Bolster Armouries Drop 4 Platform Preview: ONYX SBR [Violet Edition] & ONYX Blackout Advanced M4 AEGs
Introducing Bolster Armouries Drop 4, the latest release of the ONYX Advanced M4 AEG. The original ONYX SBR is back in its updated form, known as the [Violet Edition] along with its newly spawned evil twin, the ONYX Blackout.
The ONYX SBR [Violet Edition] is the latest generation of Bolster's ONYX platform, sporting the now-established Bolster Armouries aesthetic. Based on the Krytac Barrett REC7 SBR in Tungston with a custom Cerakote finish known as "Northern Lights" applied to the barrel, buffer tube and mock bolt carrier, the [Violet Edition] is named for the custom Bolster Armouries Violet finish applied to its Gate NOVA Trigger, EON HOP-up unit, Power piston head and Protector cylinder head. This finish is unique to Bolster Armouries builds, and you won't find it anywhere else!
As is the standard set by Bolster Armouries, almost none of the Krytac internal parts remain; everything found to be lacking has been removed and replaced with the very best aftermarket upgrades from Laylax Prometheus, Warhead Industries, Maple Leaf, FPS Soltair, Gate Electronics and other big names in the high-end Airsoft aftermarket.
The Gate TITAN V2 acts as the brain of the platform with its “Expert” firmware. Adding to its box of tricks, the TITAN now communicates directly with the ESC module on the Warhead Industries CNC Black Brushless Motor, meaning the Bolster bar is raised further still when it comes to electrical efficiency and rate of fire.
Up front, the team fitted a PTS Syndicate Griffin Armament M4SD-K suppressor to allow [Violet Edition] users to switch quickly between a suppressed and unsuppressed configuration while rocking gorgeous Griffin Armament trademarks and an inimitable grid pattern fluted surface design. The old Bolster favourite, the PTS Syndicate Fortis Shift Grip is fitted; a highly adaptable M-LOK mounted grip constructed from CNC 6061-T6 aluminium with a stylish, skeletonised design. The legendary Magpul CTR Stock features at the rear, giving you a rock-solid real steel rifle stock that is practically without equal.
If the [Violet Edition] is the saint, the ONYX Blackout is the sinner, dressed to impress with a discrete, brooding aesthetic with some new real steel parts thrown into the ONYX mix. Starting with the Krytac Barret REC7 SBR, this time in Black, the Bolster team added Cerakote Cobalt to the barrel, buffer tube and mock bolt to sidestep the usual racy Bolster aesthetic while still providing some gorgeous visual interest and contrast.
As with the [Violet Edition], the Blackout is rocking the Gate NOVA trigger, EON HOP-up unit, Protector cylinder head and Power piston head with the new Bolster Armouries Custom Violet finish, a nod to its highly upgraded internals and a unique touch which is only found on Bolster Armouries custom builds.
All the biggest names, from Laylax Prometheus to Warhead Industries and FPS Softair feature inside, with the Gate TITAN V2 with its newest “Expert” firmware acting as the brain of the platform. As with the [Violet Edition], the Blackout benefits from the latest Gate update to the TITAN, allowing it to communicate more effectively with the ESC module on the Warhead Industries CNC Black Brushless Motor. This improves electrical efficiency and pushes the rate of fire up to an incredible 30 rounds per second; faster than almost every previous Bolster build and neck and neck with the OBIRE MPX PCC with its 13:1 high-speed gears.
Instead of a suppressor, the Bolster Team chose an Acetech Bifrost Tracer Unit hidden inside the EMG Strike Industries Oppressor Univeral Blast Shield for the Blackout, giving this CQBEAST a massive instinct aiming and psychological warfare advantage in CQB while keeping its realistic looks. A real steel BCM Gunfighter KAG (Kinesthetic Angled Grip) is mounted to the M-LOK handguard, a hybrid angled foregrip/handstop designed with input from the legendary Travis Haley of Haley Strategic.
At the rear, we are treated to a real steel MFT Battlelink Minimalist Stock, offering several sling mounting options, a low profile adjustment lever kept well clear of snags and a curved rubber butt plate designed to permit faster target presentation, even when wearing body armour or a plate carrier.
