  • Shorty M4A1 - Great for CQB or outdoors
  • 20mm Quad railed handguard
  • Perfect military style starter gun!

If you are new to Airsoft and fancy starting out with an M4 AEG with an aggressive military style the Cyber Gun Colt M4A1 CQBR would be a fine choice. CQBR stands for Close Quarters Battle Rifle, giving you a hint at what this AEG does best.

Being constructed primarily from high density polymer keeps this M4 AEG light and easy to wield for skirmishers of all ability levels, and its plethora of 20mm Picatinny rails and 14mm CCW male threaded barrel make it ready for accessories straight out of the box, including red dot sights, tactical flashlights and tracer units.

To sweeten the deal, this M4A1 AEG is also fully licensed by Colt and has authentic markings on the receiver with the iconic Colt pony we all recognise sitting prominently on the magazine well amongst the other realistic trademarks. If you are looking for an AEG with a realistic look at a great entry level price, look no further!

Description

The Cyber Gun COLT M4A1 features all the classic elements that you'd expect to find on a traditional M4A1 CQBR, including a 10.5-inch threaded barrel, adjustable ghost ring iron sights and a 20mm quad railed handguard up front with a 20mm railed receiver, an ambidextrous "CQD" style sling plate and the classic M4 crane stock at the rear for a comfortable and adjustable cheek position and a bountiful battery compartment. If you are fresh to the game and are looking for something with a Milsim look which can be chopped and changed to your liking you can't ask for much better!

The tip of the outer barrel features 14mm CCW male threading, the most common barrel threading for Airsoft AEGs. This is good news and means you can mount a tracer unit or suppressor to the M4A1 CQBR without any additional adapters if you want a sneaky, special forces inspired look. The flash hider which is mounted as the rifle comes is the M4/M16A2 birdcage type which is the correct flash hider for this rifle, and also has a menacing look with its multi-port design and QD suppressor cutout to match the real thing.

Moving on to the iron sights we can find the iconic M4A1 triangular front sight post/gas block, which contains the fine front sight post. This sight post can be adjusted up and down using an M4/AR15 front sight adjustment tool, and also includes a sling point which can be paired with the CQD sling plate at the rear to allow a two-point sling to be mounted.

The rear sight can be found pre-installed onto the rifle's 20mm receiver rail and is designed to match cut down carry handle style rear sights which were popular with US Navy SEALS during the GWOT era and were regularly seen mounted to their MK18 MOD.0 CQBR rifles. The sight provides a choice of two apertures; a finer aperture for long range shooting and a wider aperture for close-quarters and low-light situations. The rear sight is also fully adjustable and can be removed from the rifle quite simply if you prefer to use a red dot sight or a bigger magnified scope.

This CQBR is appropriately equipped with a close replica of the KAC RAS handguard system which boasts 20mm Picatinny rails at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions, with KAC style rail covers pre-installed on the side rails. This provides all the rail real estate necessary to mount a wide variety of mission-essential equipment if you want to deck your CQBR out as the SEALs would. Whether you are mounting a PEQ laser unit, a tactical flashlight, a vertical foregrip or all of these at once, you can be sure there is room on this compact M4 rifle!

Adding an M203 Grenade launcher is also a possibility for this AEG, as the handguards can also be split into two parts, and the front handguard cap includes a cutout for the M203 mount. An M203 would almost definitely add some significant weight to this lightweight platform, but it is always nice to be able to equip it with some extra firepower if you feel the need.

The receiver is a classic M4/AR15 style configuration with the fire selector located on the left side of the lower receiver, just above the pistol grip, and the magazine release located on the right side of the magazine well. These controls are very well thought out and positioned to match the real M4A1 which is known for its enviable ergonomics and intuitive control locations. The fire selector is easily reached from a firing grip, and the magazine release sits just within reach of the trigger finger, allowing for a "drop free" speed reload when needed.

Along the top of the receiver, we can find a 20mm Picatinny rail which is perfect for mounting an optical sight if you want a bit more functionality from your sighting systems and a more elite look. The receiver also includes several dummy controls which aren't functional for Airsoft but are essential for realism. The dummy bolt catch is located centrally on the left side of the receiver, and the forward assist button is over on the right side of the upper receiver. Both of these controls are separate parts, avoiding the typical moulded-in controls which are a telltale sign of a replica for a more realistic look and feel.

The adjustable HOP-up unit of the Cyber Gun M4A1 is located inside the receiver and is accessible through the mock ejection port on the right side of the AEG. To access the HOP-up unit simply pull the charging handle (located at the top rear of the receiver) and the dust cover will spring open, and the mock bolt carrier will retract. Inside you will find a gear adjuster which is an older design but appreciated for the speed at which adjustments can be made on the fly.

Adjusting the HOP-up will provide extra range, and allow you to tune the flight path of your BBs, looking for the flattest trajectory possible. This also allows the Cyber Gun M4A1 to be tuned for ammo of different weights, and we recommend 0.25g BBs for this AEG to make the most of its HOP-up system.

The pistol grip is the classic M4/M16 finger ridged "A2" grip which has grip assisting checkering on both sides, allowing you to keep a firm grip on your CQBR regardless of the weather conditions. This grip can be swapped for other M4/AR15 AEG compatible motor grips if you prefer a different style, though this is for experienced users only and will require the motor height to be tuned afterwards.

At the rear of the receiver, between it and the buffer tube, we can find an ambidextrous sling plate which is patterned after the real "CQD" sling plate issued with the real MK18 MOD.0 CQBR. Alone, this plate allows for single point "hook" type slings to be attached on whichever side suits you, and can also be paired with the front sling point on the front sight to allow for a two-point sling setup.

Bringing up the rear we have a 6-position M4/AR15 AEG spec buffer tube on which the Crane battery stock is installed. This buffer tube is compatible with the majority of M4/AR15 AEG stocks on the market, but if you are swapping this out make sure you get an alternative stock with a battery compartment inside. The included Crane stock is the correct style for the CQBR as it was issued to US forces, and is still in use today on the latest MK18 Block 2 rifles.

To access the battery compartment you will need to remove the butt plate of the Crane stock by squeezing together the two tabs at the toe of the stock, after which the butt plate can be lifted free. Inside you will find a mini-Tamiya battery connector to which you mount your battery of choice. For this AEG we recommend a 9.6V 1600mAh NiMh battery in nunchuck configuration but can also accept a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo nunchuck. If you are using a LiPo just make sure you only use a LiPo charger

Crane stocks are known for the comfortable cheek weld, and this one is no exception. The sloped cheek pieces which contain your battery provide a superbly comfortable place to rest your face while you take aim, especially when compared to older generation M4 stocks!

The adjustment lever for the crane stock is located on the bottom and can be held down to extend or reduce the length of pull of the stock, making this stock setup useful for all body types, as well as users of thick body armour. The stock also includes several sling slots if you prefer a more traditional strap sling setup, and the butt plate is rubberised with grid style checkering to keep the stock tightly gripped to your shoulder, even when the rain is pouring!

The feature set of the Cyber Gun M4A1 CQBR makes it an ideal choice for those entering the sport of Airsoft who are looking for something that isn't too taxing to use proficiently, is lightweight and cost-effective while being future-proofed with compatibility with the majority of M4 aftermarket upgrades, M4 AEG magazines and external parts.

As it comes the CQBR is capable of holding its own in either the cramped confines of a CQB Airsoft site or out in the woodlands, stretching its legs. Complete with full Colt trademarks for such an attractive price, this is a sure choice for a military-oriented starter Airsoft setup!
