck. This is one of those which makes us scratch our heads, and start spreading baseless theories about the model being based on an Airsoft rifle, due to its very flat bolt carrier which resembles an AEG bolt carrier plate more than a real AR bolt carrier.

The Carbine rifle is far from a standard M4 configuration, and sports a tubular free floated handguard, modern receiver set and ergonomic pistol grip.

G&G Carbine CG16 FFR

G&G Armament's CG16 FFR is so close to the Carbine Rifle that it is almost spooky, with the only deviation being in its stock setup which is purely fictional in the game. The CG16 FFR rocks the robust and well liked G&G Combat Machine gearbox, with a slick free-floated handguard which is near identical to the one on the Carbine Rifle.

Carbine Rifle MKII - CYMA CM.097B Platinum

CYMA CM.097B Platinum

Following the Gunrunning update, the Carbine Rifle can be upgraded to MK.II configuration, which gives the FFR style Carbine rifle a full makeover inspired by the real steel SAI Tier 1 rifle and other ultra-modern AR15 rifles. In the game the MK.II can be upgraded with different barrel options, camouflage skins and various optical sights and accessories.

The MK.II has an M-LOK handguard, reprofiled receiver and slimline stock, and can be equipped with an extended 60-round magazine and various ammunition types.

CYMA CM.097B

The CYMA CM.097B is the spitting image of the Carbine Rifle MK.II, and has the same receiver profile with gripping surfaces at the front of the magazine well, and a very similar M-LOK handguard of the same length as the in-game Carbine Rifle MK.II. The CM.097B is one of CYMA's platinum range, boasting full metal construction and the upgraded Platinum gearbox and MOSFET pre-installed, making it as much of a beast on the field as the Carbine Rifle MK.II is in the game!

As a bonus for those who like the extended mag look, the CM.097B is also compatible with the NUPROL MEGA MAG, a close replica of the 60-round magazine used with the Carbine Rifle MK.II.

Assault Rifle - Jing Gong AK47 Tactical/CYMA CM.028A AK Tactical

Jing Gong AK47 Tactical/CYMA CM.028A AK Tactical

The "Assault Rifle" is available throughout the game, and is also found in the hands of PMC and Military troops, as well as gang members in later missions. The Assault Rifle as it is known in the game is a close match with the Norinco Type 56-2, the Chinese version of the iconic AK47 rifle.

There are slight changes in the external design when compared to the Type 56-2, including the use of an AK74 style gas block, and the Russian Cyrillic fire selector markings. The Assault Rifle is equipped with a 20mm railed handguard and an upgraded ergonomic pistol grip, making it very similar in configuration to many "Tactical AK47" Airsoft AEGs.

The "Assault Rifle" bears striking resemblance to the Jing Gong AK47 Tactical, and whilst the Jing Gong is a pure Russian AK in design it has a very similar folding stock, based on the real steel Tapco AK folding stock. The handguard and pistol grip of the Jing Gong Tactical AK are a near-perfect match for the in-game model, so if you want the closest possible Airsoft AEG to the in-game Assault Rifle the JG is your best bet.

Jing Gong AK47 Tactical/CYMA CM.028A AK Tactical

The second option is the CYMA CM.028A AK47 Tactical, which is in the same configuration as the JG up front but boasts a larger battery compartment thanks to the extra space in its fixed stock. Both the JG AK47 Tactical and the CYMA CM.028A are fine choices for an "Assault Rifle" stand-in and are well known to be superbly performing and cost-effective Airsoft AK rifle replicas.

Marksman Rifle  - CYMA CM.032 M14 EBR

CYMA CM.032 M14 EBR

The Marksman rifle arrived in the game as part of the Last Team Standing DLC, and is one of the best guns to have if you have an elevated position. The Marksman rifle's design lies somewhere between the M14 EBR and the Ruger Mini-30, a 7.62x39 version of the Mini-14.

CYMA CM.032 M14 EBR

The Marksman rifle has an M4/AR15 buffer tube, though the real-life equivalent of the stock shown on the in-game model does not fit an AR buffer tube (GTA modellers, we forgive you!). If you can forgive the lack of an AK style mag, the Phantom, Jing Gong or CYMA M14 EBR AEGs would make a great stand-in for the Marksman rifle in an Airsoft skirmish, and look far better with the straight 7.62x51 style magazine, plus more realistic!

Sniper Rifle - Well MB08A Folding Stock

Well MB08A Folding Stock

Our second favourite gun retailer 😉, AmmuNation, describes this rifle as a “Standard sniper rifle. Ideal for situations that require accuracy at long range. Limitations include slow reload speed and very low rate of fire.” The Sniper rifle is introduced at the beginning of the mission entitled Nervous Ron, wherein Trevor intimidates his local AmmuNation clerk into handing over the rifle, together with a suppressor and scope for free! You won't get that at Patrol base, you have to enter one of our giveaways to get free guns from us!

Well MB08A Folding Stock

The Sniper Rifle appears to be based on the Accuracy International L96 (AW-F) folding stocked variant and is shown in-game in various colour schemes. The "Chassis" is similar looking to the L96's bigger brother the AW-50F but is scaled down to match the L96 in size. The rifle is equipped with a scope, which can be upgraded to provide variable zoom. Our closest equivalent is the Well MB-08A, the folding stocked variant of their seemingly timeless Warrior 1 Sniper rifle, sporting awesome power out of the box and impressive range!

Military Rifle - Jing Gong AU-3G AUG A3

Jing Gong AU-3G AUG A3

The "Military Rifle" first appears as part of the "The Cayo Perico Heist", and is used by El Rubio's mercenaries. The Military Rifle is a flight of fancy by the GTA V designers but appears to be largely based on the real-world Steyr AUG.

The body of the real AUG has been altered, presumably to add visual interest and make the Military Rifle look a bit more mean and aggressive, and the proportions have also been altered to make it look more front-heavy with a larger and more menacing barrel and front end.

The flat-top configuration matches the "A3" variant of the AUG rifle, adding additional rails and the ability to mount a wide variety of aftermarket optical sights.

Jing Gong AU-3G AUG A3

As an Airsoft "Military Rifle" stand-in, the Jing Gong AU-3G is as close as it gets. Naturally, the receiver of the Jing Gong AU-3G is patterned after the real AUG A3 and doesn't have the fictional details added to the Military Rifle by the GTA V design team.

The front end is a similar story, and is a close match with the GTA V gun without straying from the bounds of realism into the cartoonish proportions of the in-game weapon. The JG AU-3G sports full metal construction, a long inner barrel for superb accuracy and a compact overall form thanks to its "bullpup" configuration.

Heavy Rifle - Double Bell SCAR-H

Double Bell SCAR-H

The Heavy Rifle can first be seen in the in-game trailer for The Simian, a fictional movie involving armed Apes fighting humanity in classic GTA style. The Heavy Rifle finally made its way into the game as a part of the "The Contract" update and can be customised with a plethora of in-game attachments and upgrades, just like the real rifle it is based on.

Double Bell SCAR-H

The Heavy Rifle design appears to be based on the SCAR-H with an alternative stock, and with the barrel and gas block flipped upside down. We aren't sure whether it was licensing issues which led to this, or if the designers just thought it looks cooler this way. It does certainly look cool, as long as you don't notice that the barrel is see-through around the vents in the handguard and that the ejection port and barrel are not lined up!

Double Bell SCAR-H

If you want an Airsoft version of the Heavy Rifle your best bet would be the Double Bell SCAR-H AEG. The Double Bell SCAR-H sports full metal construction and the big boy look of the "Heavy" variant of the SCAR platform, and would make a great stand-in for the Heavy Rifle in a GTA V inspired loadout geared towards dealing with larger threats at longer ranges.

That's it! Our Top 10 favourite GTA V guns that are also available in Airsoft form. As much as the guns portrayed in GTA are largely fictional designs based on real firearms, Airsoft has clearly had an influence over some of the designs in the game and what they both have in common is that they look great, even moreso if you aren't a stitch counter and can overlook one or two errors in the in-game models. If you have a hankering to make a loadout based on that of your GTA V character you no longer have any excuses left!
